Extended Writing Update

We've got another 2,500 words added to Leas: Fae Moon Rising! It's slow going in the beginning these days, mostly because I've spun so many side plots and future things to lay groundwork for. I'm constantly checking my outline to make sure I'm incorporating everything, and I've reshuffled the order of a few moments multiple times. I'm also debating adding in some "flashback" scenes here and there, to kind of cover some of what MC experiences in the time skip. Not so much plot-related things b...

November content :)

Here's what to expect this month ~

  • The usual Sunday Extended Writing Updates (Citizen tier and up)

  • Apotheosis demo: Leas' second book will release its first alpha demo in December. In the meantime, the poll results are in and the overwhelming favorite was this! So you can look forward to designing your MC and meeting your fellow archaeologists in the town of Creek Hollow :D We'll also have our first meeting with the new ...

🎃 Happy Halloween! Flashpoint minigame is officially released 🎃

For those who are new, Flashpoint is a ~30k word minigame I've made for Halloween! It's set in our world, in a creepy little town in the woods. (Best of all, it features three kissable ROs ^.^).

You can play it here! :D It's pretty much the same as the final beta released to the Agent tier in previous months. I've added the art at the beginning + a few tw...

Extended Writing Update

This week's been spent in a bunch of different places at once! I worked on prepping Apotheosis, editing Flashpoint a little, and of course working on Leas book 2. It's coming along well, and I'm confident I'll have at least 15k words for its debut demo in December. I also got some preliminary art done for the eventual forum post. I'm deciding between three options, here they are:

Monthly Extra: Newsletter - Things I've Learned Writing a Hosted Game

Or something like it. I'm not sure I'm entirely clear on what a newsletter is, but in here you'll find some stuff on writing, some stuff on coding, and lots of stuff on my experience creating Leas: City of the Sun. Possibly a little infodumping too, it's hard for me to tell in this case 😂 Regardless, I hope it's an enjoyable read! (There's also a little snippet of writing in the first section, fy...

Keoanai Bonus Story: Prism Rain (male Keo)

"Keo, wake up!"

I'd normally let sleeping agents lie - Keo's just gotten back from the wilds and probably needs rest. The fact that he's fallen asleep on the window seat in my quarters is proof of that. But as I stare out at the scene beyond the opening behind him I gently shake his shoulder, knowing I can't let him miss this.

I feel him grab my hand the moment he rouses. I glance down, ...

A random little piece of lore

I just came up with a new world-of-Leas thing for one of the RO bonus stories, and I love it so much. It's called "prism rain." It's exactly what it sounds like: rain that contains little crystallized prisms inside each drop, so it's like it's raining little rainbows.

Worldbuilding is fun ^_^

Extended Writing Update

This was a good writing week for me.

I continue to be grateful for the grace you guys have shown me with the past month's bumps and bruises on my health. Not having to prep a demo for October has been a huge help to me getting back on my feet ❤️ I've gotten rest, and I'm set up to start some new treatments soon that I hope will have me in a better place in time. The experience as a whole has led to an interesting addition to the fae minigame. I've drafted the beginnings of a chapter...

Wren Bonus Story: Wind and Magic (nonbinary Wren)

"I think we're good to go," I call out, walking out to the front of my family's house. Wren and I stopped by to check on the wards this evening, and now the sun is well under the horizon. It gets cold around this time now that we're in Night season, and I shove my hands into my pockets as I go, wishing I'd brought a pair of gloves as my breath makes the faintest little cloud on the air, quickly snat...

Poll: Writing process content, yea or nay?

Since the early days of writing Leas' first book, I've kept a doc called "Things I've learned from writing a Hosted Game." It's exactly what it sounds like, and I created it originally for myself as a sort of diary, and a way to remind myself how to avoid pitfalls and celebrate successes.

I looked at it today and realized it might make a good monthly extra if I took a few hours to organize and edit it, but I only want to do that if people are interested. It'd be sort of a newsletter sty...

Extended Writing Update

I spent the whole week working on the assets for the game's marketing materials. I thought I had more done originally than I did, so it ended up being a lot of work >_< But the good news is it's pretty much done!

If you're curious about what it entails, the full list can be found here. But the tldr; is it's a lot of taglines for the game, larger descriptions, tons of...

November Alpha Demo Voting

I'm going to try and have a small demo of Leas' second game ready for December - sooner than I planned, but things are coming along faster than I expected.

For November I've got two demo options for us to choose between. They're very different, so here's a short summary of both:

Apotheosis: Play as an archaeologist in a small town. You moved here when a collection of rare artifacts was discovered unexpectedly. One thing leads to another, and you're quickl...

Extended Writing Update

I'm happy to say I'm slowly catching up after last month's bumps and bruises. Flashpoint is almost done, and I expect to launch the final update either tomorrow or Tuesday. Getting it there was enough work on its own for this week, but I also managed to deep clean my work area and get things set up a lot more comfortably. That's important for my process at this stage, because I'm hopping into formatting the game's art next. I've got the templates of my original design (thanks to the lovely Ha...

Book 2 Preview: Prologue (First Draft)

Text reads:

Prologue

A memory's a funny thing, when it doesn't belong to you.

That's what the Guide told me in my dreams, half a year ago.

I stare up at the lattice of magic above Leas. It sparkles in the morning sunshine, an ever-present fixture of the city that I'm no longer surprised to see. But it's different, this ...

When something goes so much better than I planned

I thought Flashpoint's ending might end up being a little unsatisfying, since when I thought of the story I always had it in my head as a longer game. But the ending I just wrote for it I actually love. It's so cute and fun and has a little shout-out to one of my favorite tv shows from growing up (10 points for anyone who gets the reference when it updates, lol).

It's not done yet - I wrote the ending before a bunch of the other to-do areas. But I made some good progress on it today. It...

Extended Writing Update + a little book 2 preview

I've started writing Book 2 in earnest ~

I wanted to outline more but with things the way they are, this helped me feel better and take my mind somewhere nice :) I've got about 3,500 words of it, and the pieces are beginning to fit together how I want.

There's a real sense of lightness to writing the early chapters of a story. You're not bogged down yet with trying to keep track of everything that's happened and making sure you don't accidentally let any minor plot threads slip th...

Update: L:CotS has been submitted to Hosted Games 🎉

The next step is content review, which to my understanding means that someone looks over the game to make sure there's nothing horribly offensive in it, and nothing that goes against the company's other guidelines. I don't expect any problems there. I've been told it's a somewhat slow process, but that I'll be kept informed on how things are progressing, which is great!

In the meantime there's some resources I need to get together: things like game descriptions of varying lengths...

Update on scheduling for September and October

I've been trying to get a monthly extra and Flashpoint's demo finished, but with my health this month it's just not going to happen 😢 So here's what I'm going to do for content:

September: Flashpoint is about 90% done. At the end of the month I'm going to release what I have, and make it available to Wilds tier and up, so it'll double as this month's extra and demo. When it's complete, I'll update it at the same link, so everyone who signed up for Septem...

A quick September scheduling announcement

This month's Monthly Extra will be delayed due to a health incident I had two days ago. I'm still recovering and unfortunately in no shape to do anything for the next week. There will also be no writing update this Sunday.

I hope you'll understand, and I'll do myb est to get content out again as soon as possible 🌻 ❤️
