Preview of new animated project "The Last Days of Phil Ochs"

Hello patrons!  I wanted to share something I started a couple weeks ago- in fact I thought I might finish it in a few days- but it's turned into something a lot bigger, so I'm saying end of August.  Maybe.

It's an animated short film about a true-life, incredibly brilliant activist artist named Phil Ochs had a steady decline and tragic end.  Here's the first 2 minutes of it- I'll probably have to animate another cutaway scene to make this more exciting to watch.

Rachel Swims In A Swamp

I remember this model as one who had kind of a stage mom who wanted to see her daughter become a star or something.  Shot at one of Phoenix's many fake lakes in burning hot summertime.

Mystery model

Here's an oddity.  A model I shot in Seattle around 2010 but I have no indicator or memory of what her name was- the scan is just called "Seattle model".  Clearly not a particularly memorable shoot but I still like these more random images shot in the darkness at Discovery Park!

Waveform with Cacia Zoo 18+

While I'm in progress with some new work with Cacia Zoo, I thought I'd share our first work ever together - the 18+ video Waveform, filmed largely on a GoPro Hero Black 4 in 2015!  I tried remixing this work a few times but nothing is as good as the original.  Music by me with vocals from Cacia.  Password is "caciapatreon".

Instax Sale!

I've got 2 trips just around the corner (Hawaii + LA) and, as always, I have an instax sale to help make sure we can actually do things when we arrive.  

This time I got out a lot of instax that I haven't put up for sale- stuff from 2010-2012, recent NYC stuff, favorites of my frequent collaborators that I hadn't quite wanted to let go of in the past, and stuff with Maggie!

Baby steps

This is one of the few random no-people Polaroids I have here- but it was one of my very first attempts with the material.  It's a 4x5 peel-apart Polaroid in my hometown of Omaha, NE from 2000.  I like how degraded and messed up it's gotten after years of being in drawers.

Double Stormy

Another attempt to make something with a Suicide Girl, this case Stormy in Vancouver.  I don't know why I keep doing that, the SGs I meet are always nice but it's a totally different aesthetic from what they are used to shooting and what I think my strengths are.

Lorelei Black - Immediate Response

I asked Lorelei Black to shoot instax around Brooklyn in April, and then to immediate respond in writing on the bottom of the images.  Explainer video and BTS footage here!

This was with a Suicide Girl named Zuriah circa 2010.  I don't remember much else of this shoot except it was one of the early iterations of this instax collage style I do a lot of lately.

Kacie Marie - Damaged

from last month's NYC trip.  Kacie and I walked up and down the street my hostel was on and we found this Spy Vs. Spy mural that matched her b+w shirt nicely.

Kids + Great Grandpa

From a trip to Macedonia in 2014, where my kids got to meet my wife's grandpa.  Many of her family only speak Macedonian and my kids only know a few random words, so I don't know if either of them made an impression on the other.  Like many of the instax from that trip, I left it with the faraway subject of the photo and only have my own digital shot to remember it by.

"Hellfire" with Hailey J (18+)

This is kind of a companion piece to the recent vide I did with Ana Corbí, "Devilwoman"- just really simply shot stuff with a retro-tinged soundtrack and Hell-related themes.  Lots of red.  Password is "Patreonhell".  Enjoy!

May/ June Update

Hello patrons!  Just giving you an update as to what’s happening around here.     

Firstly, my dog of 14 years Worf was put to sleep yesterday morning.  He was blind, toothless, obese, had dementia and for the past couple days couldn’t walk, so clearly the signs were there that it was time.  Alina aka Thumbelina really helped by putting out an art sale...

Ella Mai got into her yoga poses towards the end of the shoot and they ended up being some of the best material, when I had only minutes left.

Worf

Our beloved cattledog of 14 years, Worf, is dying. He cannot get up or eat anything in front of him. If anyone out there wants to buy instax, prints, masks, zines, book a shoot today would be a good time as $ is needed to get the $420 to have him home euthanized and cremated. Thank you.

Instax with my friend Liz in her Hollywood home.  I was with a traveling nude model who convinced her to go implied nude with this plastic bird I bought in a Palm Springs party store.

Part of the purpose of shooting so much instant film is to get images like this that are really uncontrolled and loose and chaotic.  I use so many of the digital images where you see her face and expression as portfolio pieces/ potential book pieces but ultimately I think things like these, shot at the Petrified Forest near Holbrook AZ, hold a greater fondness to me.

This was with Victoria Lee with my old Fuji Instax Wide Camera in Brooklyn in 2014.  I wish I still had that camera.  I gave it away to a model friend who did a bunch of additional styling, body painting work for me. 

Cacia Chaos!

Much like yesterday's post, I went a bit crazy with the splitzer on my new Lomo Instant Wide- this is 4 exposures in 1.  This was with Cacia Zoo in NYC by a subway entrance.  I was a bit worried about shooting on the street since there's so many people out and about, but they all totally ignore you and you start to feel a bit invisible.
