She goggled at him as he struggled to name one single activity that didn’t involve work. “You’re hopeless.”
He scowled. “What do other couples do besides fuck?”
She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “It just goes to show we never had a real relationship. It’s not going to work. I’m not the same naive girl who accepted scraps and you’re used to getting your way in everything.”
“Who said I was going to give you scraps? Tell me what you want and I’ll give it to you.”
Her heart gave a painful lurch. He was talking about money. What she wanted was free and something she wasn’t sure he was capable of.

2024-01-14 13:55:02 +0000 UTCI would also think "I want freedom" but Idk if that's book 1 or 2 Jasmine reaction, seeing as how this reads to me like they are at a different place in their relationship where they are articulating their wants and needs more concretely. But the last sentence made me think of the Portugal scenes in the last book - Jasmine recalling how carefree she felt, and remembering how she marveled at Roth's behaviour, etc.
