ORION commission (pt.2)
Aaaaand that's how it's done! A bit (haha, yeah, right, "A BIT") overdone with the backgrounds details, but this is how I try to channel Kirby's aesthetic excess, I guess?...

Also -the usual:

Posting only half of the inking process because of how gargantuan the commission is! But, for a change - here's also some sketches (last 7 pictures). I very rarely share pencils of my work separately - especially for commissions - but in this case, the scribbles I made were very fun on their own.
Come back tomorrow for the second half of the process photos and the finished piece itself!

Did any of you noticed yesterday the change in the wooden spikes between the last process photo and the scanned version of the drawing?
Well, here's the thing - I kinda overdid it with those spikes at the very beginning, with all the textures and mold, so it really needed some cleaning up at the end. And thus, I fetched my white ink, used by me maybe 2 or 3 times a year!
Also, the usual side to side sketch/final comparison:

I've been hoping to one day be commissioned to draw my all-time favorite character from my all-time favorite cartoon (ok, "animated film" XD) - and it FINALLY happened this year!
This ended up being one of the the most complicated art pieces I've done in my life, and it was 100% worth it.
Enjoy!

Buckle up - we're going to A3 Commissions Country! Whooooo!

I've been staying away from "bleeding" pages for 95% of my work, but in Yesaul, I decided to let loose a few of the bigger panels and let them really overflow from the panel borders.
A simple thing, done by so many so easily, and yet my head is still spinning, haha!
(No panel border angled at anything other than 90 degrees, tho. We're running a comics business, not a circus here!!!)

(or, as they also call him, "Artem Dumov")
I really cant express well enough how much I appreciate Artyom's input on the story - from the "meat" he grew on my incredibly primitive story bones ("Artyom, please make up a proper story about a deserter from the weird sci-fi space version of Baron Ungern's army for me!"), to the 3D models I used and layouts he drew for some of the trickiest scenes, and finally, to the two pages of a so-called "dream sequence" he dro...

Here they are, the first 7 pages of "Yesaul "!
We completed our work on it (and, basically, the entire Dagger Dagger anthology itself) yesterday. Since its conception, the story grew almost 2 times bigger and spawned an entire universe in our heads (as much as I personally hate the "concept" of "creating" "universes" to "play with" by so...

When I do grey tones in my artwork, I almost always think of them in means of creating future screentones rather then sticking to solid greys. And yes, those greys look good on physical originals (I'm just a little bit against the current trend of slathering every inch of commissions with actual physical screentones), but when I see my art in print or on scree, I need me some DOTS. n That's why I convert most of Dune stuff, and even simple commissions into these big, visible sc...

Love me some iconic steamy action by José Luis García-López ^____^

With how samey general line Gundams are, it's still very fun to make some of them more lean and some of them bulky as hell.
But please, for the sake of future zine - commission me to draw more "bad" guys of the Gundam universe! :D

Hey there, fellow Slavic Nihilists and sympathizers!
Here's the very first, opening page of "Yesaul" for your pleasure:

I was really nervous about this one - First Pages are kinds important for this here Yojimbo/traversing and inhabiting deserted spaces fan, you know. Just going to list some of them to refresh your memory:

This is a classic case of me going full Louis Wain on my drawings. And I won't lie - I LOVE going into this mode! Also, in my time, I hope to draw all of the Moorcock bois.

Here they are - my absolute favorite dynamic manga duo <3

*repeatedly slaps knee very loudly* HELMETS HELMETS HELMETS
Why don't they just call it "Star Helmets" ? That's what the entire franchise is about anyway, right?!! <3

(I'll be posting tons and tons of commissions this week and for the entirety of December, pr...

Had a huge, tremendous pleasure of finally sitting my ass down to draw Kenzo Okuzaki (from The Emperor's Naked Army Marches On) for a friend. I hate drawing portraits in general, but every once in a while you come across a human being so fascinating, that even their face becomes a harrowing image you just need to translate onto paper. So, I needed to get this potential drawing outta my system sooner or later, and there couldn't be a better occasion than making a gift...

My Slavic Nihilism zines are back on the menu after the recent reprint, and it means tons and tons of sketches I have to draw inside them! If you've ordered some for yourself recently - be careful not to spoil anything for yourself here ;) Maybe even skip the post! I don't mind and won't feel hurt!

This page is pretty spoopy, so happy Halloween to you all tomorrow! <3

Bonus: some battle animals designed by Artyom Doomov:

This was actually the very first page of my next Dune sketchbook, bu I've kept my initial sketch untouched in pencils for almost two months before finally getting to finish it this week. What do you think about this Irulan? A pretty unorthodox drawing for her, I suppose.
Also - my reference for the lion mural:

A small post to praise my new friend - a block of small paper squares usually used for notes and memos (I’m sure you are familiar with the concept). Recently I’ve been using them to sketch - sometimes even during Zoom calls - and very often it ends in some very interesting results. If you pay close attention to the photo, you’ll notice that both versions of my recent Sandworms and the Guild Navigator’s face were reproduced 1:1 in finished drawings; my Reverend Mother drawing was born ...

Welp! That sure was a colossal amount of work for one page, hahaha.
Flipping through the process photos above, you could notice some pretty dramatic edits happening to the page on later stages. And I'm still going to clear out even more of background inks and grey tones from panel 1, because I obviously got carried away in the process there. That's what I'm calling "meditative drawing", and this process does sometimes ends with me loosing my grip a little -___-
Also! Did you know ...

Back to semi-regular posting, yay? Very happy about this one. Took me two tries to nail the bastard, but, ladies and gentlemen, we got him! Same creature design, but completely different tone and character - thanks to all the tech-jewellery, lil' pee-pee and entourage.
(Also, here's that old Navigator piece from before!)

Hey fellow $3+ nihilists! Look! This is what happens when I decide to show Thomas King and his cronies what a REAL ninegrid is ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).
(I probably shouldn't show every single page I do for this story here, but I love it so muuuuuuuuch T____T And I need to share it with people!)
Anyway, as usual - pencils versus inks:

And as usual - cat versus art:

(Don't miss the first post here!)
Rare occurrence: me redrawing a huge chunk of a commission from the scratch??? Welp, first of all, on my initial drawing I ended up using too much white ink (to get rid of some "dirt" around the letters), and the paint in big amounts looks too messy for my taste and with this style. Secondary, the inked over version ended up feeling too "heavy" and ...
