Flashback Collector's

Yes, it's been 25 years since Flashback entered our lives (26 actually), and here to celebrate this quarter of a century is the Nintendo Switch collector's edition.

So, is it any good?

Wellll....

The 'incredible world' of 90s driving accessories

Well, two to be exact; the Logic3 FreeWheel and the QuickJoy SV-129 Footpedal.

A combination made in heaven?......

80s a e s t h e t i c Racers

Having heard of and stumbled across quite a few racing games which seem to be pulled straight from the 80s, I thought I'd go through each one and share my thoughts...

The SuperDisk

I love floppy disks. I love how they hold just 1.44MB of data. I really do. But the thought of a floppy disk that can hold 120MB of data, now that's intriguing.

Most of you are fully aware of Imation's Superdisk, so I've created a relaxing video featuring the setup and use, along with some brief history.

Marvellous.

Why is Static Monochrome?

It's BYTE SIZE time.

Specifically, why is television static black and white, byte size time.

Mega Drive Classics Review

Sega sent me a code for the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis classics, so I thought I'd give it a review. After all it's up my street, or at least adjacent to my street.

Is it any good? Well.... kinda.

Xbox Duke

Ahhhhh, the original Xbox pad. What a vast colossal beast that was. Given that Hyperkin have just launched a new version of it, I felt it was time to look at this controllers history, before taking the new one for a ride.

After all, it's not cheap.

But it is quite cheerful.

Memories of Arcade

Having had a weekend of Arcade action up in Manchester, I thought I'd use the footage to make a video about arcade memories.

If you ever get a chance to visit Bury's Arcade club, I fully recommend it also. It was a blast.

PC Building Simulator

I have a Quick Play if it takes your fancy.

Essentially I wanted to know if PC Building Simulator catered for our retro needs, so I downloaded it and charged into a free build situation.

This video is that outcome of that endeavour.

Let's just say, there are no processors which make me jump with glee.

What did we USE before USB?

USB seems as common place now as Ford Mondeos did in the 90s. So here's a video exploring what ports we used beforehand.

I'm sure most of us already know all of this, but its a nostalgic trip none the less.

I hope you're having a great bank holiday weekend, for those of us who are having a  bank holiday weekend.

PC Pro Magazine September 1995

I've acquired a copy of PC Pro issue 11, from September 1995.

Just looking at these issues fills me with nostalgia, so I thought I'd better share it with you fine people.

Especially given Windows 95 came out in August '95. The month this issue was on sale.

Robocop

Robocop is a film which impacted me greatly upon viewing. Something about it deeply connected with me, and in this video I explore why that is, and how that connection affected my relationship with the subsequent games.

It's time to go deep.

Yes. Yes it did. But is it as good as the classic board game series?

ZX81 vs. PC - CHESS

Good evening my favourite Patreon people.

I was bored the other night and so decided to pit 1K Chess on the ZX81 vs. a couple of modern chess engines to see the outcome.

Here is the result.

Friday the 13th ZX Spectrum

I haven't done a Quick Play for a while, so here's one especially for Friday the 13th.

The horror is more in the gameplay than the content.

Streets of Red review

A little review of a game which caught my eye - Streets of Red: Devil's Dare Deluxe.

A game which, although clearly based on Streets of Rage, has many elements taken from many different games and films to make a nostalgic extravaganza.

I didn't realise until half way through the video that it was actually released in 2014 as Devil's Dare, and this console release is an updated version (should have guessed that from the title).

C64 Mini

I want to get this out asap, so only a short "early access" for this.

Still, it's only a C64 Mini, it's not like it's a proper piece of retro hardware.

Overall, not too bad, but a bit shoddy.

The Amstrad "Integra"

Amstrad is synonymous with the CPC, but they also made a range of interesting PCs (aside from the Mega PC). The Integra is one such model, released in the mid-90s, it's essentially a Compaq all-in-one clone, but a rather pleasing one, from my perspective at least.

I actually picked this up off eBay recently, and couldn't pass up the opportunity to grab it and play with it.

Moonwalker in 8 bits

Everyone knows Moonwalker from the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis, but how does it fare on its older, and less capable, brother?

Well, my childhood memories tell me it fares well, however my current experience tells me otherwise.

The PS2 TV

Much like the Sharp Nintendovision, Super Famicom Naizou TV SF1  and Sega Dreamcast CX-1 TV, there was actually a Playstation 2 variant, known as the memorable; Sony Bravia KDL22PX300. It's launch in 2010 is a late one, both for me, and the PS2 hardware, but I find it obscure enough to be interesting.

So here's an inspection of it.

Oids, Atari ST: Inspiration for Lemmings

I'm running terribly behind where I want to be with videos, but here's a review of Oids for the Atari ST.

This has been requested by Patron, Gary Pinkett, and features the NERD MASTER... I'm sure Sir Patrick Moore would be disgusted.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend folks!

Magnets vs. Floppy Disks

This is a question I've wanted to know the answer to for as long as I can remember it, yet I've never really realised it.

Well, the other day I did. So I grabbed some magnets, some floppies and went to town with some thoroughly unprofessional and amateur experiments.

I hope you enjoy!

An "Interesting" Trip

So here's my summary of the Blackpool Play Expo.

I say of the expo, it's more a summary of the roadtrip there, the accommodation and the general lack of sleep had by all.

All I can say is, if anyone invites you to the Norbrek Castle. Turn them down, politely... or at least make sure you don't have room 196.

Of course, adverts are off until it's live.
