Great music. The animation sequence was fun. Olivia lights up every scene she's in but the script and dialogue were kind of bizarre. "Roller Disco" was a real thing but by the time this film premiered, both Disco and Roller Disco were already done, so it was kind of odd.

Absolutely, Jim!! I'm okay with the fact that this movie is basically one long music video because the songs are so great, and as you said, the stars shone bright! ๐Ÿ˜Š

'Twas a blast from the past for me, too, Scott. It might have been overblown with dazzling musical numbers stitched together with somewhat trite writing, but the stars shone bright.

Hello, darling Kemi! I think your analysis of the movie is actually quite accurate. All of the questions you had, I believe you actually answered them for yourself; however, if the movie did not make the story perfectly clear, then that is the sign of a weak script. I believe that Kira was the same muse who inspired Danny in the 1940s. Danny fell in love and lost her, but Kira followed the rules and did not allow herself to be with Danny. It's not clear whether or not she fell in love with Danny. However, we know that Kira fell in love with Sonny, and so she was willing to break the rules to pursue love with Sonny, even though her assignment was only to make "Xanadu" happen. The movie was neither a critical nor box office success; however, the soundtrack was a smash hit. "Magic" spent four weeks at #1 for Olivia Newton-John, and the album sold 3 million copies, going platinum. I received the "Xanadu" soundtrack as a Christmas gift that year, and it was the first album I ever owned. I wore that record out, playing it over and over again!! I was 11 years old when "Xanadu" was released. I remember seeing ads on television, and something about the film just called to me. I was fascinated by the fantasy element, the music, the bright colors. I became obsessed with the title because I thought it was so exotic! When I was 12 years old and in the eighth grade, I started to study French, and we had to choose a French name for ourselves. I chose the name "Xavier" because it began with the letter X, just like the word Xanadu. LOL This was Gene Kelly's last film, and it looked like he was having a great time, combining his classic dance and music with the new sound of the 80s. I loved the sequence when Danny's vision and Sonny's vision came together in the mash-up called "Dancin'." I agree they should have given more for Gene Kelly to do, but this was really a vehicle for Olivia Newton-John. This was her follow-up to "Grease," and yes, it was a disappointment at the time; however, it has since become a cult classic and a fan favorite. Besides, neither Olivia Newton-John nor Michael Beck was a trained dancer to the level of Gene Kelly. They had to come up with routines that they could handle. Thank you, as always, for this reaction. I'm glad you enjoyed three of the songs, even if this did not rise to the level of "Grease." ๐Ÿ˜Š

This'll be fun!
