Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Season 3 Review

On Article 13. Well, right now looks like we’re gonna crash out without a deal and the whole economy and the NHS will collapse - but hey! Silver lining! We still get to see your reactions, cos no Article 13 for us. LOL Re. Giles’ books. His job got blown up, but not his books. If you go back and watch carefully, the scene where the Snake Mayor is blown up - the library shelves behind the semtex are empty. Whew! Relief! :) Since Snyder really did kinda have to go - What an ending tho! Iconic! MUCH better than just going into future seasons with him alive, but just not there cos they’ve finished high school. Despite my comments on Graduation Day Pt2 that I find his death humorous because he’s such an ass. He is a very entertaining ass - I do love Armin Shimmermann’s portrayal of him. I do love his character - a character that you love to hate. I LOVE that you gave Spike a section despite only being in one episode. :D He does kinda make a big impact - and entrance, always knocking down that Sunnydale sign. :) I really like that you gave time to Mr Trick, I was hoping you would. Yup, fantastic performance, and unfortunately wasted character. You left Faith til last! I love Faith, and Eliza too. I think there was a real lack of awareness from the Scoobies on how much they were excluding her - or at least not fully welcoming her into the gang. And from Giles a real failing in duty of care, which surely should have been his right from when she arrived until Wesley came. Ooh! You didn’t talk about Wesley. Also, I feel weird that my only comment on Giles is a criticism! I love Giles. 7 THEMES !! Ah, a fellow over thinker. I love it. The Dark Reflections is a particularly good one. The Isolation one is very well observed - I’ve always noticed all of these things, but never as a theme. Interesting predictions. Wow, that was great!

Friday’s disappeared post: Great review Liam. Spot on Dru impression there! That was pretty great. :) “ I mean, I shouldn’t really say bless her really, she’s kinda sadistic. … So’s Spike, and I love him, unconditionally.” Yay! All the love for the sadistic characters :D You did pretty well with your season 3 predictions I think. Characters: I love all your commentary on Buffy this season, and on SMG ! xx I really like this comment: “Sometimes she can just absolutely convince you […] that she is this grown up woman, this badass who can take on the world, but in a second you are reminded that she is just a young girl.” Xander: “The way he treated Cordelia after the break up. He’s flawed, but you can be a flawed character and not be a dick.” VERY much this! And I completely agree with you on the moments we root for him, or have warm feelings for him, like the Zeppo or paying for Cordy’s prom dress. I have big feelings about Xander having to sleep outside due to family arguing. Willow: “Her relationship with Oz is like the best thing that’s ever happened to me.” Awww!! On her developing magic, I just LOVE the moment she stakes a vampire with a pencil. :D Yup, pretty perfect. And so was her stealing those pages from the Books of Ascension, even though it meant she didn’t escape. You know what else was perfect? Her little smile and wave to Oz in the Bronze when she is impersonating Vampire Willow. :D Ah dammit, I’ve changed my mind back to my usual 3 favourites for season 3 - Doppelgandland takes back it’s normal place, I was just feeling a lot of love for Graduation Day when I replied to your question. ( Still do, only 3 for this season is such a toughy!). [P.S - I wrote this as I watched the vid - so before I knew it was the winner of the poll !Lovers Walk, The Wish & Doppelgandland are always my top 3, but I had a lot of love for other eps on this re-watch!]

I left a big long comment on here about 31 hours ago - Friday evening. It's bloody disappeared again! I looked into this ( read - I googled it) and it seems that Patreon sees long posts as spam, some of the time at least , or multiple posts as spam. Very annoying - how can people have a conversation then? So gonna try and post it again below in two parts. But then that's multiple! So it might disappear again. :'(

Watched the first 40 minutes or so over breakfast before I head to work. Much nodding in agreement so far. Minor point: when you said you assume all the books got blown up, unless they moved them - yes they did! I missed this when I watched it for the first time too, but cast your mind back to that Wes/Cordelia kiss (yes, I know, sorry!). What were they doing during the dialogue? Packing books into crates. Also, and this one I only spotted watching your reaction, in Buffy and Angel's final talk in Gile's office, in the distance there is a now empty bookshelf. I for one was glad that the Scooby gang was better than the book-burning mob in Gingerbread.
