I admit I wasn't expecting Potts to end up with Stark. I guess she accepts him the way he is and she knows better than anyone his real interests. I only hope he will appreciate her.

You're great at picking up the clues and keeping up with the story, but one thing you missed : Tony didn't "discover" the new element. He even corrected himself at one point to say "re-discover". His father discovered the element, presumably after a lot of hard work, but (per his dialogue in the film Tony watched) didn't have the technology to make use of his discovery. Tony took the info hidden by his father in the Expo map to "re-discover" the info and then used his modern technology to actually synthesize it.
