Body swapping episodes are a dime a dozen trope in many series, lol, especially in soap operas and The Twilight Zone. The original Freaky Friday (1976) was probably the biggest notable origin of the body swapping idea in films, which got the idea from a novel, Vice Versa, written in 1882. They are designed to communicate "living in someone else's shoes", "you never know what someone else is going through" tropes, developing empathic ideas to the younger or more close-minded members of the audiences since many younger viewers attach themselves to and view themselves as these very characters. Since creators know how influential a show can be to younger viewers, they try to teach lessons on character growth to help younger viewers get a sense of growth and empathy as well. HOWEVER, lol, they have another secret purpose in Hollywood. They exist to showcase the actor's abilities of range, especially in cases where you have actor's type-casted or doing a character for a long period of time; so much so, that audience members have difficulty seeing them in any other role OR seeing anyone else play their role. Its sort of meant to help the actor's career reels (also to help reduce the para-social issues with stalkers/zealot fans in general that get too obsessed with a character and have difficulty separating the actor from the role). In the case of Teen Titans, lol, it is also to showcase the voice actor's abilities to adjust their acting in their voice control and tones. That's also why I love the show I, Zombie. Because of the premise of the show, the main actor gets to play a new personality in every episode. Its fun, lol.
