Deckard, Blade Runner (1982)

This is a sculpt that I have been wanting to make for a very long time, but never had the confidence to tackle because of a fear of not doing the subject matter justice. It almost didn't happen this time either. I have given up on this project a dozen times because I couldn't get the likeness good enough, until in an act of desperation I grabbed the smooth brush and erased the entire face and started over. What I ended up with still isn't where I wish I could have gotten it, but I think it's Good Enough™ (or maybe As Good As It Gets™).

Printing

This one shouldn't require any external supports on FDM, and should be a very easy print. Check out the GIF below for assembly instructions. If you don't want to print the Ennis background pattern you can choose to only print the small base the bust rests on, and it will be just like any other bust :)

The actual Ennis background pattern is not mirrored in the final version. I didn't realise until I was writing this post they were, so I fixed it, and it's only in my pictures they are mirrored.

Thank you all for your continued support! I will be out of town for most of next week since my partner is having surgery, so I will be staying a few nights at an Airbnb a few minutes from the hospital. I'll be bringing my workstation with me to continue working, though, so you'll hear from me again soon!

Rant about likenesses

Doing likenesses can be frustrating. Those of you who have ever attempted it know how it goes. You watch the movie, going through it frame by frame during lots of scenes, grab 200 screenshots of the character in the movie, put them all together in PureRef, and as you go through them you start to realise perfect camera focus isn't really a given. "This would be a great reference shot of the curvature of his upper lip, but Ford's face isn't in focus at all, but his ear is." Okay, fine, I can still work with that. Then you get confused, because in this other shot he looks like he has aged 10 years. His face is all bloated and puffed up. Okay... Maybe allergies? What about his hair in this one? Did his hair just grow 5cm between these two scenes that are supposed to be maybe 10 minutes in between? Yes, it did. And so it goes on. Fuck likenesses :P

HARLEY QUINN

Download link

This one was a bit of a nightmare to engineer, and I spent disproportionally too much time on that part. But here's Harley!

There's two versions.

Variant 1 is more complex and requires a bunch of supports and planning, making sure you print the right parts, but the assembly guide should help with that! Because some parts are fairly long and thin they might be difficult to print on FDM successfully, so I've chopped them up into smaller pieces. If you're doing resin printing you should just grab the full body parts for less assembly required!

Variant 2 is very simple and should be good to just plop on the bed and go!

This has been a bit of a weird month, to be completely honest, which sculpts that have been pretty fun working on, but ended up being very frustrating because I just couldn't get them exactly where I wanted them to go, and time wasted on really dumb, small details. Anyway, I've got some exciting things lined up for next month that I'm confident will work out much better!

So I hope you are all doing well, and I'll see you again next month :)

Superman 2099

👉 Click here for download links! 👈

(For this release I have compressed the files into a few .zip files (alternatively .7z, but you only need to download either the .zip files or the .7z files, not both), so you need to unpack them after downloading. This is to avoid some issues with OneDrive.)

Hello! First of all, I don't think there's an official Superman 2099 thing (I know there's a Spider-Man 2099, different universes, etc...), but I've had this idea in my head for a while now that I wanted to push out, so here it is!

There's a couple of head variants with this one, one more simplified version that is more FDM friendly, and one more complex that works best with resin printers and the supports there (and has a bunch of various combinations of parts, so better look them through properly before starting!).

Going to have to jump straight into finishing up the next release. As usual last minute, but eh, what else is new! Hope you all are doing great! I'll be making a return to the Discord server when things cool off a bit and you can all yell at me there! 😅 In the meantime, if you have any Patreon specific issues that aren't general printing related, I recommend using the contact@eastman.xyz email!

Some personal stuff, can be skipped.
Got my first physical therapy session tomorrow, so that's interesting since I've never done that before, only observed it being done to others! (Mostly elderly with broken hips and femurs). It's nothing acutely serious, but it's a pretty bad case of tendonitis in one of my arms (I have two) from working for years with often heavy patients at the nursing home, that I've been ignoring, and my doctor wasn't well amused. Fortunately it's not in my sculpting arm, but it is very painful doing anything that requires a working bicep muscle. So need to get that sorted.

Other than that I managed to delete my entire archive of my 3D sculpts due to a mistake setting up Syncthing on my home server. Fortunately I do regular manual Rclone backups to Backblaze B2 and Google Drive, but for a moment there I could feel my heart sink to the Earth's core. rm -rf lifestyle. Fuuu...

See you in a few days!

Release: SKELETOR

🤜 CLICK HERE FOR DOWNLOAD LINKS 🤛

Aaand here he is. My reimagination of Skeletor. He's not quite the goofy joker-like figure he is in the original cartoons, but a more serious Lord Emperor Skeletor? To be honest he probably has the same goofy voice regardless...

Anyhoo, he's very easy to print, especially on FDM. Just plop him and the base in the slicer, no external supports should be required!

Time for me to go grab some sleep before I pass out here. I wish you all a great weekend! Good night, y'all! ❤

X-23

👉👉 CLICK HERE FOR DOWNLOAD LINKS 👈👈

Hello!

