The tip is a server’s income & they’re taxed on it, non-service staff aren’t taxed on tips they receive. I worked restaurant for 10yrs at pretty much everything but line cook & bartender.

One plus about restaurant culture is not having to claim all the tips on our taxes, so its more money in our pocket. If make more than my chefs, that's not my business, speak to the manager.
