Russandol - skin
Holy sh**. I should use reference for face lighting more often. O_o
And invest three times as long into the skin tones. Might help, too.

When I set up my Patreon, I swore to myself I'd be all professional, like.
I'll deviate from that today slightly.
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Okay, I'm better now. *fans self*

- Only for prints (no originals, sorry! ;)).
- Valid until September 2nd.
- Patrons only, of course. :) If you have an Etsy name that I won't be able to connect to your Patreon handle, briefly let me know who you are!
Okay, for this, I totally blame Marie, who captured the "Brothers" piece:
Maedhros: I've got this!
Maglor: *That's what he said last time*
So, this is the last time. Morgoth's ambush. Maedhros realises he's got nothing, absolutely nothing covered.
While his horse wonders where all of this was said in the job description. Bloody small print.
This had to be split into two parts, as painting took longer than for the other videos I did. The link to part two is http://youtu.be/Y83elUCwh5s .
I've got a lot better with the editing and I can now fade out music! :D I also added more captions with comments and insights into my processes. Enjoy!

So, any more thoughts for that caption contest? :)

"... is that *my* blue outfit you're wearing?"
"Shut up. If you've forgotten the times she put me in mint-green tights, *I* haven't."
My internal caption contest keeps getting better. I can't remember when I've last drawn Maedhros in blue! Twenty years, probably...

Dapple grey horses are the best. Particularly with a pink spot on their noses.

Finally painting this! :) Maedhros is always so much fun...

Video coming up! :) I wish I could put more than one thing in a Patreon update, but until then, you'll have to put up with the spam.

FInishing touches to Nienna with a white gel pen. I think the little white droplets suit her really well - ever so slightly reminiscent of tears.

I sketched this yesterday after a totally amazing reference photo session with my daughter and a shawl. That girl is only seven but has a sense of poise and acting that is absolutely incredible. If only I didn't have to do so much anatomical postwork afterwards. :D
This should be good!
2015-08-19 06:20:02 +0000 UTC View PostI've been thinking about the watercolour vids I've been doing over the last two months, and I decided I'll be sharing them elsewhere too. They're so ridiculously time-consuming that I want more people to see them. Plus, I think I was going at it the wrong way. What I want with Patreon isn't to force people to pay for stuff I'll otherwise withhold from them, but to show their appreciation for seeing things I've created (which is what we're here for!) So, the videos won't be exclusive anymore, tho...

I made a handful of matted prints of Cuiviénen! :) (My scanner was visibly happy with all the blues. "Blue! Why, thank you! Now was that so hard?")

It's done! And yay, am I happy with the colours here. The gel pen was definitely a good asset, too!
By the way, you can view any Patreon piece at full size by clicking right and selecting "view full image". This one really loses a lot of detail in the compression.

Fun with Ultramarine, and white gel pen! Our local artist's supply stacks Mitsubishi gel pens again - and refills. Typically, a Mitsubishi pen survives one or two watercolour paintings before its tip gets clogged up; with refills, it's slightly more sustainable. ;)

Had a little time to sketch today, and worked on meaner dragons a bit more... I think this one passes.
I think the other parents at the school barbecue thought me slightly strange, but at least we've got that straight now...

Did two small red chalk sketches on pastel paper today - wow, I just love the effect! Amrod and Amras, and one of (a very thoughtful) Maedhros.
Both pieces are up for sale here:

Yayayay. Gosh, the lineart here took ages. I was constantly making sure the tack and such looked about right. (And I made two entire "horses" and "costume" Pinterest walls on the side).

A very fine line art for Paul's Cuiviénen piece! I intend to keep the colouring a lot lighter than my last ones, so I did the lineart much thinner and lighter, to trick myself. Hope it works. ;)
In the foreground: Finwë and Míriel.

I've had these hundreds of photos on my hard drive that I took at the Burg Satzvey tournament in May, and finally decided to indulge in Maedhros, and Maglor, and horses! Whee! Brittany was happy to make it her prompt (which was Maglor). Hope you enjoy its procession!
What's happening there, what do you think? I'm not sure myself.
But good grief, this thing's old. :D Make sure to tell people it was drawn in 2006!