So this month has been a bit panicky. My graphics card has been on the fritz for a while now, and it finally died a couple of weeks ago. As anyone keeping up with computer hardware knows, with the current state of graphics cards (and components in general) that is a very big and potentially expensive problem. I fixed that problem, and managed to finish a couple of things here at the tail-end of the month!

First up is this X-23 bust. It's one of those busts with arms, but there's also an armless version for those who don't want to subject themselves to printing parts that need to fit together!

Second one I'm finishing up is a Skeletor re-imagination that I will release tomorrow or the day after (preview at bottom of post).

As you can tell things are a bit hectic, so I'm going to wrap it up here. Thank you all for your continued support! I hope you are doing well, and I'll see you again in a day or two!

Release: The Batman (... Patman..? No?)

👉👉 CLICK HERE FOR DOWNLOAD LINKS 👈👈

Hello, gang!

Robert Pattinson Batman checking in, or as my work folder says: The Patman. Been trying to squeeze as much detailing into this one as possible, so make sure you zoom all the way into the images so it will all be worth it... :P In the upcoming releases I probably won't do quite as much detailing, because in the end a lot of that detail is going to be lost and, well, I get a bit obsessive about the details.

Printing instructions

There's 3 versions. Only version A should require supports, because it's mainly a resin version and, well, we usually put down supports for those, right?

Version A

  • Best suited for resin printers because there's not a uniform print surface at the bottom. It's made to be raised off the plate using supports. The only difference is the "V cut" which makes it looks a bit nicer, but you are really not missing out on much by printing the B version.

Version B

  • This one is primarily for FDM printers because it has a big flat bottom surface area.

Version C

  • Just the head, for those who want to print bigger and get all the facial details like the stubble visible.

Everything is neatly divided into folders so you know what to print. The heads of versions A and B are interchangeable an are thus marked as "AB" to indicate this.

All heads come in three versions:

_CC (concave)

  • Traditional sculpture eyes where the iris is "scooped" out.

_CV (convex)

  • Smooth eyeballs that are suited for those of you who wish to paint the irises, or just like the look better.

_Lenses

  • Just lenses that cover the eyeholes.

In conclusion

I feel I've been spending a bit too much time on this one making this month a bit more about quality than quantity. For next month I will see if I can't find a better balance between the two. I'm not going to lie, I see the most successful 3D printable STL Patreons out there churn them out like they have a personal sweatshop in their basement and it makes me question my approach a bit.

How do you lovely people feel about it? Is it a waste of time working too much on a single piece, creating diminishing returns? Right now I'm leaning a bit towards "yeah, maybe" but I'd love to hear your input down in the comments! Don't forget to smash that like button, subscribe, and ring that bell! KEKW... ohgodkillmenow.

Preview: The Batman

Dropping a preview of what is coming up next. Finishing up a bust of the Robert Pattinson Batman from the upcoming The Batman movie by Matt Reeves. Nearly there, but all the detailing is taking a bit of time (maybe not entirely necessary to place each stubble hair individually, but here we are). I'm basically at the part where I'm ready to start on the base, which normally doesn't take a lot of time, so you should have him on/in your printers before too long!

Hope you all are doing well!

SWAMP THING bust + detailed head

UPDATE: DETAILED HEAD

The new detailed head is now available via the download link above, I spent some extra time getting it right and making a new base for it. Should be sweet for those with a larger resin printer, and  those who feel adventurous with FDM 💖

Hello! Running a bit late with this one and I have to be up for work in four hours, so I'm just going to throw this guy out here without much fanfare. Sorry, Swamp Thing! 😅

This one is pretty simple, and if you print him using regular plastic slinger printer you should just have to plop him on the printer and get going without any supports. Just make sure you have some infill on the main part since it's got quite a few internal floating islands!

I also started working on a bit more detailed version of the head that I haven't finished just yet, which should be fun for resin printers. I'll drop it in the OneDrive tomorrow (today? Monday!) afternoon/evening GMT time.

Hope you all had a good weekend! Don't be stupid like me, get some gosh darn sleep...

GORDON FREEMAN bust

Half-Life 3 confirmed? No, sorry, that's a tired joke. We all gave up hoping a long while ago. Or did we..? Either way, here's the Gordon Freeman bust I've been wanting to make for a good while now, but had held off because of the glasses being tedious to make printable. After Commissioner Jim Gordon I think I figured it out, so I decided to take a more serious stab at it.

Print info

First, I unfortunately don't have a Lychee slicer file with supports for this one yet. I'm waiting for a replacement duct fan so I can print in resin without stinking out the apartment, and haven't had the opportunity to test print it yet.

Second, you might want to add some supports along the back of his head. It shouldn't be strictly necessary, but if you are a seasoned printer of things you can make that decision for yourself :)

If you are on a Prusa this is how I'd lay it out to print it at 100%:

In conclusion

I want to thank you all for your continued support during what is undoubtedly a bit of a slow time on my part. There's been a few messages this week that more or less demand I get off my lazy ass and start putting out STLs, like I'm some sweatshop, and those are always a bit of a kick in the gut to receive. I assure you it's not me being lazy, it's me having to prioritize certain things over the Patreon, things that unfortunately have to take precedence.

