Jenny Greenmere - done

I love how this one turned out. Can you tell I had a bit of the colours left on my palette from the Nerdanel piece? ;)

Looking back on 2015

... most of which you shared. Putting together my summary meme for 2015 was, overall, a very warm and fuzzy Patreon feeling. Thank you all for being here and sharing this with me.

Looking at this year's output, *dayum*, it's been a good one. You'll recognise a lot of those things (most of them hanging on your walls!) You may not have seen January (a gift for a friend), and you certainly haven't seen December - it was simply the only thing I've drawn this month. Monny the Christmas Mo...

Forced break

Hey you wonderful people, I'll have to take a short break for a week or two. I told you how stressful last month was, with the sick kitty (he's all right again, thankfully), and this month, I knew there was a lot of marking to do, but until now, I'd hoped that wouldn't prevent me from drawing at least a bit. Now yesterday I lost my purse - with everything in it - and today my brain decided to shut down in a migraine attack that has left me without most of my vision in my left eye. It's all just ...

Ambush - lineart

Remember this? Been working on this on and off for ages and the lineart is finally done.

Poor horse is having the worst day ever. "Come to Middle-earth, they said! Unlimited woods to roam in, they said! Pretty mares, they said!"

Here's a first:

I decided that a tutorial vid where I explain a lot doesn't really work well if you have to read through a lot of text while watching me work, so here's my first ever narrated vid. Tremble before my wannabe Oxford English, word-groping, and those rather plosive "P"s.

It's the same vid I posted earlier, just with narration instead of captions. Any preferences on what works better?

I'll probably stick to music for those timelapse things, and maybe do a more tutorial-like vid ...

Jenny Greenmere - lineart

Finally got more work done on this! The lineart for Jenny Greenmere.

Here's the updated process video, covering the digital sketch and the full lineart process. Hope it's illuminating! :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27JfK-xwj8I

Old Tom Bombadil had a merry wedding

...crowned all with buttercups, hat and feather shedding!

A fun commission of a character I've never drawn (never been much of one for the bearded guys), but I really like it. :) Polychromos on mid-tone Ingres pastel paper, 22x30 cm.

Concept to finish - Jenny Greenmere

Okay, just the sketch at this stage, but my next video project will be a larger one, documenting pretty much everything that goes into an image. The image will be "Jenny Greenmere" for Paul. :)

Odin the Wanderer

Another Patreon commission for Starrla - while I drew him, people thought he was Gandalf, which isn't that far off the mark, I think! :)

Next convention piece: This month's prompt for Gwendolyn! She requested Haleth, who was fun to do!

Faramir

Just returned from two wonderful days at Ring*Con - it was such a great time, and I spent two days drawing! I had a lot of fun with three Patron commissions/prompts. Here's Ian's November commission: Faramir! ^___^

A warm welcome, by the way, to the new Patrons. :)

Nellas is brought before Thingol

A commission for Wiltraud that developed a life it its own. I had never drawn Nellas, so when I thought about how to portray her, I thought of what we know about her - a simple, free spirit, more at home in trees than at court - and it was clear to me that she had to look like my daughter, so I gave her a head full of bushy, curly hair. I underlined her fairy-like nature with a tail skirt like in those old fairy paintings.

Last chance for NEWPAINTINGS code!

Expiring tomorrow! :) (If anyone wants Nerdanel, she'd be a "small" custom print with gold leaf added - She ought to work quite well as print!)

Thanks to everyone who's already got prints! :)

Glaurung

The next step on my quest to non-cuddly dragons! De-humanising the eye went a long way. Drawn during in-service training at school today. In-service training and class trips yield particularly violent subject matter. I'm damned if I know why...

Sepia and white polychromos on mid-tone Ingres paper, 23.5 x 32 cm.

Original is up on Etsy if anyone's interested (please don't use the print code for it though!) ;)
