THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE (1956): FULL LENGTH

Jean Brodie (Maggie Smith) is a free-spirited teacher at a Scottish girls' school during the 1930s. She encourages her young pupils to embrace romantic ideals, educating them about love and art rather than hard facts. However, her controversial teaching philosophy draws the ire of the school's headmistress, Miss Mackey (Celia Johnson), and, as Miss Brodie becomes entangled in a love triangle, her behavior towards her favorite students becomes increasingly manipulative.

Wow, what a surprise to see you watching this. That's awesome! When I heard that JK Rowling wanted Maggie Smith to play McGonagall because of this movie, it made me wonder, did she actually see it. I grew up watching the TV series of the same name, so when I saw the movie, it shocked me. I wasn’t ready for Sandy’s relationship with Teddy at all. I was expecting an old, stodgy coming-of-age movie. Instead, I get this juggernaut of underlying sexual tension. I believe Sandy’s anger is justified, and someone had to stop Jean. But I also think she was jealous. Sandy ended up becoming a nun in the book I think it's a fascinating movie.

Maggie and Robert Stephens (Teddy) were married from 1967 -1975. They had real chemistry in this, didn't they. Nice to finally see you enjoy her lead actress Oscar winning performance. Pamela Franklin (Sandy) was also quite fine.
