Have the first guy animated, the shot is going to pan upward and reveal another tank and RPG weilding soldier who is on higher up. Now to animate them.

Finished the background, now to animate the rocket launcher soldier in the foreground moving from right to left past the tank.

Sketched the background for the shot. Tank from the previous shot can be seen in the lower left, from the lower right a rocket launcher soldier with walk to the left and as the camera pans up we'll see another tank emerge from the left edge of the cliff and another soldier at the peak of the top right. But first, gotta draw the background. Let's go.

Finally done with this shot, next we'll focus on two rocket launch wielding soldiers and another tank emerging from an adjacent cliff. I'll post a thumbnail sketch tomorrow. Trust me, this will all make sense. or not.

It's getting there. Still need to animate it coming over the crest of the cliff and then a few frames of it coming to a stop and then I can put this together with the soldier from a few posts ago. Back at it tomorrow.

Based on the Olifant Mk1B Optimum, an unproduced variant of the Olifant Mk1B, the African Elephant. Now to animate the bastard craning over the cliff in reverse so it can then animate forward. Plus, I need to add the crushed tree beneath it. Back to work.

Animated him into the shot, now to draw and animate the tank entering view from the background ridge after following a top left pan to its position. Let's go.

A soldier in the scene I'm currently making is based on one of many Rogue Coyote designs from the MGSV art book. Now to animate him.

Finished the background, now to animate the solider entering frame. Yeah, not much to add, really. Until next time.

Background for the next shot. The border in the lower right corner is where the shot will begin with the soldier from the previous shot approaching us into the foreground. From there the camera will pan to the upper left with a tank entering the composition and crushing the single standing tree. Still need to finish this background before I do any of that, obviously.

I know I said I was going to take a break, but I had to get this shot done. Also it seems you were all charged on the 5th but I'm guessing that's an automatic thing Patreon does because I didn't do that, so sorry. I may start charging again once the lockdown over here is over in a few weeks. As for the next shot, it will be a close up of this particular soldier as a tank comes driving over the horizon and into frame. Better get to it.
2020-04-09 06:56:58 +0000 UTC View PostI was due to see an optometrist Wednesday last week but because of the country lockdown they were closed, in fact all are closed. So I ended up seeing my GP the following day and according to him he thinks I either have minor vitreous bleeding or it's a macular layer change. When or if this lockdown is over I'll need to see an optometrist to get an OCT check to rule out if it's macular disease, but that won't be for another month, hopefully this thing doesn't get any worse. I've also been hav...

I've finally animated Metal Gear for this shot. The details don't loop 100% correctly but because he's going to be so small it won't be noticed. Still need to animate dust clouds and then I'll move onto animating the tank which will enter the shot from the right.
2020-03-27 09:11:27 +0000 UTC View PostIn my country it's been announced we're going on lockdown for the next 4 weeks starting Wednesday. I've decided that all completed animation by me for the foreseeable future will be free of charge as I know we're all going through this together. One step at a time, my friends.
2020-03-23 02:30:40 +0000 UTC View PostOver the past week I've been having problems with my right eye, there's a blotch in my vision that makes it difficult to see where my depth perception is off and is causing headaches. People online have been giving me all these links to articles guessing what it might be but my answer to all of this is - I don't know. I'm seeing a specialist on Wednesday to see what's going wrong with me but it's made it hard to look at screens, this includes my day job, but I've been pushing on with the anim...

The background is essentially finished, the idea with this shot is Metal Gear will be in the distance to the left walking toward us and the camera will pan right where a tank will come rolling over the rocks, but before it actually makes it over the shot will end, cutting to the next shot with a front view of the tank aiming it's camera dead center. Now to animate Metal Gear's walking loop. Back to work.

I've decided to redo the entire shot, I wasn't happy with the last one as it just felt flat and didn't get across the sense of scale, so drawing this up will keep me busy over the weekend. Back to work.

Haven't drawn in Metal Gear yet but this is from a higher view with the edge of a cliff in the bottom right corner, may make it pan separately to differentiate it from the background. Still need to do some touch ups with this though, may need to make the cloud shadows a bit darker but once they're in motion they'll be noticable. As I said in a previous post I'm new to this whole outdoors thing but perhaps I'm overthinking it and when it's all in motion everything will come together.

Finally done with this shot. Next we'll move onto a wide shot watching Metal Gear approach from a distance with a tank emerging in the foreground looking on. That's right, before Metal Gear launches its nuke we're gonna watch it test its battle capabilities. I'll scribble out some composition thumbnails then we can get to work.

So I went back and redrew the background as it was far too saturated which clashed with the desaturated palette of Metal Gear itself.

Spent some time working on the background. I'm only experienced with industrial interiors so this is something new for me. I've taken inspiration from Akira Toriyama and Hasui Kawase. Now to apply the background to the actual animation and we can be done with the shot.

I've got a walk cycle down, now to add foreground elements then I'll move onto the background. This will eventually be made into a panning shot, moving from bottom to top. Better keep moving.

So I've drawn it up and now it's time to... *shudder*... animate it walking. This won't be easy but that's the point. I will get it into a walking loop and then I can move onto animating one of the tanks moving past the camera in the foreground. The idea is once the tank is out of the way the camera will pan up to get a clear profile shot of Metal Gear's cockpit. On with the show.

I know I haven't made an update in the past week. After finishing the assembly sequence I wanted to upload it here on Patreon but it doesn't seem like you can upload videos. As far as this new shot has been coming along, I'll be honest, it hasn't! I've actually been stumped, not with the scene itself and what it's supposed to accomplish, but how to introduce it.
Originally I was going to have a landscape vista panning to the right where Metal Gear would climb into frame. however I...

Managed to get this done before bed. May go back and remove some inbetween frames for added carttooniness on the Penguin but for now I'll start planning how to animate Metal Gear walking, and in the outdoors to boot. I'll start posting some thumbnail sketches of what I think I want and how I'll go about it, but for now... sleep.

Here's the little animation that will appear on Metal Gear's front monitor. There's no real purpose to this monitor other than to give a bit of character and charm to Metal Gear... even if it's about to launch a nuclear weapon. Also, Penta is saying "Meep-Meep". Anywho, back to work.
2020-02-13 04:24:26 +0000 UTC View Post
Added the background and lighting. Now to cut to the chase and get to the final shot of this sequence. The monitor will showcase Penta Penguin wearing an eyepatch and giving a salute as the Konami logo appears behind him. Let's go.

There was an older version of this where I animated the legs slightly to show them rotating upward but I felt having the shot start so low and then having to pan up to what is really the core focus of the moment meant that I ended up scrapping that component. Besides, anatomically there isn't that much more elevation Metal Gear needs to extend at this point so I'm thinking this will do. Next up I'll fill in the background then I can move onto the final shot of this entire sequence.

This will be yet another panning shot slowly moving upward, with Metal Gear getting further away from camera. I'll animate the cockpit guard closing in reverse followed by the front monitor switching on as Metal Gear has fully stood upright. The night is young, back to work.
2020-02-07 09:32:05 +0000 UTC View Post
Got this finished before the weekend's over so I'm a head of my own self-imposed schedule. For the next shot Metal Gear will finally be standing upright and after the cockpit shield has closed the monitor on the front will begin to switch on with the following shot being a closeup revealing the Konami logo appearing on screen. Atleast, the plan is for it to be a Konami logo but I might end up going with something else so its still subject to change. Anywho, onward.
