Hong Kong

Inspired by all the amazing photos from the protests in Hong Kong. They are fighting for their freedom and democracy against China’s encroaching totalitarian rule.

As someone born in China and having seen all the horrendous abuse of power that happens without democracy, my heart is with the people of Hong Kong. I hope they will achieve their goals of freedom and inspire others to also fight for their rights to democracy.

I was in Yinchuan at the end of last year teaching English in a private school; it was cold and dry and the dust never stopped blowing in from the Gobi desert. Many of the residents wore masks, surgical and otherwise. Few of those people wanted to be there but they had no choice; the Chinese government wouldn't let them move. In a communist country you can't vote the politicians out. You would need a revolution to change things.

? Sorry but i disagree, it's not "the same" uniform-type. It's cheap equipement wich seems the same and it's the whole point : if you want to protest you better not be noticeable. Even as the most pacifisct protester ever, you don't want to be noticed, ah ah... And being dressed the same as the more action-oriented protesters can shield them a little from repercussions. Of course, i could be wrong, but having participated in a lot of protests in my own country, i'm pretty sure i'm not. Well, have a good day anyway =)

Same helmet, same dress and same mask, these people are not fighting for freedom, they are fighting for money from anonymous people.Ironically, the bauhinia flower on the umbrella represents Hong Kong special administrative region of China.
