Retronauts Episode 256: Link's Awakening Remake

Over two years ago, we sat down to gush about The Legend of Zelda's underappreciated Game Boy installment, Link's Awakening. And once again, time has made fools of us all, as the Switch remake of this classic game stands as one of Nintendo's biggest fall titles—so it's safe to say Link's Awakening is FULLY appreciated at this point. But does Grezzo's very literal remake improve on the original experience? On this episode, join Bob Mackey, USgamer's Kat Bailey, and Henry Gilbert as the crew explores this refurbished take on Link's strangest adventure.

Yes Bob you reviewed Triforce Heroes. I then bought it from you and barely played it before trading it away lol.

This was a great podcast btw

I disagree with Kat about the aesthetics of this game. This remake feels like a natural extension from the Gameboy game and it's style, not to mention that the photos in the camera shop has the same chibiness of the remake. I think the cutesy toy world that real anime Link dreams up juxtaposes nicely against the more somber notes of the game, like bitter chocolate covered in a sugary coating.

I completely agree and am happy that they kept the original localization and didn't try to expand the text, but I do wish they would have called Mamu Wart instead of keeping his Japanese name. I miss that guy and want him back in a Mario game some day.
