He hummed in his throat to acknowledge her, but didn’t take his eyes off the road.
“Will you ever tell me what you do?”
“You know what I do.”
“I know what you want me to know, which is what the rest of the world knows, but we both know that’s not what I’m talking about.”
His fingers dug into her thigh for a moment before he seemed to realize what he was doing and retracted his hand from beneath her dress and rested it on the console instead.
“What I do will never touch you. I promise.”
“How can you promise that?”
He stopped at a light and glanced at her, his expression cold and implacable. “I don’t make mistakes.”

Ok so maybe we all just speculated a bit too much. Maximus just found a thread and pulled at it for some illegal stuff Roth did to blackmail him. Probably wasn’t related to his childhood, mother or father🤡
