Noise School #2.1: Hybrid Noise

Hey, I'm back now that things are less swamped. Computer is barely functioning, but enough to give another lesson in noise school: hybrid noise! (not to be confused with the 1997 merzbow album hybrid noisebloom)

I might soon take a photo and explain my live setup, but I'll start with this one as it is quite cheap and easy. Basically I have two main forms of noise live (and in recordings): sample slicing and hybrid noise.

Computer problems sorry for the delay

Hi, my cat (maybe?) pushed my laptop off the table onto slate and it’s now making a constant horrifying beep although it works we backed up everything and we’re not too sure how much longer it has and needs some repair (thanks nova!). I get a new computer early march, but just posting here now there might be a delay as I can’t use it (I’m on my phone). Sorry for the delay! Here's a snipped of a work in progress. It's from an upcoming EP I creating to help raise funds for FFS (part two of it, I can only afford to do one part of my face at a time :/). The entire release is based on a live set I did last year, but it's now edited beyond recognition, so it's based on improvisations and it all ties together as one big thing (hence the sudden end). Hi! Since y'all are paying me, what specific kind of content do you want to see and hear? Moreover, when it comes to production stuff, what did any of you want to learn? I want to make sure your $ with me is worth it.

I did this in about an hour, but I trained a granulator on me doing mouth noises and screams. some of the samples are 'nice', one goes weirdly melodic for a second, others are just funny. Anyway feel free to use the however you want, credits appreciated but not necessary. I might be using them myself if I can find a use. Beware some contain jumpscares.

Some free software/plugins/sample packs

I got a comment about some free alternatives to ableton plugins for those of us either totally broke or just starting off and not ready (or don't want) to pay 324242432 trillion $ to music software corporations who have consolidated the market and (seemingly) barred many working class musicians from entry.

Obviously this stuff is geared to noise, ambient or experimental musicians (or anything somewhat tangentially similar to me), and absent are those free 808 packs that are everywhere....

Noise School #1: How I 'Mastered' The Origin

I saw that a few people wanted to see my process and wanted some more resources on how I do the things I do. Some noise-musicians don't like giving away their 'secrets'. I am not one of those. Despair Smiles (unfinished game soundtrack)

So like a Long Time Ago i tried to make an RPG maker game called "Despair Smiles", basically a Yume Nikki/Silent Hill ripoff except black and white and with a trans girl, had some run-away-from-the-monster themes and giant fetus heads attacking you. Anyway I made a few songs for the "soundtrack", including one decent proper song (ColdSave, which I tried to remake recently), rest are mostly looping drones. Anybody can use this for their games (or whatever) if they wish, as they loop seamlessly...

All Being Is Flesh

I found this 26 minute monster of a noise song/EP buried in my harddrive, totally forgotten, circa 2016. The production here is quite raw and some of the elements recorded here were reused for Hook Echo which was recorded around the same time. Uh, enjoy I guess? Features me drumming (badly) playing clarinet (badly) singing loops (badly) but it kinda works (badly?).

Me and my then-partner made this song trying out her new microkorg. Ambient, mostly improvised stuff with some singing and some light noise, not dissimilar to the Flesh of the World in sound.

Old short doom song found on HDD (circa 2016)

I like the melodies on this one. Has some of my deathgrowls which I miss doing. Likely a test song for my baritone guitar.

Uboa and Kashya - Object Permanence (2016)

That Smiling Machine

From 2012. Very sad. Another unfinished, vocal-less song (sans some choir) from (just before) the Jouissance era. Not to sure why I never used it, as I enjoyed it. Complete with heavy guitars, me actually playing (electronic) drums. 10 minutes.

Intervals Between Bursts of Lead

Jouissance-era unfinished B-side (2013-2015), lacking vocals (minus song choirs) and even bass in sections, a 15-minute long song of the sludge style mixed with something like Swans. Found wasting away on my hard drive, and might put up more ancient songs which never went anyway for curiosity's sake.

The Flesh of the World.

First song plays here, the entire thing is downloadable below. Still not quite a "final" version, but an open beta. A few things need fixing up (vocals need a little added low end and other small things), but is close to the final product. Listen seamlessly in order. If uncompressed wavs are too big, I'll upload mp3's later.

Untitled song #1 (harsh noise)

I made a few "soundtracky" songs i.e. made for a soundtrack to a film that didn't exist. This the "scary" one with a noisey end. I might reuse some of the elements later in a different song, but this as a whole is a B-side which won't be used for the LP it was originally created for. 1/3

untitled (25/10/19)

Improvisation with some subtle elements added on, some mistakes left in. Came after a time of no creativity for 2+ months. Inspired by 80's Japanese ambient muzak, performed mostly on a korg minilogue. Fantano mentioned this song in a video for some reason. Some nerds called it "berlin school?" which I am not sure what it is. Might place on a future released with some more polish.
