Five of Wands - Sketch

I just finished the sketch for the fifth card in the Wands suit. I'm one day behind, so I should finish it on Sunday. 

About the card: The key words here are disagreement, competition and hassles. In the Rider Waite deck, the illustration shows children playfully fighting each other. I was debating whether I should take a similar approach but instead decided to go a different way.

Art Collector Prints - August, September

I know lately, it's been a little quiet around here. It's mainly because I haven't done a lot of traditional ink work that I could share. I spent the month going through my files and making prints of previous illustrations and I experimented with acrylics some more.

Four of Wands - new

I did it again! 

I scraped my other attempt and started over again. And I must say, I'm so much happier with this approach. Instead of trying to convey what a general feeling of freedom would look like, I tried to find a more personal angle. 

I'm workinga lot, constantly. And while I absolutely love my job, sometimes all I want to do is just lie on the grass and forget everything around me - especially all the pressure that comes with my responsibilities.  So at this point...

Four of Wands - Lineart and Colour WIP

Oh my god, I'm struggling with this so much. 

I don't really know why. Or maybe I do. I think the face is bothering me. I liked it in the sketch, but I just couldn't make it work in the more detailed drawing. I might have to redraw it from a different angle or something. It just feels wrong right now. I've been obsessing over this for hours now, so I'm just gonna take a break. 

I'm happy with the dress though! ^^

I've got a new tarot card in progress! :D

The Four of Wands is about celebration, freedom and excitement. I associate the feeling of being free with lightness - as if you were floating. You're just letting go of everything that's weighing you down and enjoy the happy moments of life. Soap bubbles seemed to be appropriate for that as well. I also included the flowers as a symbol of happiness. In German, the lily of the valley is called "Maiglöckchen" ("may bell") which metaphically introduces ...

Again, so much about keeping these cards simple, haha. I handled this in a similar way as I would if I were using a pencil. It took almost two days, but I'm happy with the result.

The Three of Wands is about exploration, foresight and leadership. When I think about going on a journey and leaving the familiar behind, this image comes close to what I have in mind.

Red; Blue

Hey my lovely patrons! 

I wanted to try out something a little different. So I mixed my "ink style" with some acrylic paint and coloured pencils. These two were fun to make. I created them on the same paper I use for my ink drawings because it holds wet media quite well. But it's not perfect for doing all the cool watercoloury things that you can do with thin acrylic washes. So I ordered some hot-pressed paper and I will be experimenting with it once it arrives. I'm ready for more colours...

Sounds; Losing Track

After all these black and white drawings, I think it's time to do some watercolour/acrylic experimenting this week. I'm excited. :D

And a big item on my bucket list is getting a setup ready for some traditional art recording and streaming.

Smirk, As Time Goes By

It's Ron! Ron, Ron. Ron Wasley! I love Harry Potter and I've had a ton of fun drawing the three main characters. I didn't want to just stick to the movie cast and instead, put my own spin on them. 

Also, I felt like drawing an older dude today. Pretty ladies will always be me preference, but you gotta change it up a bit. :D

Two of Wands

I just finished the Two of Wands! I went for a different colour palette than usual and I really like how it turned out. :] I usually don't use a lot of earthy tones or yellow in my work, so this was a nice change. But I still had to throw some blue in there. :D

Sorry about the delay this month. As you know, things have been a little crazy around here because of my thesis. I'm going to start making the rewards asap! For now, I'll just leave this illustration here. I hope you like it! ...

Leigh - June Print

It's almost midnight and I can't think of a better name right now. Do you have an idea? :)

This is the exclusive art collector print for June. I hope you like it! I sure had fun creating it. 

I think in July I want to do give watercolours and acrylics a try. Maybe do some environment studies. Study some more specific plants and things like that. So much to learn!

June Update

Guys, I did it!! I finished my Master's thesis! :D
I'm really exhausted now and need a moment to recover and get back into drawing. I haven't touched a pencil or my tablet for three weeks. So I'll be sketching a little bit today.

Two of Wands - Failed Attempt

Guys, I fucked this one up. :/
I really wasn't feeling the drawing, but I thought colours might be able to fix it. Then, halfway through I decided to give it another try next month. I brought it to a somewhat finished stage (85%), so that I can show the process in the rewards.  I still like the concept and analogy, but I'll be approaching it differently.

This is very different from the Ace of Wands where the card's meaning was more abstract. I didn't want to limit myself in trying to stick to the first card's style. Instead, I'm just going with whatever concept comes to mind for the individual card I'm working on.
The Two of Wands is, among other things, about personal power, boldness, achieving your goals, facing your fears and taking a different approach. So I thought climbing would be the a great analogy.

I haven't been active lately because I'm currently drowning in my Master's thesis. That thing is pretty much all I've been doing since the beginning of the month and now I'm about halfway through and I would give anything to have it done now.

Ace of Wands

I finished the first tarot card, wohooo!! :D
I think I like it. What do you guys think?

Also, I recorded part of the process to test out if my computer could handle it. It shut down after a while and I freaked out because I couldn't turn it on again and I thought it was broken. D; But then I let it cool off and it worked again. But looks like I won't be able to offer process videos once I hit the goal. I'll need a new computer first. I'm pretty bummed out about that. Sorry. :(

Ace of Wands - Base Colours

I laid down some base colours and watercolour textures today. I don't know if I'm going to keep them this way. I'll see what it looks like once I add the shadow colours. I feel like this could use some cyan and light green. But yeah, I wanted to keep it fresh and light and sort of pastel-ish. I really like the watercolour textures. They give kind of a Mucha vibe. :D

When I started planning the project, I specifically wrote down that I was going to keep these cards simple. Ah, well... :D

This thing took me all day and in the beginning, I really didn't think I could get it done. It's midnight now and I did it! I'm looking forward to starting the colouring process tomorrow.

I stopped adding numbers to these drawings, because I lost track of them.

This one is inspired by yuki-onna, a figure from Japanese folklore. She is a snow woman ghost described as inhumanly beautiful, whose eyes can strike terror into mortals that get lost traveling in the snowy mountains. She floats across the snow, leaving no footprints.

I don't know if anyone could pull off that "inhumnaly beautiful" aspect, but I tried to give her somehwat of an otherworldly appearance.

Ace of Wands - Process Notes

As I promised, here is my thought process behind the concept for the Ace of Wands. One word leads to another until something clicks. In this case, I think the key word that sparked the idea was "assembling".
I hope this is interesting to you and somewhat comprehensible. I know that I always like seeing this sort of stuff when other artists post it. :)