At some point soon I hope I can do this 100% full time, but as currently the main provider of my family, for reasons that are a bit personal to go into, I can't responsibly quit my job at the nursing home yet, even though I've dropped my hours to 50%.

So again, thank you for those who stick around to support me in all of this. I hope you enjoy the print, stay healthy both of body and mind, and keep hydrated!

OMNI-MAN

Hello! I hope you are all doing well, and are able to get those vaccine shots. Being a healthcare worker I was lucky enough to get my first stab of the Pfizer one a month ago, while otherwise many people in my age bracket here in Norway are still waiting for it. I'm looking forward to shot no. 2 because I hear that one can really kick your ass! I take the flu shot every year, though, and it always kicks my ass so I'm used to it :)

Anyways, on to what everyone is here for, the release. I'm sure no one's even reading these intros anyway, and jump straight to the images! I don't blame you, who's got time to read anyway these days? I should release these Patreon posts as podcast episodes instead, or something.

Anyways, let's try that again. The release!

Omni-Man. I've spoken to a few of you already about it, because I've been getting requests left and right about this Invincible character, and that Invincible character. I've been waiting a long time now for the show to get released so I could start sculpting them without 99% of people going "who's invincible?" and I do plan to sculpt most of the characters at one point or another, because they are all basically pretty damn awesome.

Printing information

So this one can be a bit tricky if you choose to print the version with the arms. I made versions with a longer and shorter cape, and also a simplified version that prints very easily on FDM without any external supports at all, but if you want to go with the version with arms I think the only way to do it is to put the whole thing on supports.

Capes complicate matters, and super heroes shouldn't have them, they are just stupid and suck in a really bad way.

For the resin crowd I have included a Lychee Lite (.lyt) file with supports for the longer cape version, but it pretty much filled my Mono X from top to bottom, and the supports are way overkill because I was terrified of the print failing, so I don't really recommend using it! Most likely you will want to pick the shorter cape version and add your own supports to that one!

The base comes in both one solid piece, and a three part version which might be of use if you want to print the parts at an angle.

I hope you are all doing well. I've got some more detailed sculpts in the pipeline coming up, so keep an eye out for that next time!

GANDALF bust

>> CLICK HERE FOR DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS <<

First, a quick printing horror anecdote (can be skipped)

Those of you with a resin printer, have you ever printed something without the screws on the resin vat? First time I printed this Gandalf I was in a rush to start the print before I left for my shift at work. 9 hours later I come back and find the vat, full with resin, stuck to the build plate, suspended maybe 150mm above the Mono X LCD screen. I looked at it for a few seconds, thinking, "this doesn't look right..." until my mind reached that "OH SHIT!" moment.

Fortunately no damage done, and the fep sheet is fully intact, but it makes me wish these cheap(ish) Chinese printers would tell you when you are about to so obviously f up :D

Anyways, a Gandalf bust has materialized!

Second, yes, a hat would have been nice, but alas, it was not meant to be. Apologies! 😓

Printing info, FDM

He comes in 2 main parts. Bust, and base. Neither of which require external supports when printed on FDM. You just plop it down, make sure the infill supports any internal floating geometry (most importantly the hood at the back), and print. The base can probably be printed without any infill at all, if so inclined.

Printing info, resin

I'm continuing the experiment with providing Lychee Slicer Lite Scene (*.lyt) files with supports. This time at 100%, which should be good for larger printers like the Mono X, and also at 50% and 57% which fit smaller printers like the Phrozen Sonic Mini.

The 100% one I have test printed myself, and it resulted in a successful print on my Mono X (when you actually screw the resin vat in place first..), but I just want to be clear, and I'm putting it in bold just because it's important:

These pre-supported files don't guarantee a successful print. There's too many variables (resin type, printer, temperatures, etc) to take into account, so please use them for what they are meant to be: a time saver. Always use your own previous experience and look through the supports, hollowing, and holes settings. Add some if you think there's too few, remove some if you think it's excessive.

Make sure you have all the .stl files downloaded. When you open one of the .lyt files it will most likely give you an error message. This is normal. You just have to point Lychee to the .stl file. In the picture below it asks for *_eyesCC, but you can also choose the *_eyesCV if you want to print that version.

With the 50/57% versions I haven't parented and added braces to the supports. You might want to do that before printing after you have made any adjustments. (I unfortunately can't provide technical support for the slicer, but Lychee has a very active Discord for help with these things, and also some informative videos on their YouTube channel.)

Edit: Oh yeah, I prefer to print the base directly on the build plate, and I've added a couple of pressure relief holes to do so. If you want to do otherwise, feel free do do what you think is best :)

Aaaaand...

That's all for now, I think? Yeah, that's about it. I hope you all are doing great. I've spent a little bit more time in the Discord lately, and it's fun chatting with you guys! Stay safe and healthy, both in body in mind, and I'll see you next time!

