The titles aren't very ceative, but I hope that's ok.

New Artwork

Hello friends!

It may not seem like it, but I've been drawing a lot since I came back from Japan. I'm doing lots of little pen doodles in my sketchbook. So far, I'm keeping them to myself, to take off the pressure.

But I also painted a piece in gouache and coloured pencil, and one in Photoshop! Both were super fun, but I just prefer the feeling of traditional art at the moment. So I'll be making more of those! My trip gave me so much inspiration and energy, and I just love creatin...

New Work in Progress

Hello friends!

I think every artist should paint a scene with a gigantic cloud at some point in their life, and for me, now is the time. I felt like painting something light and summery and fun.

This month, I have less time than usual to work on art, because I'll be heading to Japan very soon. I'm excited!!

New Artwork - Early Access

Hello friends, how are you today?

I'm getting ready for my biggest convention of the year, which is next week, but before that, I wanted to finish this painting I've been working on. I just wanted to paint a cozy library in warm lighting. Adding all the golden decorative elements was super fun. I hope you like it!

In case you'll be at LBM/MCC in Leipzig (27-30 April), I'm here:

Digital Sketchbook

Hello friends, I hope you've had a good weekend!

I've been having a ton of fun sketching lately, which is unusual for me, since most of the time, I enjoy finished work a lot more. I'm still not very good at doodling for the sake of doodling, because I need some sort of purpose or bigger picture, but putting together these pages, and trying to come up with a pleasing composition in the process has been great fun! I could see myself continuing this as some sort of visual journal/travel lo...

Comic Page

Hello friends!

I've been feeling pretty good about my art lately, and I'm having a lot of fun experimenting and just doodling (which I rarely do). Taking a stab at sequential art is something that's been sitting on my bucket list for ages, and I'm finally trying it, starting small.

This page is the result of a weird little idea I had a while ago, and I had so much fun with it! I used Procreate for the entire thing, and I'm going to share the process video with you next month...

New illustration! Early access

Hello friends!

How are you doing today? Just in time before the end of the month, I finished another painting. It's loosely inspired by the game Stray. I'm not much of a gamer myself, but I've been watching my bf playing, and I absolutely love the world and atmosphere. But I wanted to make this scene my own, and bring in a bit more sunlight.

I initially tried to finalise this in poster colour, but I ended up scanning it in at about 80% finish, and painted the remaining bi...

Greenhouse - Early Access

Hello friends!

How are you today? Spring is finally, undeniably here, and that makes me happy. I also managed to finish the writing for my art book. Now there are only a few tutorials left, as well as image descriptions. And I already have a pretty good idea of what I want the cover to look like.

But I also finally finished the greenhouse illustration. I took my time with this one, haha. However, I like the effect I was able to achieve. And I hope you like it, too!

Essay: Why I Make Art

Hello friends!

I'm preparing the rewards right now, and I will send them out later today. But before I do that, I wanted to share this piece of writing I did recently, titled Why I Make Art. It's a topic I've been thinking about, especially with current challenges like AI art.

I'm currently in the process of putting together the content of my second art book, which will revolve around the creative process, and what it means to be an artist. This is an exc...

Greenhouse - Base Colours

Hello friends, how are you today?

I'm continuing with this painting, and I'm taking a slightly different approach than usual. I recently browsed through my old folders, and I found this:

I actually really liked this process of keeping the lineart loose and somewhat colourful to bring in some warmth. So that's what I'm doing with the current painting. As I work on details in the scene, I'm...

Final Artwork: Mountain Village

Hello friends!

I wanted to share my new painting with you before the weekend. The process was interesting, because I'm noticing how my gouache practice is influencing the way I paint digitally. Usually, I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist, get hung up on details, and over-render paintings. But for this one, I simplified and flattened a lot of areas, used broad strokes and basic brushes.  And I think it still looks finished.

Basically, I gave myself permission to make ...

Quick gouache update

Hello friends, how are you this Monday?

I'm still doing the weekly gouache exercises and I'm learning so much! But for every new thing I discover, there are 10 I still don't know yet. In the end, it all comes down to experimenting and putting things into practice.

So here are 2 small paintings I did last month: The mossy rocks were an extension of the rock painting assignment I posted earlier, and the other one was concerned with creating smooth gradients. Please excuse my m...

January Reward

Hello friends!

I just sent out the rewards via private message. As always, they include my brushes (Photoshop and Procreate), Gradient Maps, and a 10% discount code for my store. I just updated the brush pack to add a few painterly brushes!

The layered PSD file, step-by-step images, inspiration/reference are taken from this painting I call "Blinding Light". It doesn't really have a story to it, and rather a mood I wanted to capture. My goal was to paint this street scene flooded b...

New WIP & Gouache Practice

Hello friends!

I hope you're well. It's super snowy here today, so I'm constrantly getting distracted  looking out the window.

I wanted to share a couple of things with you that I've been working on. Above, you can see a digital painting in the making. I don't know exactly what the story is yet, but I wanted something that felt airy and flooded by light, as a counterpart to this piece:

A quick portrait, more realistic than usual

Hello friends! How are you today?

I'm in an experimental phase at the moment and I felt like painting something different today. I usually hide these things away on my hard drive somewhere, but I liked this one enough to share it with you.

What do you think?

Interior Painting

Hello friends!

I hope you've enjoyed the holidays and are looking forward to the new year!

In between bigger paintings, I like doing quicker studies and scribbles, and this is one of them. The scene is based on an airbnb I stayed in a few years ago, and I loved the plants around the window and the little details - like that red clock on the windowsill. My primary focus for this was colour and keeping the scene light and airy, rather than going for full contrast and a broad value r...

New Artwork - The Wishing Tree

Hello friends!

How are you doing today? Already slowing down for the holidays?

I just finished a new painting that I wanted to share with you. My goal was to paint something bright, warm and hopeful for the new year. I was inspired by a custom in which you tie ribbons to trees to make wishes. So fingers crossed 2023 will be a better year! I tend to dwell on negative things quite a bit, so I need to remind myself to stay positive every now and then.

Hope you like ...

2022: A Year In Books

Hello friends,

As I've talked about a couple of times, reading has been a big thing for me this year. I usually read the most when I'm feeling calm, or maybe reading makes me calm? Either way, it's just been really lovely to be accompanied by books all year round. I distinctly remember reading "1984" on a sunny day in the park, or "Earthlings" on a bench outside of our hotel on a vacation at the North Sea. I love these little memories that are tied to the books now.

5 New Limited Edition Prints

Hello friends!

It's been a minute since I released new prints, so it's about time! This collection of 5 prints will be the last thing to hit the store before Christmas. They're all landscapes, and I really enjoyed painting them, and getting lost in detailing all the foliage, clouds and other textures. I hope you'll like them, too!
In order, the titles are: Waterfall, Mountain Temple, Landscape With Rice Field, Misty Lake, Funaya.
