The Journey to Green Sand Beach 3

For all their intense complaining during the 3 mile hike, the kids defaulted back to their beach-loving selves.  You have to clamber down this cliff face to get to a fairly small beach with one weird distinctive feature...

41 + Update

Hello Patrons!  Yesterday I accidentally turned 41, and whenever these things happen I decide it's time to jettison all my old stuff and set off in a new direction.  You can get any number of the art mentioned above for the mere sum of $41, free US shipping!

I'll likely do a mega post featuring all the art I have for sale but most people have particular models/ things they want to see so feel free to DM me any requests!

Speaking of setting off in a new direction, I've already m...

The Journey to Green Sand Beach 2

The 3 mile hike was generally over totally dirt roads or volcanic beach and without any signposts meaning you had to rely on other hikers you saw in the distance going in a similar direction to know you were doing something right.  It was only bearable when I started playing music on my phone to distract us.

The Journey to Green Sand Beach 1

Our first full day in Hawaii was spent trekking to and from a place called Green Sand beach.  It was a ridiculously difficult 3 mile hike that one could have taken a ride to if they were willing to pay $20 a person to be driven 3 miles.

Primordial Creative the LP

Hello patrons!  I'm announcing a new album release, and for anyone unfamiliar with the musical side of Primordial Creative, I make music as well as images and animations- it's the stuff that is in all my video art pieces, mainly a mix of trip hop, ambient, industrial and world music.

Since it's been a dog's age since I put together a full album and released it to all the stores, I had 4 years of tracks to pull from, and ended up with what I think is a neat stew of sounds and ideas....

Erin Mae Instax

Enjoy this set I shot with normally nude Erin Mae!

The Explainer video has interview footage I shot with Erin, unfortunately in a subway station, but an interview nonetheless!

Sky not sunglassed

A double exposure attempt with Sky on the beach.  Pure sunlight is usually too harsh for any double exposure work but next to water and bright sand it's like doubly bright.

Sky sunglassed

Shooting w Sky at the beach in pure daylight was too much for my poor instax camera so I tried to jury rig a neutral density filter with some random sunglasses I had inherited from another model.

Bethany blurred

An accident from shooting with my old Phoenix buddy Bethany in LA.  A magical thing happens after I scan things- my attitude towards mistakes totally changes.  Not recommended to make a completely blurred portfolio but occasionally it can work!

Q + A!

"Q + A" is a short film about the dignity we trade for work.  Shot last year when I had a studio, it stars Bethany Brown, Peter Bugg and the voice of Alina Lee aka Thumbelina.  I made it and intended on entering it to festivals though I'm never fully convinced the festival route is the best thing for what I make- I seem to do better simply releasing stuff into the wild and having people find me that way.  In the meantime, enjoy this special secret presentation of "Q + A"!  Pa...

New work update!

Hello Patrons!  I'm home from our family summer vacation to Hawaii and my own trip to LA and currently fried mentally and physically.  In LA I shot with familiar faces McKenzie Eckels, Sky K Blue, and Ana Corbí, my friend from Phoenix Bethany, and a new model to me Erika (seen above with McKenzie's legs).

June is a month where every year I get excited about shooting in a pool, on a beach, in the ocean, until I realize how difficult it is to deal with things like intense sunsh...

Lux Death in Blue #3

BTS of shooting Lux Lacheln in my backyard lo those years ago.  The camera in question is a 4x5 Speedgraphic which I subsequently sold, realizing most of my good images were not shot with the slow, formal camera.

Lindi #2 Roadkill

As mentioned in the last Lindi post, I had a makeup idea that was inspired by the halftone patter on Lindi's arm.  We used a netting to cover her head and sponge dark makeup around, like a tire tread.  It was okay and I think a pro MUA could do a bit better.  Not a fan of the umbrella prop in this one (shot in 2010) but live and learn!

Lindi #1 Hitchhiker

This was with local model/ breakdancer Lindi Hop around Phoenix's South Mountain.  I usually don't shoot with local people because it's merely just a fun hobby for most people around here.  The most significant thing about this shoot was a makeup idea I had and put my wife in charge of doing, which you'll see in tomorrows posting.

Housecleaning in a cave

Hello Patrons! I’m up early on my Hawaii trip, doing some housekeeping.

I’ve added the tag “Saturday Set” to each of those posts so it’s easier to find those using the tags in the browser section. If you are using the Patreon app, they don’t have the tags there. Annoying, I know!

Lux Death in blue #1

This was from a great idea by Lux Tango/ Lacheln involving a sort of Neil Gaiman's Death/ Siouxsie Sioux look.  It was shot in my backyard and though the final digital images all went black and white, I shot a lot of BTS with the color instax because you never know which ones are going to be the better alternatives.

Ammalyn - The Princess of Portland

I think I mentioned in a previous explainer video how Ammalyn was one of the best models I've ever shot with who had life circumstances that dissuaded her from doing a lot of shooting or traveling.  Rather than record a new video of me saying the same thing as before, I'll point you to this "how Worm Face was made video" relating to the image from this set with all those handsome worms pouring out of her mouth!  If...

A Gaggle

All these models!  I scheduled 4 and when one didn't respond I scheduled a replacement, then all 5 showed up.  It was mostly a nightmare.  Glass Olive on the bottom left, Mynxii White on the right, Victoria Vertuga above her, not sure of the middle model, Lindy Mei on the upper left.  At a great studio in LA that is no longer around.

Wife Audition #1

I first saw the woman I would marry in 2000 at an art gallery where I had a photography show up.  A few weeks later I actually got to talk to her and told her "I'm gonna take your picture".  I set up a model shoot at the community college I was a student at and this is one of the BTS polaroids of that original shoot.
