WOW... it took way longer than I'd like to admit to get the fighting sequence in the first panel right. In the end, I employed a 3D model, and some photographic reference I took myself to get it right. Drawing characters intertwined in close proximity is never an easy task, but ultimately I was able to get something that I felt satisfied with.

Whew! So I ended up liking this page a whole lot more than I thought I would when I started. The complex sequentials I had planned were giving me a ton of grief until I decided to strip everything down into a nice, big, saucy spread of Sharlene giving us the goods (and by goods, I mean a doe-eyed, lip-biting expression).

All right... well this one had a big series of back and forth iterations before finally settling on something quite simple. At first I tried a set of panels with Sharlene delivering some impassioned dialog, while Envy and Mi-hee fought behind her in the background. The comedic juxtaposition of these elements intrigued me, but the flow felt off somehow.

A wild WiP appears! In this page, Sharlene is directing Envy to sit on Marvin's face (and she is all too happy to comply). I struggled a bit placing Sharlene's pointing finger without cropping it, or having it point off the page, until I realized I could simply aim it downwards and have it overlap the panel, thus leading the eye down to the next sequence. It also reinforces the fact that she is pointing at Marvin, even though he's not visible in the same panel.

I had no clue I'd write this in, but the idea to have Sharlene do a little dance on top of Marvin felt too good to pass up. After all, Sharlene deserves to have some fun after everything she's been through.

Here's a peek at the roughs for the upcoming page. This was from a couple days ago, so the inks are almost finished. Should be up tomorrow, I think.
This page was mostly improvised. Occasionally, when ideas pop up, I'll deviate from the script a little... So for this page I thought it would be a good idea to give Sharlene a little dance sequence, showing off her moves and gyrating on Marvin. Only problem is, I haven't written the dialog for this page! Maybe you can think of a good cap...
All right - bit of a setup page here before the action kicks off proper. I considered going into big sex with this page, and played with the idea, but decided that I really needed a large panel (and setup) of the bomb fuse starting - as this will play an important part in the upcoming sequentials. Another experiment in paneling here, now let's see if it paid off. If it works, the eye should flow from the moment of the slap down into Sharlene's speech balloon directly below it, through the character's eyes, and then down into Marvin's "FINE!", all the way to the floor, and then back up to the insert panel.
It's always risky to ask the reader to zig-zag through a page layout like this, but I think I've figured out a way to make it work - at least when needed. In this case, I ...

So I was going through the comic, and I realized that the last page seemed a little off, tonally. In truth, I had an extra page planned for this sequence–I wanted to feature a visual call-back to the beginning of the comic–but I had to shorten it in order to get the pacing right for an upcoming double-spread. While the initial panels were fine, I felt this sequence would be better served with a single more dynamic shot. I think the change helped.
