Jasmine impulsively decides to drop in at Roth's office and almost instantly begins to regret it...

Mo took her arm and ushered the men aside so she could get off the elevator. As the doors began to close, she heard someone say, “Isn’t she a Hennessy?”

“The youngest,” someone answered.

“She’s with him again?”

“Announcement was in the papers a couple of weeks ago.”

“Convenient how he shows up after Maximus dies…”

The doors closed, stopping her from hearing the rest of the conversation. She felt Mo and Johan’s sidelong glances, but she kept her expression contained as she strode into a familiar reception area, where Sarai was already speaking to two women standing behind a white desk. The wall behind the receptionists was artfully staged with beautiful flower arrangements like a hotel lobby.

Sarai turned to her with a big smile. “This is Jasmine, Mr. Roth’s wife.”

Both receptionists gave her polite smiles, but their eyes moved over her outfit and she realized she didn’t have on a lick of makeup and her eyes were probably puffy from reading Ballad of Deception and her recent freakout in the car.

“She came by to pay him a visit,” Sarai continued. “Is his two o’clock still running over?”
