I really enjoyed this. There's some anime tropes and such that seem obvious to me, but it's always interesting to see other people's reaction and interpretation to them. Btw, in Japanese media, "dog" is often used as a shorthand for a gofer or someone who does anything their boss/superior says to do (either voluntarily or less voluntarily). For example, in Fullmetal Alchemist, State Alchemists are often referred to as "dogs of the military", because they have to obey orders.
