Angel - 1x10 "Parting Gifts" FULL REACTION

1) I think someone assumed they were going to, but before making that statement, they should have reviewed the start of the episode on Hulu. It was kind of sad Liam not seeing Doyle in the credits. 2) Up until we finally see Wesley, I thought Barney was going to be Doyle’s replacement. What a smart decision they made bringing someone else in from the Buffyverse. Caught me totally by surprise.

*sigh* Once again somebody spoils by telling Liam to not watch the opening credits. Is it really so hard to understand that making such statements affects the viewer's expectations for the episode? Best part is... in this case it was way more spoilerific than if Liam had just watched the credits because they. Have. Not. Changed. >:/

One thing to note is that despite Wesley's incompetence being played for laughs in this episode, Barney's description of the person hunting him at the top of the episode hints that Wesley IS good at his job...at least some of the time lol. Seeing him wound the Kungai demon with a crossbow and parry some punches at the auction was more than we saw of him in all of Buffy S3.

Second_Strike

I quite like this episode, but it is a touch too tonally jarring. Like the episode after Jenny Calendar died was a scary one, which I thought was a good move because not doing a lighter one correctly would come off disrespectful, and we couldn't really take much more emotional turmoil after Passion. What I like about the Barney buildup is that it allowed us to see Cordelia's grief in a way that isn't just talking to Angel, who isn't the best at communicating. Cordelia is blunt, but not necessarily good at prolonged vulnerability either (leaving for her audition right after she told Angel she wasn't going to let him isolate himself, for example). Having Barney be there as a sort of therapist I think was a helpful framing device.

Also Wesley shouting 'And them I'm going to take that inch' is one of the most awesome pieces or randomness in the Buffyverse. Like, Wesley, LOLWUT?!

Claire Eyles

Wesley was such a perfect choice to transition from the absence of Doyle.

I could watch that moment on repeat when Angel casually knocks the crossbow from Wesley. Wesley sheepishly says, "Right," and David Boreanaz can be seen breaking right when they cut away.

What's a rogue demon? -Best Line.

David Boyd

One of my favorite S1 moments, and one of my favorite Whedon themes: the constructed family, the family we choose, especially beforehand with what sounds like a tin whistle playing a plaintive tune similar to the Titanic theme.

Rachael

I've sooooo been looking forward to this one! Like, since way back when you said you'd be watching Angel. 😅 Also: 11 million points for wholesomeness, Liam calling Cordelia sweetheart, I knew this day would come. 😉❤

Arianne Kay

Cordelia Chase is so goddamn underrated. I just love her so much

Ritchie

Oh sweetheart when referring to Cordelia. How times have changed.

Sherlyn

I liked Wesley in Buffy but just like Angel and Cordelia, I think he's much better placed here. I love the scene at the end where he finally gets invited to have breakfast with them. It's so sweet. Just shows how lost he's feeling, bless him.

Donna

What's a rogue demon?

peggin

I've been waiting for this, ahhh it's gonna be so good! 😂

Jenn Rose

Wes fits well (from this episode) because he feels--like Angel, like Cordelia, like Doyle)--like he has huge failures to atone for. If there's a theme in Angel, that's it.

FernWithy

surprise! a rouge demon hunter appears!

Elisa H.

Dropping everything -- ahem, I mean, taking a well-earned break from my work -- to watch right now.

Rachael

So excited! Can't wait to see your response to the rogue demon hunter!
