Which MC do you enjoy playing as the most?

This is the third time I'm doing this poll, but I want to know your opinion and see if it has changed after 11 chapters of the story. An, by the way, the last iteration of Chapter 11 has just been released, so check it out here!
While Lena's side of the story touches on many of the themes and plotlines that made GGGB interesting to players, I wanted to add Ian's perspective to tackle scenarios and dynamics that felt really interesting to me, like his relationships with the female cast and his male friends. Lena also has a more defined personality than Ashley had, and I've tried to give the players more agency on how she reacts to events and the paths she wants to pursue.
All in all, I try to make both point sof view interesting and enjoyable to play, but do you have a favorite? Let me know!

I usually don't like playing for male character in game (coz i am female and relate more to females) but gave the game a go because i loved Good Girl Gone Bad, and because this game let me play for female character too. But later, playing this game, I realized that I enjoy playing as Ian as well! Sometimes even more than playing for Lena.

What you are creating is some kind of insane masterpiece. But—I'm also just trying to have a good time over here and now I keep hitting myself in the feels. GGGB was more enjoyable overall, 'cause I could just think about things in a one-sided way and have a blast slutting it up. This game though, this game packs a punch. You're doing a great job. Excellent vision. I do hope the next game is a little more lighthearted! 😅

In most other games, every girl is just the simple "You wanna do her"-decision away waiting for you. But here, you have to play carefully in order not to close doors you want to keep open.

Another chapter, another girl, another scene. Even though I don't like to play as Ian that much, I really apprechiate him. I like that he is not "ridicioulsy hung", that he has his struggles and that he is not the super charming "I get them all"-guy. This way, getting him together with Cindy feels like being super lucky and not like "mission accomplished". The thing that Ian is lacking (as well as most other male VN-MC) is the big change of perspective for me. I like to experience something I am not in real life. Feeling like a female is more interesting than being an average-nice guy :D .

2023-07-26 18:54:34 +0000 UTCBoth the characters are fantastic and I find myself always enjoying when it switches to catch up on what the other is up to. I definitely have a real soft spot for Lena, but Ian really grew on me too, especially as I was able to try different routes and options.

2023-07-25 18:18:42 +0000 UTCHmm, IIRC I had no serious difficulty having Ian date both Lena and Allison at the same time, when I made the main couple agree to an open/fwb relationship and they are having sexy fun with all the other available LI options on the side. I cannot be entirely sure it is 100% canon since I like messing with variables a bit to unlock otherwise incompatible sex scenes and paths if it is not a big deal in script terms. I concede that keeping the Lena and Holly paths open simultaneously seemed such a hassle in hacking terms that I did not really try.

2023-07-24 16:40:02 +0000 UTCI put down both, because I enjoy both for different reasons. I like female protagonists in games, especially these sort of erotic vn where there are very few such games. (And most of the ones with female protagonists are very short, and in many cases aimed at male players.) I also like that Ian is somewhat more believable than a lot of male protagonists. Not for the physical attributes (I have no problem with ridiculously hung protagonists, YMMV) but more for his intelligence. A lot of male protagonists you get are incredibly dim-witted, I guess so the player can feel smart when you can figure out what is going on around them when they can't? I don't know. I just like that Ian has more than a proto-brain attached to his neck.

I like to play both, but Ian could stand to have a bit more freedom to match Lena.

2023-07-23 19:49:56 +0000 UTCPoor Ian being underappreciated - personally I like the contrast between playing Ian one way and Lena another, or mixing it up to see how their interactions change. One of the coolest things about GGGB was how many new scenarios or endings I found myself discovering despite repeated playthroughs and while I'm not sure if we're there yet, having two protagonists could open up an insane number of possibilities.

There’s nothing wrong with liking what you like, but I do think some people undervalue what Eva Kiss is doing with Ian. I understand that there is a dearth of compelling female protagonists in this genre, but the men don’t fare much better either. Most AVNs out there feature ridiculously hung uber-Chads or sex pests that sleep-walk their way through mountains of T&A. Ian feels like a real character and (perhaps more importantly) the women he interacts with feel like much more than just female shaped sex toys or prizes. They have agency and character of their own, and I think that really enriches the story. ORS would simply not be the quality of game it is without his storyline in my opinion.

I have never felt comfortable playing as male characters, save a very select few. If the female is available, I play that way, even sadly to the detriment of skipping a lot of games that only allow a male character.

