Multicraft is nerfed, but is it enough?
Added 2024-11-07 22:39:01 +0000 UTCBlizzard has just announced that patch 11.0.7 will bring some significant changes to crafting stats. Blizzard has finally after one whole expansion realized that multicraft is better than any other stat and are making changes.
Multicraft nerfed, resourcefulness buffed
As a result Blizzard are nerfing multicraft and all multicraft related nodes in the profession tree. Mutlciraft will now yield 30% less items when it crits, and resourcefulness will now return 50% more than it does currently when it crits. The extra bonus to multicraft amount for tailors and scribes is also getting reduced by a further 50% going from +100% to +50 % total extra items.
Market changes
Cooldown cloth and inscription reagents are now likely to be a little more expensive compared to just before 11.0.7, but we could also see the price stay steady. Enchants should now be a little cheaper as the increased resourcefulness just makes them cheaper with no downside. In general we will see slightly less rank3s craft as there will be fewer multicraft procs across the board for concentration crafters, but they will be slightly cheaper on average.
Crafting orders galore
This change is very significant for players focusing on crafting orders. With more resourcefulness the average value of completing a crafting order will be up with no real downside.
How does the math look
As far as I can tell the change does not actually make the stats equal in value. Obviously I could be misunderstanding how they apply the reduction, but in a vacuum multicraft is still more than twice as good as resourcefulness for reducing your average crafting cost. Assuming the DF values hold true then multicraft will now give an extra 1 item on average when procing in stead of 1.5 and resourcefulness will now yield a return of 45% of a material when it procs. Multicraft % will now be the number of extra items you can expect to see, whereas for resourculness you will get a reduction cost equal to roughly 45% of your resourcefulness percentage. If you have nodes that buff either then the math will change, but 1 percent of multicraft is still about twice as good as resourcefulness. This is still a lot closer than now where multicraft is more than 7 times more valuable than resourcefulness.
Nothing changes but the numbers
Ultimately this does not meaningfully change your choices for stats as multicraft is still the best for anything that can multicraft. It will change the relative profits of crafts and prices however, but the market usually renormalizes fairly quickly.
