Hey everyone I just wanted to let you in on what's going on this week and into the following start of September. As of writing this, I'm steadily in the painting process of finishing the Bone Dragons back banner pictured above and getting the final touches done on this monster of a miniature! This final piece is of course under the Camera and combines many elements from the previous tutorial parts with more NMM Gold and Stone which we've covered. But with some new elements, such as the Red Sk...

Hey everyone, just thought I’d drop a quick update this week to let you know that Part 2 of the Spyrer Orris suit will be out tomorrow. Just needed a bit of extra time editing this part before it’s ready.
Included in part 2 is also how I painted the Zone Mortalis base supplied with all of the Necromunda kits. And seeing as the first set of final images were shot at a lower angle, not giving you a proper look. Here he is under a black background and a proper angle to see it. These b...

Hey everyone I'm happy to present my Spyrer who's ready to drop into Hive Secundus to hunt some zenos and humans. Cause we know this guy is just in it for the kill count and the XP, literally! As this suit gives the meaning of unlocking abilities in the 41st millennium lol.
I'm really happy with the overall results of this new miniature as the project was much more of a reactionary evolution rather than a singular vision from the start. I think that's part of the fun with a painting, wi...

This week From the Desk I have one of the brand new Castelax plastic kits from the new Mechanicum box set release for the Horus Heresy, kindly sent to me by Games Workshop. I can't tell you how good it feels to finally have these amazing sculpts done properly in a plastic kit, as I've avoided the resin kits for so many years. Yes, they do take longer to assemble, but when it comes to a crisp build, no mould slips through many symmetrical parts, and a LOT less pinning, I'll choose the plastic ...

This week had me very busy with a friend's commission painting a new set of characters and totems for his upcoming board game expansion on Kickstarter. I did manage to sneak in the face of the Hunter, the new Spyrer that was released in the latest set of Necromunda Hive Secundus. This will wrap up the parts that are coming up in next week's tutorial which will be of the armour and face painting of this miniature.
Also to highlight is a little Photoshop correction on the head to share w...

Welcome to part 1 of the brand new Skaventide Greyseer from Games Workshop! Warhammer Official was kind enough to send me a preview copy of the boxed game, and I had to start things off with possibly the best-looking character model in the set! In this project, you will learn my insights and approach to painting this Greyseer in a unique lighting aspect with bands of "keyhole" lighting with a full backdrop. In Part 1 we cover the first lights of painting the head, cloth, and nmm chestplate. ...

I've had my first painting session with the brand-new Necromunda Spyrer that comes within the new expansion set in Hive Secundus, all provided generously by the Warhammer Community! I'm having a great day on the brush, keeping it loose with more sketching in highlights and less worried about super-refined blending or making the armour look too smooth. I'm having fun with all the excellent shapes and curves in this very detailed combat suit with a simple scheme involving two temperatures of gr...

Welcome to the 3rd and final part of Hibu Khan.
In this video, we talk more about the painting project itself. From the inspiration and creative process of the model. Roadblocks of painting his head dialling the Kabuki face paint. Critiquing your own works with the strategies I use to get the most out of each session. Painting trichary elements such as belt details, cables and other small details on the model. And finally running through the final touch-up details that didn't make it to...

I want to let you know that all isn't silent here, just hella HOT and almost too hot paint! But I'm pulling through constantly refilling the wet palette and fighting that dry tip that plagues our brushes in the summer! If you are seeing this piece for the first time, take a look at the previous post to see the mock-up lighting scheme on which this Greyseer will be set. This one is sure an interesting challenge and something new for me, but I'm working my way through with constant reference ch...

With the new version of AOS Skaventide coming around the corner, I've been conceptualizing with possibly my favourite rat miniature from the new set, the Greyseer. Taking suggestions from my dedicated Patreons, I wanted this concept to play with a new lighting scenario. "God Light" proved to be a popular scheme from the Jump Captain, but well rats I don't see them getting all that holy treatment lol. Also,...

Hibu Khan is complete and he's ready for his showcase! What a fantastic miniature and it's definitely been a treat to paint him. As promised, next week there will be back 2 back tutorials of both parts on painting him that have lessons that aren't just specific to him. Emphasis on illustrating shoulder pad trim, working with angles to help you get the most pop and volume with one of the biggest features of Space Marine power armour. Airbrushing white and the painting process to help remove th...

I'm super stoked to finally get to share with you all a work-in-progress of Hibu Khan of the White Scars. Thanks to Warhammer Official for sending me a preview copy of this amazing miniature of the Vth legion character from the Black Library novels of this disgraced Khan who is now seeking atonement as a Saygar Mazan.
With my fuel for Heresy at an all-time high with several units of White Scars being done for my own army, it's nice to get to do a character when the desk is currently fil...

This week we jump back to Belial and take a little rewind to the initial element that I painted on him, and that's his Terminator armour. This is a great way to paint space marine and terminator armour with a dull finish without any fancy polish and gives them a more utilitarian look. It's a nice contrast to his luxurious cape to make his threads stand out. He is combining both the airbrush and brush to dig into the finer details of scratches, and chips and utilizing our lighting direction. T...

The Ordu is going strong and if you've been following my past updates From the Desk, that the Heresy bug is lodged in there deep with a drive to get this army on the tabletop. Yesterday I decided to finally tackle a vehicle kit with the humble workhorse of the legion, the Rhino transport. Vehicles have actually been one of the stress points of painting the White Scars. In the earlier days of the scheme, presenting the green atmosphere was most challenging in the conceptual phase of vehicles p...

You may have noticed that I've taken the brush back onto my Ordu of Jagahtai, the White Scars in the past couple of weeks. And man, my passion for the heresy is back full-throttle with the progress I've had with these bikes thus far. It's never so much about painting a single model as army painting that honestly scares me and makes me nervous or anxious about painting them. I can't tell you how many entries I have in my "Black Book" about colour schemes, and tweaking different methods and r...

Hey everyone, this week we start with Belial by initially taking a little skip past his armour and going straight for this runway Cape! Don't worry, we will backpedal a bit to cover his armour and face, but I want to kick this project off to a great start with one of my favourite materials to paint. The first 1/3 of this video is going to be on a theory about reading the light volumes of cloth and showing you strategies to help you navigate this material and of course, help you improve your p...

Before we jump into this weeks tutorial on Belial's Cape and his red carpet appearance, I've been staring at my mass collection of unbuilt and unpainted models of the Heresy which are supposed to be dedicated to the Ordu of Jaghatai - the White Scars. As the ongoing demand of commission painting, Warhammer Community pre-relese articles and my love of expanding my painting skills. There has been an ever looming desire to see myself back on the gaming table to enjoy an evening of chucking dice ...

I've been busy on the brush this week with Belial, Master of the Deathwing! Not only is he a pretty sweet sculpt, rocking the Deathwing colours; but he has one of the most impressive capes on a recent space marine sculpt. After over a week of being ill with a nasty flu bug, I knew that starting back on the brush I needed a good win in my books. And capes n cloth are one of those materials I enjoy painting and I love creating the feel of. Next week's tutorial is taking a deep dive into paintin...

Happy Monday everyone, this weeks tutorial is going to be kicking off a brand new project of the Darkoath Chieftain with a focus on skin. The flesh sure isn't weak with these chaos marauders of the north (I only know the Old World lore), as they stride across the frozen wastes tainted by Chaos in all manners of fur, leather, armour sections, and of course bearing their physique for all of the realms to see! This gives us a nice transition into painting some new materials other than the numero...