INVINCIBLE (Mark Grayson) bust

>> CLICK HERE FOR DOWNLOAD LINK <<

(Note: This one comes experimentally pre-supported and hollowed for bigger resin printers, look further below for more information.)

The Invincible comic is great and has many amazing characters. Easily in the top 3 of my all time favourites, and I've spoken to a few of you who are even bigger fans, so I know there will be some who will appreciate this release :) I'll be honest, I haven't dared to watch the TV series yet because I'm terrified it won't live up to the comics!

This one comes in two versions: one more complex with arms, and one simplified, because I know not everyone want to mess around with supports and multiple keyed parts.

The keyed version's arms could be a bit tricky to print on an FDM printer. Since it's a long thin piece it can easily get knocked over, so you might want to enable z-hop in your slicer so the chance of knocking it over will be lowered. You might also want to add extra supports around it to create a bit more volume and stability overall, like I have done below (shown using support enforcer volumes in Prusa Slicer):

The body parts also needs some support under the deltoids:

Pre supported for bigger resin printers like the Mono X

I'm trying something new with this release, and I'm not sure it's going to work great, so consider this an alpha thing! I'm adding a pre-supported and hollowed Lychee Slicer Lite Scene file (lychee_supports.lyt) with the body and arms. When loading the file it might tell you the files are missing, so just select the corresponding .stl files that you need to have downloaded, and hopefully it will work! At this point I have no idea if it will require a Lychee Pro license for this to work (please leave feedback in comments or in Discord if that is the case), but that's a great investment anyway if you are doing resin printing.

Again, this is quite untested, but I figured it might help some of you out there! I am still very new at adding supports for resin printers and tend to overdo it (I did less this time), but these worked for me on my Mono X, as you can see below:

Man, this was a lot to take in, I hope it all works well for you!

I have to rush off to work, so if there's any issues I'll look at them in about 10 hours or so. Stay healthy and safe out there! :)

DARKSEID

>> CLICK HERE FOR DOWNLOAD LINK <<

So this here Darkseid guy is an easier print than the two previous releases since there are only two pieces (back to basics) that should print fine without supports (unless you print in resin). Of course if you know your printer is notoriously bad with overhangs it wouldn't hurt to put some supports under his jawline :)

This time around I didn't take any pictures of my resin print because frankly I was both disgusted and embarrassed by how I had done the supports as I was trying out something new. Just to paint you a picture, try imagining some idiot placing a support every 1 mm or so on the entire flat surface and then having them almost fusing together, resulting in me spending 20 minutes hacking away at them with flush cutters and knives. The eagle eyed observer can see a crack that have been fixed with glue and baking soda...

Shudder.

Have fun printing! I have to get back to finishing up the next one (which will be related to a certain TV show that will be premiering this Friday (I'm so bloody excited)).

RELEASE: Black Widow Bust (with arms, again)

>> CLICK HERE FOR DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS <<

Black Widow of Marvel fame. There's some light Scarlett Johansson resemblance in this, but I was honestly not going for that this time around, but a more generic comic book look! It's funny how your subconscious plays a part sometimes.

Notes about printing

She comes in 3 pieces. One of the hands comes as a separate piece, and requires supports. The body part also requires some supports under her elbow. I tried a lot of tricks to avoid supports, but they all looked very awkward. I have provided a screenshot from Prusa Slicer which has the supports paint feature, where I have demonstrated where I would put them for easiest printing.

Unfortunately this time around I wasn't able to run proper test prints on FDM, because the extruder of my Prusa clogged up solidly while printing a 100mm fan duct (don't ask...), and no cold pulls or acupuncture needles have worked, and I haven't had time to disassemble the extruder to fix it. The resin version worked out well, though, and the key area required a little bit of sanding to fit properly, so I'm optimistic!

Final notes

I figured I would end with a little sneak peek of something I'm working on in the background. A bit of a bigger project that is still rather early in its development, and definitely needs some more time and careful consideration, so I can't say exactly when it will be released. Excited about doing something like this, though, even if I'm really dreading the engineering that will be required!

Hope everyone has had a great, short February. I can't thank you all enough for your support, and many thanks for all the wonderful messages of supports I have received. It means a lot :)

A litte house-cleaning

Posts like these are always difficult for me to write, because it means opening up to a lot of people I don't really know all that well, or at all. Considering I'm a very private person who find it difficult to open up to even those closest to me, it's extra difficult.

These past months I have been very lacking in communicating with you all, both on Discord and Patreon messages, and my "social media presence" has been zero. This is of course not great when you run a Patreon, and have a lot of people with a lot of questions, and you end up with a bunch of people wondering what's going on, why I'm not talking.

Now, when I become very stressed and things start piling up, I tend to retreat into myself as a self preservation tactic. I check my email less and less frequently, I disable "Start on boot" in Discord, and gradually I slowly start to fade away into my own obscurity.

Which is great. For a little while.

Then it starts to add even more stress, because now I start to stress about not being around to answer questions, or friends getting annoyed because I'm no longer around, and I'm suddenly in this vicious circle of retreating deeper and deeper while at the same time stressing more and more about it.

