“Don’t make promises you can’t keep.”
Added 2023-08-31 16:00:07 +0000 UTC“You’re as careful and methodical as my father,” she mused. “You say he stumbled across your secret by chance. You’re not one to leave evidence, so what was on that disc?”
His body was rigid with tension. She didn’t let that stop her from reaching out to stroke that intimidating face that made her weak with desire and terror.
“You’re privy to everyone’s darkest secrets,” she murmured. “After what my father did to you, you don’t trust anyone and make sure you know more about them than they will ever know about you. Does anyone know the real you, Roth?” She ran her hand down the side of his neck before splaying her hand over his heart. “Will you ever tell me what you did?”
Unfathomable black eyes moved over her face, taking in every flicker of emotion she tried to hide.
“When I can trust that you won’t use it against me, I’ll tell you.”
Her mouth went dry. “I…” she began, but he shook his head.
“Don’t make promises you can’t keep,” he said, throwing her line from the night before back at her. “You wouldn’t hesitate to use it against me. I don’t blame you, but after all I’ve done to bring us here, I’m not going to give you the weapon that’s kept me in prison for four years.”

So the question is, do you think he'll confide in her OR will she stumble across his secret on her own?

Prison?! Did he mean it in the metaphorical sense?

I can see him dropping hints like in the earlier books as part of him learning to trust and open up to her but I feel like Jasmine has to be the one who finds out the full details and confront him about it. Hopefully by then they'll be in a better place and Jasmine can prove him wrong (re: the Lyle keeping secrets scene you posted earlier)
