The simplified version is not only faster, but I find it useful in larger images where the lip details won't be that noticeable. The more detailed version is good for close ups and when lips are the focus.

He's my VTM malkavian character (older art of him is on my Twitter and IG). This sketch was based on our last session where he followed a vision he received and decided to kill an innocent woman to keep up the masquerade. He managed to get away with it, but because he also passed his humanity roll with two successes he felt immediate and immense sorrow and started crying.
