Tar-Mairon

Patreon commission for Veronica, who requested Sauron as he might have appeared in Númenor, as Tar-Mairon. She did leave me the option to go for Maedhros instead, but hey, I can't always chicken out - or maedhros out! ;)

Thank you, Veronica!! ^^

Éowyn

The prompt drawing for TANJA, who requested Éowyn! I really, really like this one.

This "Dragon's Blood" colour is going to be my new favourite. <3

Etsy coupon for you!

Here's your coupon for new pieces: NEWPAINTINGS

=) Just enter that at checkout if you want prints of any of my recent works. It's valid until November 3rd!

Earnings will probably go into a new scanner without fifteen scratches and spots on the glass. I already know them all by name, but they're still a bother to get rid of everytime!

The Vanyar Leave for War

Seems that "The Oath has been Awakened" has to hand over the Best Painting Ever trophy! ;)

Thanks for bringing that one out in me, Paul. ^___^

Patreon is being weird - when I wanted to upload the detail shots, it merged the two posts and deleted the image. Here's the detail shots: http://goldseven.de/wp_vanyar_detail.jpg

White and gold and mother of pearl

... this piece is almost impossible to photograph. I'm already scared of the scanning!

Background done!

This is the moment when I'm always circling my piece and avoiding to do the foreground. I love this stage. And am I ever glad I fixed the building!

I think this may be my new favourite piece of 2015. <3

Okay, perspective is back on track.

The weird thing is that this building is now round. I honestly have no idea how that happened. O_o

Perspective = magic with a broken wand.

Detail wip of a commission for Paul, who has a lot of fun chasing me out of my comfort zone (but the fun is mutual here)! I suck at architecture, so much of the first two days of working on this were spent looking for reference photos I did myself (to avoid copyright problems). After I'd looked at and discarded all the photos I took in Rome, Speyer, Aachen, or elsewhere, I found a photograph I took inside Hintze Hall in the Natural History Museum in London, which works great for Elven/Valinorean...

As little might be thought

Sketch for a commission for Lisa, who requested this scene - which I'd done several years ago and always wanted to revisit!
Drawing three people interacting is always nice to do with reference, so I got my daughter to take photos of me and my son (twice) looking at a seashell. My son was very pleased to be Elrond AND Elros, haha.

It's coming!!!

They said pre-order will be ready within a week!

There'll be a pre-order for a couple of weeks, with special deals, at a discounted price, and with added prints, art cards, and sketched copies. ^__^ The book itself will be out early next year, and will be around 23$ in pre-order.

It's a large-format softcover book, coloured throughout, and will have 110 pages full of my illustrations (older and new).

Once it's out, it'll be priced at around 29$, but sketched copies w...

New postcards!

Hey you great people! The Great Shipping (TM) last week left me nearly without postcards again, so I got a batch of new ones for you guys. :) Going out in print orders and such, too!

The calendars should be there next week; as soon as they are, I'll let you know first, of course.

Helcaraxë

I think this is my personal highlight for this year. I'm particularly proud that I managed not to overwork the light bits. \o/

36x27 cm, watercolour and gouache on Canson Montval paper. (Remind me not to use any other paper ever again!)

Video coming soon! ^^

One of those paintings that make you get a warmer jumper.

The blue thing is masking fluid - applied with a masking fluid pen. That exists! More on it after I'll know for certain whether I ruined this piece. Which will be... at the very end. O.O

Back to this bad boy

I started pencilling him yesterday, but he ended up in the waste paper basket (there to join my attempts at Inktober), and I took him back to the drawing table. I seem to be in a bit of an art slump. You can usually tell I am when I bake an unusual lot of pies and biscuits - seems to be my alternative outlet!

So, I can tell you to stay away from that Japanese "three ingredients cheesecake" that's going round on Facebook (yuck!), but with the help of some photo reference, I think I sa...

Calendars! =D

My favourite printer finally, finally has a load of great calendar options! (They're the guys who made "Cannae"; I just love the things they do). I'm putting together a vertical-format calendar with six recent and six classic images. They will be available in two formats - postcard sized and either A3 or A4. ^__^ What do you think, should I go for A3 or A4? ~Edit: Yup, A3 it is!

(The coasters, by the way, haven't worked out - there was no way to do sets of four to six different ones withou...

More TOP SECRET and bad news for INKtober

Sorry about the radio silence - I spent twelve days marking exams (almost non-stop) and finished the last of 96 today. I broke out the pen nibs and ink to get into the groove... and two ripped-up pieces later, I remembered why I had never taken part in INKtober. I want to get on with the top secret stuff, with the Helcaraxe piece, with commissions for two of you, and some small paintings on the side to sell - and seriously, I want to do those far more that splotching Legolas' nose black. ...

Secret project update

I think it's easier now to guess who - or rather, what - she is, right? ^^

Can't talk too much about what it's for - only that it's a laaaaarge-scale collaboration, not a project of mine but something to which I'll contribute one piece. It's going to be a beautiful and awesome thing that'll happen next year.

That said, please cross your fingers it'll really happen next year. All the great things I was hoping for in terms of publications for this year have mostly evaporated. Th...

Next sale pieces

Letting you know a bit more in advance this time. :) These are the three final pieces going on sale until Saturday night - "It's no use", "A tapestry of sorrows", and "The Coming of Fingolfin".

^___^

Looking through the 2004 pictures, I found I had to put a shirtless Maedhros restriction in place. There were so many. O_o