DIK/Chick, Normal/Corrupt, Wholesome/Deviant...It is likely true for many people that the more they judge and act in one way, the more their personality is locked into that type of character or moral compass. It's certainly not normal for everyone, and I don't really like being given less choices on how to act/respond in the game. The author creates the character, and can say that the character is going to train him-herself to act and react in certain ways consistently, which is certainly the author's privelege, but if it's an important part of the game, whatever "choice" the player has for an action, reaction etcetera is really not much of a choice, and isn't going to matter much if any. This is one of the best AVNs extant, and I really like playing as both MCs. That changes depending on what's happening at some points. I dread having to decide what Ian should do at this juncture, I hate now having locked Lena into this kind of situation...that sort of thing. But, hey, that sounds sort of like RL, doesn't it? Double-crossing snakes tend to lose friends because you can't really trust someone who can be nice to you one day, then another talk smack behind your back. It would be interesting if, say, Holly called out Lena for treating Louise or Stan badly because I doubt she likes people having double standards for people (like Minerva with Ian). But in ORS Lena never gets negative consequences for her mean / deceitful actions with exception of Louise or Stan losing their patience. But the people she's nice to, never call Lena out for treating other people differently or ask why she's so mean to them.

I think ORS is a lot less one dimensional than GGGB because of that. Being indifferent to some people's emotions does not exclude you from being caring towards other people's emotions.

Im mostly sticking to my first play through until the game is finished or at a point where i feel like it is close because i don't want to loose track of my original story. But i find you statement about Lenas Character very interesting because she feels like a well rounded character to me. Im not sure if i miss the morality system because i enjoy the fact that i can be cold to characters i don't like (like Louise) while being nice to characters like Stan without the game penalizing me for it. The Morality system sometimes felt like driving on auto pilot because you were locked out of being nice/bad at certain points. The only thing i dislike about the Attribute system is the fact that i sometimes feel like i don't have much control over how they develop and it kinda feels like you always end up somewhat average. I think there could have been more possibilities to enforce the development of certain trends. I basically miss sceens like ones from GGGB where you had to decide if you wanted to study, or post lewd selfies on Instagram. (But i haven't explored the game much. Maybe i missed them.)

I don't know how Lena and Louise ever became friends but i really dislike her. She is also constantly harassing Stan without reason (atleast in most chapters). And she never tags along with Lena. There are so many events where Louise could spend time with Lena but she is only complaining about Lena not sacrificing her free time.

I always try to put myself in the characters perspective and role play as them (to an extend). And i find it really fun to figure out how i would react to some of the situations Lena finds herself in. They challenge me. But its harder for me to decide what Ian does because i either just play myself and go for the safe routes (like i would do in real life) or i invent a personality for him. I would love to see Lena take a more active Role with Characters like Stan or Holly where she has the confidence to "lead" them in to whatever direction she likes. And i would love to see Ian in a situation where he gets seduced/played by someone like Ivy or where he gets dared to do something risky when partying with the boys (or Jeremy). There is also the possibility for Seymour to try and control Ian.

2023-07-23 12:57:21 +0000 UTCWhile I definitely like playing as both, I think after Chapter 7 I started to enjoy Ian's part more simply because it feels more unique and his character arc seems more natural while Lena's part can at times feel too similar to what has already been seen in GGGB without having what made GGGB special. To me, what made GGGB fun in the first place was the morality system that somewhat kept our Ashley in check if we were either too Good or gone too Bad. You couldn't do some bad things if you didn't have enough Bad points and vice versa. While in ORS the Lust plays a similar role, it's only related to sexual actions but your overall morality is not tracked in any way. There's no sense of subtle character shift in one direction or another because there's no way to track Lena's corruption (or regression, if she was wild in the past) even though her story has such a big focus on it. And so, if you pick some of the bad actions (like cheating or stealing from the cafe or treating Louise like her emotions don't matter), it doesn't really impact Lena's overall personality so her behavior can sometimes feel inconsistent when she's too nice to specific characters (Holly, sometimes Ian) while being bad to others (Louise especially) or randomly displays guilty conscience for little things despite having done much worse actions or blames other characters for what she herself is doing or easily betrays those she considers friends, etc. The little things like that can make her parts not enjoyable for me unless I play Lena a very specific way. She can just become unlikeable but very few of the other characters can notice that and call her out. You can predict and understand Ivy's actions (and ironically she ends up calling out Lena's hypocrisy most of the time), but Lena's are always a surprise regardless of the way you play her. Ian can also have occasional moments like this, but his writing for the most part is much more subtle so even if he does something morally questionable or very bold, it has clear buildup to it (or it appears this way at least). Even if he ends up contradicting himself, I can understand Ian's motivation in most of his actions while it's hard to relate to Lena when her personality can be so different within the same playthrough. With each chapter I feel like I know more of Ian, and less of Lena.