It takes a lot of conscious effort for me to snap out of this vicious circle, but I am now finally at that point, and... while I'm writing this I look to the left of my screen and see way too many unread Patreon messages that need to be answered and I again start to feel the anxiety building up as pressure across my chest. Enough is enough, though :D

So I want to apologise to you all for not having been a great Patreon host lately, but I hope to get back on track, and while this post isn't written to gather sympathy from you all, it is here to apologise, and to help me get back on track and keep me accountable to my own words.

What happens now? I'll take a look at those messages, reply to the ones that look most urgent right now, and get back to working on finishing up the next release. February is a short month!

Thank you for sticking around, and I hope you all have more productive coping mechanisms for handling stress than I do.

SNIKT! Feb. 2021 RELEASE #1: Wolverine Bust

>> CLICK HERE FOR DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS <<

So this is one of those characters that really doesn't need any introduction. He's got a bit of an attitude problem and usually has a skeleton of adamantium, and claws (also adamantium) in his forearms that go SNIKT! when when they pop out from between his knuckles.

The biggest challenge and time sink with this one was the engineering, making him print ready, and doing test prints to make sure there weren't any embarrassing issues. One of the lessons I learned on this one was I should make the keys more unique for each part, because more than once I started gluing the wrong glove on the wrong arm... So be careful with that.

Print instructions

He comes in seven parts, and will require supports. In Prusa Slicer those were easy to place with the new support paint on feature. The image below shows how I placed the supports, which lead to a successful print. Note that I put the Z distance between supports and model at 0.2mm which made them break loose fairly easily. Just use a sharp little blade to clean up the resulting unevenness. I didn't have any issues putting the pieces together on the FDM prints, but with the resin one I had to do a bit sanding of the keys and the holes.

All the pieces fit on a normal Prusa bed, which isn't the biggest one out there:

Came out pretty well:

Wolverine not very happy about being glued:

Once healed up he proceeded to cut the resin version up thoroughly:

... who of course pulled himself together, quite literally:

In conclusion

I'll send out a separate message about some related things shortly after this one.

RELEASE: Captain America

>> Access the downloads here <<

So here we go, 78,544 ZBrush crashes later (I honestly do not think I am exaggerating much here) I can finally drop this one in your laps like a newly born baby orc covered in (green?) afterbirth. In other words, hot off the presses. Watch your step.

It's a Cap! I've always wanted to make a new version of one of my earliest sculpts for 3D printing, which was Captain America. I decided with this one to take a bit more extreme route and give him a bit more heavily armoured suit, with flight capabilities. I know, he's a super soldier, but he's still made out of meat and bones and being able to fly is kind of fun, right..?

Despite all the crashes and a lot of dirty meshes (so many...) I had to clean up before turning it into a printable STL, this one was actually a lot of fun to work on!

So I hope you enjoy it, and you've had a good weekend!

January 2021 Release #1: Sinestro Bust

>> Click here for download instructions <<

Hello! 2021, yay 👍

After some usual delays --

(mainly being my Wacom stylus broke and I had to wait for a new one to ship from Germany - these things seem to last roughly 2 years for me, on the day - I actually got a spare one this time around so I won't be caught with my pants down like this again)

-- it is time for the first release of 2021: one Thaal Sinestro, the leader of the Sinestro Corps, or the Yellow Lantern Corps, if you prefer. I've been trying to stay off the internets lately, and this has lead to me reading too much comics , which has re-ignited my love for this morally ambiguous purple-ish guy, and I wanted to make my own take on him.

As usual there's a few versions. Minor ones, this time. Two different sets of eyes as per normal, one for those who like to paint the eyes their way, and one for those (like me) who prefer the sculpted iris look:

There's also a bigRing version better suited for those who don't want to, or have the ability, to print tiny details in resin. Was experimenting a bit with this and the bigger version should print fine at 100% on FDM.

Because this is a "one armed bandit" kind of bust, there's unfortunately one arm that you are going to need to support with supports, as shown in the picture below. I played around a bit with 2.3.0 of PrusaSlicer and apparently you can now paint on supports, which is quite the nice feature!

Now, time to mask up and head to the store for the weekly grocery run, and then it's time to finish up a new Captain America to get ready for release in the next few days! Told you, too many comic books...

Hope you all are doing well :)

RELEASE: Ahsoka Tano. Happy Hoildays!

>> DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS IN THIS POST. CLICK HERE.  <<

As I outlined in my previous post, I am taking this month off, and the plan was to release a remaster of my barbarian bust as a holiday gift to you guys and gals, but that plan changed and I instead decided to make Ahsoka Tano, as portrayed by Rosario Dawson in The Mandalorian episode The Jedi.

That was just such a badass episode...

She isn't 100% screen accurate. I've taken some liberties, adding and removing a few things as I saw fit, maybe even buffed her up a little bit extra. She comes in four versions, depicted below. Technically 16 versions because each comes in four versions of mesh density (500k, 1000k, 1500k, 2000k) so your slicer doesn't have to process the heavier 2 million triangle mesh unnecessarily if you are printing on an FDM printer.

