094 - Eat What You Kill Unless It Was a Hamster

My friend Destin hunts a little and did growing up. I don't, but I respect it and I enjoy hunting stories. Also there's a bigger point to all this in this friendship/windshield time episode.

I made a new playlist for this episode that's linked in the shownotes. What's not in the shownotes is this link to my 2020 playlist on Spotify which is PURE GOLD, and will only make your life better.

Amy, The Keeper of Memories, gives us the rundown/deep-dive on a fascinating lady who suffered a mysterious demise.

It's time for a hard-core learn-a-thon thanks to you!

How NOT to Conduct a Job Interview - (We're Hiring Correspondents!)

Enjoy the shtick.... and the answers for that matter.  I think bringing more brains in on a thing can lead to good things.  Its our pleasure to introduce you to the new correspondents!

Thank you for your continued support on Patreon.  As an Official Winged Hussar, you've helped make this happen!  I think you'll really enjoy what comes of this.

Trying a new thing - Episode paintings

They there.  I thought you'd enjoy this.

We have been uploading podcast episodes to YouTube for quite some time now.  We recently asked an artist local to Huntsville Alabama if he'd be interested in painting a fun art piece as the episode played out.  I thought you'd enjoy seeing the final product for NDQ088 - The Dead Sea Scrolls!  I'm going to start processing this video for upload to YouTube now.. it shows the creation of this piece. Thanks again...

This time around we're talking about the unwritten rules of life and Brady has thoughts on that. We had fun, and I hope you do too.

090 - The Nuclear Option

Every now and then Destin calls and tells me to turn on a microphone with zero preparation and then he starts in on a topic. This was one of those times, and I'm glad he came at it the way he did, because I had to learn and reason this through on the fly, which is probably the way you'll encounter the conversation too. This was a sober conversation that pushed me and I hope you find it useful as well.

In case I haven't said it in a couple of week: We appreciate you.

The reason we're able to talk about hard, personal things (whether we all see things the same way or not) is because of you. So thank you for making this bit of Internet happen friends.

088 - The Dead Sea Scrolls

We're having a lot of fun with these "you learn something interesting and teach me" style episodes. These lend themselves to those disappointing Barnacles and Testicles skits, but thankfully this episode doesn't have one of those....er...wait....

We appreciate you more than we're capable of articulating. Thanks Hussars!

087 - "Damn The Torpedoes" (The Battle of Mobile Bay)

For as long as I can remember I've been fascinated with The Battle of Mobile Bay.  I recently visited and spent a lot of time reading about how it all went down and I hope you enjoy the episode!  A special thanks to Matt for being patient with me.

085 - No Dumb Questions with an African American Pastor (An Honest Q&A)

This episode is a group of friends who got together and tried to think of a way to build bridges.  You've possibly noticed a decline in  honest dialogue in recent weeks.  People have expressed to me that they're "scared to say anything" for fear of being chastised for not saying the right things.  The three of us decided that if we were to create a place for people to safely ask questions, we could hopefully get to a place of honest understanding.

084 - Nuclear Fusion Propulsion 101

Can there be a nuclear fusion propulsion 101? I'm still not sure, but we tried anyway, and I'd like to think any normal person who listens to this is going to come out knowing a whole lot more about a complicated thing than they did going in. I know I learned a ton. I hope you enjoy this as much as we enjoyed making it.

Best,

Thanks for making this episode happen Patrons

I hope this one proves to be encouraging and genuinely helpful. We declined sponsorship on this episode, because we thought this one coming only from you was in the spirit of the conversation. Thanks for having our back and we hope you enjoy this very weird but fun episode.

081 - True Grit: Nerds Fighting COVID-19

Here's the long-awaited book review episode of Charles Portis' True Grit (with bonus conversation about The Count of Monte Cristo). Also, Destin throws out some positive news on an idea to do something constructive in response to COVID-19.

Weird times; hang in friends.

Why do we put names on our boats and swords and houses and planes and backpacks and other things? It's kind of an odd habit when you think about.

This is the one to share with your friends!

It's built to be fun for people who've listened since forever, but also it's meant to be a way to quickly on-ramp friends.

Lee appears in this episode, so there are bleeps.

I'm thankful for the winged hussars who made it so that we could do a podcast long enough to need to make an episode to bring new listeners up to speed.

Hey!  Thank you for your continued support as a Winged Hussar (what we call Patrons of the show).  Many people left when they recieved their enamel pin.... but not you!  You're staying in the fight and have proved your worth.

It has come to my attention that some of you would like the NDQ Intro/Outro song files as your ringtone.  Personally, I think that you'll get sick of them if you hear it all the time so I'd advise against it... but if a Winged Hussar asks...

Christmas Music

Hey there!

This morning I ran over to Dr. Schuster's house and asked him if he'd play some Christmas music for the podcast.  He's great... and these were played from memory with no preparation at all.  There are a few fumbles in there which make it feel real.  A lot of you have talked about how much you enjoy the intro and outro music on NDQ, so I thought you might enjoy listening to him jam a little bit.  I took a pocket tascam recorder so this is low quality run an...

We had one of Matt's good friends, Mark Coddington on to talk about the future of Journalism.  That's great and all, but what's really important here is that they tried to game the neighborhood softball league together.  That's really all I needed to know about Mark.  I was in from the moment they said "sweep the leg".

I hope you enjoy this episode.  Thanks again for being a Winged Hussar and helping us make this thing happen.

071 - What Is It Like to be an Immigrant?

The most honest answer is: We don't know, because we've never been immigrants, but we talked with some people and we're up for passing along things we learned from them. Also there's some kind of pterodactyl-like flying reptile Destin wanted to talk about.

Thanks again for making this podcast happen!
