Squeaky Clean Comics on Sundays?

So I was still looking for Mitch Beiro's "Rouge and the Syndicate Daughter". Didn't find it, but I did find most of the print-originals for "Squeaky Clean Comics". It's one of the first 'zines I ever published, somewhere around 1989, when the Small Press was still going strong. The Small Press, in case any of you ignorant toddlers don't know, was how artists did it before the Internet. We copied up small runs of our 'zines on photocopiers, and then traded & sold them via snail-mail. Ah, I...

Once again, I was scrambling for Saturday Filler, when I found this 2-pager from 2002. Twenty-three years ago? Yikes.

Anyway, it never got run because it was soon replaced by a much better filled-out 12-pager, where I discuss the above points with a talking bookstore dog. But that means you probably haven't seen this proto-Heresy before. So enjoy this peek into the past, where a naive young Karno dips a toe into heresy. The poor fool - he had no idea how bad things could get.

I wonder why I daydream about this guy so much? His jokes are a little labored, and while he's a pretty decent singer, his dancing is only so-so. I guess I just like his general attitude.

This is posted a bit late, because I didn't get to bed 'till after midnight, yesterday. And then it took a long time to get to sleep, because I was worried about my wife in the hospital. It seems she suffers from a character flaw common among good people: She'll work herself to the bone looking after others, but neglect her own maintenance in the process.

I spent way too much time trying to dig out the original art for this page, but somewhere, somehow, in the 33 years since it was drawn, it was lost. I did manage to find a full-size color copy, though, so that will have to do for now?