She should be able to be printed without supports, but as always you should know your own printers capabilities and adapt accordingly. Unfortunately I can't provide general printing help how to add supports and when to do it, but there's a lot of good resources out there for that kind of stuff!

So, happy holidays to everyone! Hope this printable sculpt will find you all well and safe. I have to be up and leave for work in 6 hours, so as soon as I post this I will head to bed and grab some sleep. If something is broken I won't be able to deal with it too quickly, but I will once I get back home from work 😅

December pause + Christmas gift + sandpaper

Here we go again

Hello! It's me again, the guy who has a habit of pausing his Patreon. I wonder if I should just make my Patreon a bi-monthly thing at this point... 😅

Due to exceptionally poor management of my time this month (yes, playing a bit too much Assassin's Creed Valhalla might be one of the reasons...) I was not able to make any significant progress on the December releases, so I will suspend payments for December.

Christmas gift

I know not everyone celebrates Christmas, but I do, and I figured while there won't be any payments pulled from your accounts in December, I do want to give you a little something anyway, just as a token of my appreciation, delivered next month.

It will be a remaster of the very first model I made specifically for 3D printing, that I printed myself as a test but never released to the public in a proper way. A barbaric warrior, of sorts, gripping his faithful double headed axe. I'm currently working on turning him into something I can be proud of, and that you guys might have fun printing.

In short

  • I properly mismanaged my time this month, so:
  • This month's (November 2020) active/paying patrons won't pay anything for next month (December 2020).
  • You will receive a remastered version of the barbarian pictured above anyway next month.

Oh, and...

... aside from today carrying two (cat-ruined) sofas out from, and then two (used, but not cat-ruined) sofas into, my tiny flat today, this has been a not insignificant part of my Saturday. This was not fun. In fact, it was a terrible experience, and a certain 3D printer manufacturer should be decently ashamed.

I'm now off to spend the rest of today consuming unhealthy amounts of off-brand Cola, eating a significant amount of chocolate cake, maybe an entire pipe of Pringles (original flavour) and catching up on The Mandalorian and Star Trek Discovery. If I'm still alive tomorrow I will work on the barbarian.

Until next time; stay safe, healthy, and hang in there. Things will be better. Bye for now!

NOVEMBER 2020 RELEASES

Edit: Fixed the Red Hood stl file! It was missing the .stl suffix which confused things.

So, here we go. The November 20202 Releases. Later than promised, but at this point you should expect nothing less!

First a quick rundown of this month's theme: For those who don't know, these are, or have previously been, Batman's sidekick Robin. The Boy Wonder. I know everyone of these people have pretty much been in everyone else's costumes and taken on their personas at some point or another, but I'm sticking with the main guys for this one.

Damian Wayne

In the middle there's Damian Wayne, who's Batman's biological son, but raised by The League of Assassin's, turning him into a troubled big-headed young man with a penchant for killing, which doesn't sit well with daddy Batman who we all know frowns upon such things, and sticks to the much better alternative of simply maiming and crippling.

(You will need to place supports under his arms and hands. Put him on the slicer table it will become evident where they need to go, but otherwise he's good to go!)

Nightwing

To the left is Dick Grayson, also known as Nightwing, who shouldered the first mantle of Robin, but later outgrew the role and took on the persona of Nightwing.

Red Hood

And lastly to the right, we have Red Hood, and under the hood, we have Jason Todd who got his brain bashed in by the Joker, aaaand... you know what, just forget it, there's just too much lore around all these guys. He's basically pissed off with Batman most of the time, and he shoots people with guns, and is all around seriously messed up from a bunch of trauma.

So there we go! This month's releases released. I hope they are fun prints! Going to jump back into working on next month's releases right away which will have a bit more original content this time around, just to balance the pure fan art nature of this month!

Thank you for sticking around, and I hope you are all doing well. I will see you in the next one! 🧐

As promised, here's the Halloween Bundle

Many of you probably have this one from last year, but here it is again this year! It will be up throughout October, but I'll probably forget to take it down in November.

Oh #1, and the Elven Assassin will be up for grabs this month as well because I haven't had time to test print it to put it up on MyMiniFactory 🙄

Oh #2, the patron only 50% discount coupon code on MyMiniFactory had vanished, but it's back up again.

Oh #3, the Patron Zone is back up again. Apparently the, uh, domain had expired because of, uh, an... expired credit card, and also some other, uh, things broke...

Updated download instructions for October

First, thank you all for the well wishes :) Taking a month off Patreon and also having some time off my day job has had a positive effect. I have been going for daily long walks (finding out just how out of shape I really am in those hills...) and trying not to spend too much time in front of my PC.

Now, if you are an existing patron from last month, you have probably had some issues downloading files. Please take a look at the updated download instruction page for information about this:

Updated download instructions

Hope you are all doing well. I'm starting work on November releases now. Still a bit early to reveal anything as nothing is set in stone, but stay tuned :)

Hitting the pause button for October

Hello! Unfortunately I'm going to have to hit the pause for October (reasons below).

