Avery the Immortal: Part Ten (complete)

Mama always has people coming and going from her house. Much like with me, she takes in people she believes needed help, as well as apprentices who study under her. The house is always full, and there’s always someone in one of the spare bedrooms. I very rarely have a moment to myself, and it slowly becomes annoying.

Mama constantly assures me that all these things are temporary, and they are...

“He will still be mine,” I say as sure as the sunsets “Even more so than before.”

“Penelope,” her voice is low and harkens to the days when I drew on her wallpaper. “The bond goes both ways. He will have some power as well.”

I smirk to myself. “He it putty in my hands. I’ve known that since I was little. He has a fondness for me, even more so now that I am grown. He is a man of appetites, Mama, and I will keep his hunger in my favor.”

“Stay smart, Pen...

Avery the Immortal: Part Nine (complete)

Something has been bothering me lately. The years between losing Avery and finding him again used to be a fond, well-loved memory. Now that we are reunited, I have been going over the memory in my head dozens of times, and come to realize that perhaps I can do better.

When Avery and I first made love, it was not the romance one would usually dream of. It was kind of awkward and sudden, but I su...

Maxence the Living Painting: Part Three (complete)

Despite how much he loves painting, and creating art is his passion, Maxence hasn’t yet been able to bring himself to create again. Being trapped within a painting has taken its toll on him, and now painting feels like a burden rather than a joy. It’s hard to watch him struggle, and I know that he wants to overcome this pain. He loves painting, and yet he loathes it.

“Try writing,” I su...

Fierna the Demon (special preview)

I look up, following a leg like sapphire velvet upwards to see the woman above me. I sat up in hurry, vomiting off to the side.

She clicks her tongue and ran her black tongue over her teeth. “Disgusting,” she grouses. She moves to the side, watching me with a cold gaze until I wipe my mouth and look back at her.

“You done?” She sneers.

I wheeze and nod, flopping back onto my ass.

She takes in a deep breath as her eyes glare viciously. “To think, this is...

Mercutio the Tiefling: Part Two (special preview)

I sat up in a flury. “If you are angry then you should know!” I roared. “You should understand! I have no time to grieve!” He glared at him and stood up from my desk, shoving him away and falling backwards.  I stumbled and slipped, grabbing hold of the runner on the mantel which knocked over the candlestick. Hitting the floor. I sat there for a long moment until the wax began to drip on me.

“The rug is pulled out,” I whispered.

Tyrone came to my side an...

Mercutio the Tiefling: Part One (special preview)

I went by his shop that evening after work. It was growing dark out, but he had left a candle in his window. As I walked inside, I could hear him working in the back room. The front room was filled with shoes, several small shelves showed off his work as well as old tools that decorated the wall.

“Lock that door behind you, would ya?” Tyrone called from the back.

I smirked to myself. “How do you know who is here?”

“I don’t, just hoping I’m lucky thi...

It’s been years since Annemieke became a popular artist within the hidden world that Robin showed us. She has been working tirelessly at her art ever since, creating some of the most astounding pieces I have ever seen. There is no way to truly compare art - it would be cruel to even try. But I do believe Annemieke has surpassed her father in every way.

We’re able to live comfortably, ...

True love’s kiss. Whoever believed such a thing who wasn’t still on their mother’s breast? It seems as ridiculous a notion to me as any other fairy tale. But this is my son, and I would try anything to see that he is brought back safe to me.

Moments later, the door opens and Barbachollo is standing there. He’s a tall, thin man who is pale in pallor and has his dark hair swept back, revealing his striking widow’s peak. Instantly, Maxence grabs hold of my hand and squeezes tight.

“There you are, Ms. Haydee, and this must be your lucky paramore. Come in,” he stands aside in the doorway. “I’m just getting lunch finished. If you don’t mind waiting in the parlor, I’ll come fetch you when it’s ready.”

Ages ago, when I was young, I was given as an offering to the lord of the local lands. He had favored me at a glance, so the rest of the village made a decision to give me to him in hopes that they would be blessed. Brothers Bethune & Baird: Part Two (complete)

Exhaustion kicks in at some point, and I fall asleep in the invisible car Baird has created with his miming. When I awake, I’m lying on an old sofa with a blanket draped over me. I thought she meant the painting, but I also felt like there was something deeper there. It was as if she was afraid that, with these vision issues, she was going to have to start from the bottom again with her artwork.

A few weeks later, Annemieke had her doctor’s appointment. Robin r...

As I leave the kitchen to go to the bathroom, I pass by the studio. Inside, I have my paintings lining the walls. One remains unfinished on the easel and there are a few canvases that I have sketched out. I’ve always enjoyed painting figures, especially in the fashion of Reubens where they were fuller. To the stars, this was a travesty. They had no view, no craggy mountains or trees or roses to gaze upon, merely blue oceans and ...

Mistake on February 13th

I just realized that on February 13th I made a horrible mistake. I never realized there wasn't a story scheduled then. I don't know what happened, I'm not sure what the mix-up was, but I am so very sorry! I will try to do something to make up for it. Until then, I greatly apologize and promise It won't happen again.