Ian's route is focused on friendship and relationships and the only difficult choices he has to make are which girl he wants to romance because his hardships feel easy to overcome. Money doesn't feel like a particularly pressing issue, you have to actually try to make Ian fail badly at his career, you can easily do all his 'outs' at once (focus on career, focus on creative writing, and focus on becoming an mma competitor). That all combined makes Ian's side of the page feel lighthearted and warm to me. Whereas Lena's story has a strikingly different tone. She's backed in to corner and her friends and love interests all act self-centered. Whether they genuinely care about Lena or not, it seems intentionally hard to tell. The only exception is Holly, I suppose. In stark contrast to Ian's, Lena's plot is dramatic and her relationships cold. All in all I enjoy Lena's story more because the plot is more interesting and I feel like there is more room for meaningful change and growth. But I'm glad the other side is there to provide some good vibes. PS: I should note that I avoid pairing Lena and Ian together. Maybe it is me, but I'm having trouble treating the other character as anything but a sort of glorified npc until the storytelling perspective shifts each time. Which makes pairing them up appear like a sort of mind control and it's just wrong, somehow.

I try to play Lena a bit adventurous but not slutty. Seymore and the photoshoots with Axel are a very interesting scenario. Ivy is pushing Lena to be more adventurous and Ian lacks such a friend. Jeremy (?) is similar to ivy but he doesn't influence Ians behaviour like Ivy does. He is more of a wing man. I also find it fun to explore Lenas carrier as a nude model and to see how people like her rommate react to it. The only thing i dislike about Lena is the fact that she keeps on complaining how hard her life is even tho here parents are the only unresolved problem i have in my playthrough xD. Ians life is a bit basic on the other hand. He has no super interesting hobby and the fighting tournament hasn't happened yet so i don't know if he meets someone interesting there. But im so invested in pushing Perry in trying to help Wade save his relationship and im really interested in making it as a writer. I never tried going after other girls with Ian because he is set up in a way which makes it clear that he is falling for Lena. I wouldn't mind involving Holly in a way but i mostly denied her. I think that i would have played Ian more experimental with other girls if his ex would have appeared sooner and if her appearance would have made it uncertain if he could get Lena. But it feels like it is obvious that he has very good chances with Lena so there is no reason to fucking it up with other girls. The other girls (besides Holly) are also not that interesting to me when playing Ian. Most of them are just looking to have fun or are bored of their current situation. I want my buddies to have interesting relationships too while Ian gets Lena. And i think there are no interesting setups for Relationships with Ian besides him finding someone he likes and to fuck with. Stan is a potential power fantasy (having him lust after you) or an interesting scenario (what do you do when someone falls for you). Axel is nicely written (and a bit creepy at first). Seymore is a slippery slope. I feel like Ian could have had a girl trying to toy with him. Someone like Ivy or Jessica (or Jack) could have tried to seduce him. I think things would have been more interesting if more time had passed since Ians break up and his ex could have been together with one of his friends. You could then have lingering feelings flare up from time to time. I also think there could have been a bunch of cool sceenes where Ian is just horny. Lets say he finds an Onlyfans account of one of the girls from his friends group. Lets say cindy. And i feel like Ian is desperately lacking a female roommate who can get him in hot situations which test his resolve. Oh and maybe i missed it but i think that Ian could have had some gay/non binary fun just like Lena and Ivy (or Holy) have. Its definetally not a must but its weird that Lena can have casual girl on girl fun so that you can play her in a "this is nothing serious" why while Ian has none of it. Im not sure what i would do for Ian because his character is different but i would love for him to casually do somethig sexual which he could play off but it also could develop in to something more. Like watching porn and faping with a friend (male or female). Or visiting a Strip Club/Swinger Club with Jeremy. Watching a Friends fuck while masturbating to it. He could also play spicy drinking games with his buddies. I don't know its just a bit weird that you can play Lena in a way which allows her to wear less clothes at home, to let her room mate take naked pictures of her, to have fun with her female friends while Ian is just a normal bloke. It basically boils down to this: I find Lenas Life fascninating and i love exploring it but i would feel really comfortable and fulfilled in Ians Life and i love developing his life.

Lena is more likely to be a victim of circumstance, which makes for more of a challenge and gives the opportunity to make questionable decisions. It's interesting to see this distinction here, as it seems to be a very common trait in traditional works of fiction as well. Has anyone else noticed that female protagonists are more likely to be reactive, while males are more likely to be proactive?

I do like Ian, and seeing his perspective does make things more interesting. But only insofar as it relates to Lena's story and helps flesh it out (no pun intended :P), and makes him a more complete character in it.