You who have been around for a while know how this works:

1. Existing Patrons (that means you, if you can read this) won't be charged any money on October 1st.
2. If you have cancelled this month, you will of course also not be charged, but please note I will put my Halloween bundle up for free again this year, next month.
3. I'll be back with new stuff in November.

Reasons

I know people are curious, and while I am a private person I feel I owe at least some explanation. I'm not in a great place at the moment, mentally, which I am sure many of you can relate to. Mental health issues in general is as much a global pandemic as any virus is at the moment.

Without going into details, there's just a bit too much going on in my immediate and extended family right now, and I haven't been able to do anything creative when I sit down in front of my workstation. Throughout the day I constantly catch myself clenching my jaw muscles, holding my breath, having then to force myself to relax my body and just breathe.

So, instead of half-assing an October release I'm going to take the rest of September off Patreon, pausing payments for October so you guys don't pay for nothing, and see if I can't get my head on straight enough to be back in action for November.

Take care of yourselves, listen to your bodies, and don't forget to breathe. Thank you for lending me your time, and I'll keep you updated when I have more to say :)

RELEASE: SEPTEMBER 2020: Luke, Cyclops, Assassin.

 >> Click here for download instructions <<

Here they are. Lots of headaches with this release that I won't bore you with, but right about now I could do with a spa weekend... 😅

Thank you for your continued patience, and support :) ❤

NOTE: I'm currently trying out "something new" with the back end of the PATRON ZONE, so if you are experiencing issues specifically downloading the files, please drop me a PM here on Patreon, or @ me on Discord. Thanks!

ELVEN ASSASSIN

This elven assassin has a lot of microdetails that I normally don't do, which will be fun for the resin printer crowd out there! As with all my original designs this will be a limited design available here on Patreon this month only, and afterwards will be available for sale on my store at MyMiniFactory, so please download him now!

Two parts, shouldn't have a need for supports, but use your own discretion and knowledge of your own printer because all printers aren't created equal.

CYCLOPS (X-MEN)

Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops. Quite often known as the boring responsible X-Men member, but as I start to get older I'm starting to realise he has to deal with that asshole Logan on a regular basis and that can't be easy, so he has my respect these days!

Again. Two parts, shouldn't have a need for supports, but--again--use your own discretion and knowledge of your own printer because--again--all printers aren't created equal! ☝

LUKE SKYWALKER

Here's Luke Skywalker who has cause me so much headaches finishing up. At first I wanted to make Luke from Return of the Jedi, but then I figured that has already been done, so I decided to make a more unique alternate version. Being the idiot I am I decided I wanted this one to have switch-out heads variants, and a lightsaber with or without the light beam projected.

Both the heads and the body require some supports, as you can see below. I highly recommend printing these with supports as shown below in the animated GIFs, since I have  had actual success when doing so.

A WORD ABOUT SCALE

I have tested the fittings of the keys at different scales. At 100% it works well, of course, but I realise he is very 100%, so you might want to scale him down a bit. At 75% the keys also fit very well, but if you print at 50% you might have to do a little bit of sanding!

REGARDING THE LIGHT SABER

There are two busts. The easiest is the one with no lightbeam extended.

Just remember if you print the lightbeam you need to put a proper brim on it, or it will probably get knocked over when printing.

There are three lengths of the lightsaber. The medium one seems to have the best length, but you can print the small one if you're having trouble printing a longer object.

Here's just a few pictures of me putting test printing and putting everything together:

SEPTEMBER 2020 PREVIEW

Hello! It's the end of August, so it's time for a preview of what is up for next month :)

Hopefully everyone's had a decent August, watched some Star Trek: Lower Decks (which has grabbed hold of me from episode 1), and maybe even read some recently released Batman: the Three Jokers, which looks extremely promising and issue #2 can't come soon enough!

I've also started listening to a new (to me) book series by a guy called Joel Shepherd, which is named The Spiral Wars, with the first book being Renegade. It's right up my alley being a pulp-y space opera story about a starship on the run, much like other series like The Frontiers Saga by Ryk Brown, or Craig Alanson's Expeditionary Force books. Good stuff. Always makes me want to model some starships. Audiobooks are always great company when I sit down to do some sculpting since they don't tend to distract me too much!

Let's move on to the meat of the post! These are mostly done, so they will be released in the beginning of September. Most likely in the 2nd to 5th of September space!

Elven Hunter

First up is some original content. This grumpy old Elven hunter covered in scars. Mostly self inflicted scarrification to provide some wards carved into his skin, because he hunts some pretty nasty things using magic, and such nonsense.

Luke Skywalker

I was first going to make Luke from Return of the Jedi, but ended up going my own way instead. I might still go the RotJ way, but sometimes, even though you make fan art, you really just want to put your own twist on things. This one is planned to have switchable heads, with a standard Luke head, a more mature bearded one, and I suppose one with a pornstache..? 🤔

He is mostly done, I just need to get the engineering right since there will be a lot of pegs that need to have the right sizes.......

