i relate to octavia a lot. when i was her age i was this angsty teen who hated my dad (for valid reasons) but i never let myself have good memories with him. now that im older i know that despite his flaws, my dad didn’t deserve the hatred i had for him. while stolas is objectively a better person than my dad, i understand where she’s coming from and i believe full heartedly that she’ll see his perspective once she’s sorted out her feelings. i know she’ll come around one day

Octavia's song "I Will Be Okay" is a mirror image to Stolas' song in LooLoo Land "You Will Be Okay" that he sings to her. Octavia doesn't want to be okay without him, she wants to be not without him. It becomes a fulfillment where she says she will be okay without him, which is not what she wanted. It is a song about being abandoned. The most important thing you can be as a parent is there and Stolas isn't. Musically the songs are different until the chorus. They're mapped over the same set of chords as though we are seeing the same scene from another point of view. They both end with very tender moments. The line that Octavia sings "and my tears won't fall upon your shoulder, I'll just get older and you'll only know my name" is pretty profound when you think how typically names to us are a sign of familiarity or intimacy but when the relationship runs deeper than community like family or someone you're intimate with, a name is a demotion, a sign of being unfamiliar with you, that you are now just an acquaintance and the idea that Stolas as a father is no longer dad but Stolas.

Eventually the position was supposed to pass to her once she was ready, although I don't really know how that works when they're immortal, so I guess maybe he just gets to have a really long retirement? 2024-12-22 09:54:26 +0000 UTCThey announced the months for the episode releases back in April! But there hadn't been an episode since October at that point. Viv says there'll be a long wait till season 3, but that's cuz it'll be longer (15 episodes) and come out on a regular release schedule (vs season 2 which took 2 1/2 years to release 12 episodes). There pulls be 50 episodes total between 4 seasons and this is only episode 20, so we're not even halfway thru! But animation takes time, and I know that a lot of S3 is recorded already but they were still writing the S3 finale back in October. Via's song was written around the same time Loo Loo Land came out (Dec 2020) We WILL be getting shorts during the hiatus, though! And hopefully some announcements at LVLUP Expo in April :)
