life - traveling waters

this is a rerecording of the first song I wrote for life in early 2017 (if you don't count malãë which was revisited from 2015). for many years I had the idea of rerecording this song because when I was teaching my band at the time in 2018 and I realized that I liked how the song sounded much better in this faster tempo and higher tuning. it wouldn't be until last week that I actually got around to doing it finally. since this song was already "written", I was able to record the drums first and not have to use a click track, since I hugely prefer music that isn't snapped to a grid, especially when it's punk oriented. I recorded the drums so fast tand chaotically hat I could barely even keep up with myself when I recorded the guitars and everything else, but I love how chaotic it sounds. this made me want the recording to be even more lofi and chaotic. I love music that's messy like that. life demo 5 is done so I'm going to release it on bandcamp immediately, also the version of 17 memory has my girlfriend singing with me at the very end.

rerecording old songs is fun and I feel like I'm going to do this more often, and even rerecord this song another time, maybe with different production

the lyrics are about abstract feelings and thoughts from all the way back then, nearly 5 years ago now since I made this song in march of 2017 i think. I remembered really specific and particular memories and feelings from when I was a kid in certain spaces, and feeling like I wanted to somehow take that essence and expand it in lifejourneys and make moments like that something prominent in my everyday life. it's kind of hard to explain. I was also fascinated with the geography of tropical asia in that particular moment for some reason, maybe having to do with some computer game I was playing in my elementary school library that I remembered
