Breaking Bad S5 E3

The show is doing a great job showing us the transition of protagonist to full villain without shoving it in our faces. It's clear but subtle that Walt has not only gone down the dark path, but he's probably been a lot further along it and for a lot longer than we've realized.

I'd still pick Mike in a head to head though. Wonder if we'll get to see that.

I think EGO is definitely one of the biggest themes of the show. It's really skillful what they've done here story-wise too, because I find myself still assuming I know what Walt is thinking or doing, and then I realize that NO, I don't. He's completely unpredictable because he does things that only make sense to him, because to him he's the center of the universe.

I love that the show is making clear that Walt has become an evil mofo. I mean, we saw at the end of last season how ruthless Walt was prepared to be, but now we are seeing the seeds of his destruction. I don't think he is even aware of his greatest weakness, his massively overdeveloped ego. Preparing groundwork to overthrow Mike is just dumb. I agree that he is trying to separate Jesse form Andrea and Brock. I also think he is prepared to murder them both if he thinks they even might become a threat. Again, I really don't think he gets how stupid this would be and how badly it could backfire. Skyler is coming to realise just how deep of a hole she is in now, and is feeling the inevitability of consequences hovering over her. No matter brilliant Walt's tactics are, they are deployed in the service of boneheaded strategies.