Cyclops

And finally a Cyclops. Not much to say about him. Still got a little quick work left on him. I know, Cyclops it's the most popular X-Men member, and not exactly Wolverine class, but he's a solid guy, and deserves a spot on the shelves!

And that's about it! I think? Yeah, pretty much. Thank you for your time, and have a continued good weekend!

RELEASE: AUGUST 2020: Scorpion, Commissioner Gordon, Doctor Doom.

>> Click here for download instructions <<

Phew. Okay, better late than never 😅 Finally ready to release these! I'll keep brief for a change!

SCORPION

Should be able to be printed without any supports, but as always, know your printer since they are not all the same :)

COMMISSIONER JAMES GORDON

Gordon's glasses needs a bit of support on the upper rims. Was trying to make it work supportless without compromising the design too much. If you want to give it a try without supports I have included an overhang test version which will let you easily try that without risking much time or filament.

DOCTOR DOOM

Should not need any supports, but apply your own discretion and knowledge of your own printer.

Good luck printing! Thank you for your continued support :) I'll get back to you a bit later this month with what is coming up next!

Stay safe out there!

AUGUST 2020 PREVIEW

I hope you are all well out there. Here's a little preview of what is up for next month's release.

These should be released on August 2nd, 2020. Possible a day later since I'm not entirely done with the engineering to make them 100% printable, and this is a long working three-day-weekend for me with a couple of long grueling evening shifts involving some pretty heavy patients, so while I should have the time, I might honestly not have the energy to finish it until Monday.

SCORPION

My favourite Mortal Kombat character since I first played it in the early 90's as an easily impressionable teenager. I decided to make a sculpt after having read some of the Mortal Kombat comics.

I also tested out my Phrozen Sonic Mini with him, which turned out pretty well. He printed fast. Perhaps a bit too fast since there's some lines there that I hopefully can eliminate going forward.

For those curious I was using Phrozen Model Aqua Green at 0.05 mm layers with 1.5s per layer. He's 80mm tall and it took 4.5 hours to print. Fun stuff!

JAMES GORDON

Everyone's favourite police commissioner. Been wanting to make him for a while, but the glasses always were a bit intimidating to make printable. I think I've sorted that problem out without sacrificing too much, but I still have some finishing touches left!

DOCTOR DOOM

Our favourite, uh, Latverian? I'll admit I wasn't always a big fan of Doctor Doom, but the more issues I read with him in the stories, the more I like him as a character.

--

So that's what's up for next month! I was going to have a fourth release, but I ran out of time. July has been pretty crazy with some interesting ongoing family issues, and an influx at work of long time-care patients who are both mentally and physically demanding, meaning as soon as I get home I mostly just wish to lie down and rest my head and body. I'm pleasantly surprised I am able to deliver these three sculpts :)

I hope they fall into your taste, and a big thank you for your ongoing support! I'll post when these are ready to download.

Have a good one!

"Mr. Belz" and "Orc Reaver" available for download again

Hello!

Quick one.

Due to popular demand (me getting messages about it), and me still not having put them up for sale, I have put "Mr. Belz" and "Orc Reaver" back as available to download for all Supporter tier patrons for the rest of the month.

Please make sure you have downloaded them before the end of the month (July), and please do keep the files at a safe place. I'm uploading them to the store right now, and starting next month (August) that will be the only place to get them at, and I can't keep making exceptions :)

The Halloween sculpts will be back when we're getting closer to Halloween.

The files can be found at the normal place in the PATRON ZONE.

Instructions how to access the PATRON ZONE here for those who forgot.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

July 2020 RELEASES

Downloads (important)

This is important, since payments are no longer suspended I can go back to using THE PATRON ZONE for downloads, and put OneDrive back in the closet. You log in using your Patreon account, and then once logged in you will have access to the downloads! If you experience any issues with this, please drop me PM here on Patreon. Detailed instructions how it works here.

Blah blah blah, blah blah, blah

So this month we've got some (more or less) super heroes and one villain. Let's first talk about eyes, though.

I've not been inconsistent with this, but from now on when there's a character with normal eyes I will release one version with the iris sculpted, and one with a blank eyeball, to give those of you who paint more options.

The image below illustrates what I'm talking about, and the file names will have either "cc" or "cv" to show which version is which. Better double check the model first though since there's so many file names to keep track of I might sometimes mis-label them...

Some quick notes on the sculpts

Batgirl shouldn't need any supports, but if you know your printer handles overhangs really poorly you can add some under her chin.

Evil Superman from the Injustice comic/game universe. No supports required.

A generic HULK doesn't need supports to print.

The HULK has a "HD" version where I've added a bunch of pores and microdetails, which I normally don't do because I'm generally not a huge fan. To get it to look really genuine you have to spend so much time on it, so I'm releasing it as an alternate version. Personally I'd stick with the normal version :)

Final words

Feels good to be back :) Thank you all for your continued support, and I hope you'll all enjoy printing these, and let's see what we can come up for the next release!

Stay safe and classy!

(Now let's see what happens when I press "publish". I'm not supposed to have access to internet because my ISP is doing maintenance right now, so if this all disappears I'm going to be a bit upset... 😅)
