I saw a stunning picture of @einamadisonx (on instagram) I needed to recreate (almost recreate. I changed and added things just because I could and I wanted it not to be a pool picture). It was just a wow picture for me.
That rarely happens. The lighting here was so right and accentuated all the curves and lines so well.
I do use photos as reference for likeness, if I use them at all, but I rarely use them this literal. I had to though. Look at Venus Rising 😊

I did a truly literal painting of a photo a year or two ago, of a model I followed for her excellent work, but I didn't post it anywhere. It was just too literal, a painted copy really, and posting it would not be right. I sent it to her in hi-res because I couldn't use it myself. I don't know if she did.
