2023-06-03 15:53:08 +0000 UTCTheory: The string isn't actually "fate" per se, it just seeks to find the most compatible people possible in one's vicinity. When two people become "tied" it's not necessarily "destiny" that they be together, but more that their personalities have such strong compatibility that the string decides "Yep this'll almost certainly work". This is why Rowan and Matt's string disappeared when they decided to try and make things work - the string believed that they DIDN'T have the most compatible personalities, but because Rowan and Matt decided to make it work, the string changed its mind. They did something that the string wasn't "expecting" and thus it decided in that moment that this was sufficient to satisfy whatever criteria it goes through in deciding tied partners and broke without them ever being actually tied. This also means that the decision is ultimately up to the tied partners, and although the string prompts the interaction, it doesn't "force" people into anything. It just so happens the string is REALLY good at its job, most of the time.
