I think it's supposed to feel kind of "why are they doing this" because the whole baby thing makes no sense to the show (at least it seems that way ...) but like introducing Dawn into Buffy, Joss has reasons. Those reason are obscure and Whedonesque. We could not take the loss of Doyle, but welcomed the addition of Wesley, Kate left kind of barely OK, Merle got slaughtered, Darla and Drusilla got burned up, then Darla dusted in Angels arms. More than a few Wolfram & Hart baddies have lost their heads, or hands. The Angel/Cordie romance is simmering on low, but probably can only get hot and boil over soon enough when they are bonded over Conner, or maybe Fred's momma instincts will emerge. Even Lorne might make a great Goddemon to the cute little bag of blood and bones.

You look terrific today, not that you don't every video...you look great with no makeup and wet hair despite what you say. Yes this is a girl complementing by the way, and yes I'm a lesbian but am totally platonically saying so. Only reason I'm not otherwise is cuz you're straight and not my type personally in that way, but could totally see you as a friend cuz you pretty awesome. Sorry that was too much lol.

Be careful to avoid any spoilers about the new Buffy show coming out until you've watched these two shows. I'm sure you know, but just a reminder as you're my favorite Buffy/Angel reactor and I'd hate for you to spoil anything.

To answer your question; no one talks about this episode. It's just a middle of the road episode that isn't awful nor great.

Lateral move, from an evil law firm to an evil insurance corp.

Rio Bravo is a western from the 1950's and Assault on Precinct 13 is a police action thriller from the 1970's, but they both center on the same situation: a small besieged group who have to fight off a large scary force against seemingly impossible odds.

I do feel that Angel's baby switcheroo plan is a bit meta. For the entire sequence you can see that he is just carrying the blue blanket in a bundle and relies on the audience going "its tv, sometimes you have to shoot a scene without the baby on set" to not connect the dots of what is actually being shown.

I agree that this is a transitional episode, but I think I liked it a bit more than you did. Maybe it's because it's better on re-watch: Once you know what's happening, you can pick up on all the things with Lorne that show he's putting it all together. When he complains about the electronic hum that nobody else can hear, that's when he figures out that there's surveillance equipment in the hotel. You can actually see him slip Angel the note if you know what to look for. So having that info makes it all jazz a little bit more. Still not the best episode of the series, but it works. There's a very persistent rumor that Justine, the woman Holtz recruits, was originally supposed to be Kate Lockley. Both are blonde-haired women who lost a family member to vampires and have been consumed by revenge. When Elisabeth Röhm didn't come back, they just changed it to a new character. It's certainly possible that that was the original plan, but despite some fans assertions it's never been confirmed so it's just a theory.

Idk how others feel about this episode but I really enjoyed it tbh.

I forgot how badass the bit when Angel slashes a cut on Linwood’s face was. It was a very much a statement of “you’re only alive because I’ve chose not to kill you”

The files and records lady is Stephanie Courtney, aka Flo from the Progressive ads.

Connor is an Irish name that comes from the Gaelic name Conchobhar, meaning "justice", "master of hounds", or "lover of wolves". I don't love or hate this episode - as you said it's a very transitional episode that's necessary, but not necessarily the most fun or interesting. It does have a couple of standout scenes though - Angel calming Connor with his vampire face is weirdly touching; I like the conversation between Cordy and Angel about Connor's needs; and the ending is a very heartwarming moment when the Fang Gang gather as a found family. I think part of your frustration may come from the fact that we're kept out of the loop of the plan until almost the very end, so we're annoyed with Angel until we learn the truth. Next episode is a banger though :)

I'm loving the consistent uploads! Regarding W&H's game plan, we know they don't want Angel dead because he plays a "pivotal role in the apocalypse" and Lilah was concerned about killing the baby before they had the chance to dissect him and figure out what role the baby will play. Beyond that though, I think their plan is meant to be left a mystery. I enjoy this episode for the metaphor of feeling like it's you against the world when you have a kid, but the execution is a bit underwhelming. I wasn't expecting the chase scene from the Blues Brothers, but it did feel like there was more room to work with.

We get a few references to Angel's Irish heritage this episode, his real name, the lullaby he sings to the baby, Notre Dame college is known for its sports team The Fighting Irish, all leading up to naming the baby Connor which is a very Irish name. The episode does feel like a bit of a slog at times but I enjoy it for the payoff, the formation of Connor's entire "family" at the end, not to mention telling off Linwood lol
