In an instant you are elsewhere, standing on an ancient battlefield.
A sea of blood spreads out around you, its surface broken by mounds of corpses, the occasional rock, and a lone island bearing a long-dead tree.
The wind howls with the anguish of the thousands who died here.

Does your campaign feature a deity who rules over death or the field of battle, or perhaps an ancient vampire or other creature that is drawn to blood? Is a member of the party prone to visions of possible futures or terrible pasts? This map could work for any of these!
Visions of Death is a marriage of inspirations prompted by a sequence in The Legend of Vox Machina, but pushing it farther and drawing very heavily from the imagery of Berserk's Eclipse. It's easily one of my most grim/upsetting maps in some time, so I may try to find some cheerier subject matter for my next few efforts...

My maps are made with assets from Forgotten Adventures and AoA (bolstered with assets of my own making here and there), and they usually come with day/night, edited/unedited, and light/lightless variants, plus JPEGs, WebPs with transparent backgrounds, and UVTT (DD2VTT) files for Foundry VTT if the map features buildings or interiors.
