Hi Patrons! Becky here. If you're reading this, it means that DiNK has just ended, and I'm about to have 2 free days in Colorado with Naomi! After the rush to finish drawing Issue 4, figure out my taxes, and pack for the convention, I'm excited to have some breathing room. We're planning to spend a lot of time eating and drinking, but I'll let you know if we draw buildings or something!

In order to finish Issue 4 in ti...

Silly reference photos

Enjoy an extra-early update! This is Becky, preparing to leave for DiNK Denver tomorrow. Your support is invaluable in getting me to these conventions. Between table costs, printing costs, plane fare, and lodging, there are a lot of expenses before the fun part begins!

While I'm in a great mood and feeling slightly loopy from finishing Issue 4, please enjoy some of the reference photos I took to help me draw the last 6 page...

Barry here. I can' t believe we've finally gotten to SuperButch's first real appearance! (Last week, on page 101).

And of course, she's rescuing Lois Lane - er, I mean, Lillian Lewis.

It's been over twenty years since I first thought of the idea for SuperButch. (Although at that point I had only the most basic notion; the details didn't emerge until after Becky signed on). I'm so amazed that she's finally being put on paper! (And on screen.)

Thanks so much for st...

Becky here! Funny story, the sound of SuperButch smashing the garbage can lid was originally spelled "krunk" in the script, leading to this gChat exchange:

I changed the sound effect because krunk is a word...

SuperButch is actually in the 3-digit page numbers! Thanks for sticking with Barry and me through the marathon that is creating a webcomic. Now we're going to go celebrate by watching anime and not even thinking about drawing, adjusting, critiquing, or redrawing another hand tonight!

Hi! Becky here, with one of the MANY goofy reference selfies I took for this scene. (Also, thank you to Naomi for posing too, and to Barry for literally giving me a hand in panel 4 ;D)

Thanks as always for reading and supporting us! When I started drawing this webcomic, I didn't realize (as Barry pointed out last week) that an 8+ page punching-scene will involve entire months where all I draw ...

Hi folks! Barry here.

This certainly is an intense bunch of pages. I know that from your perspective, reading this online, it takes weeks to get through this beating - but in the printed comic, with hardly any words to slow readers down, it'll take seconds. It's one of the odd things about this form of storytelling.

Although I'm feeling bad for poor Lily - and aren't you glad that, since we've seen her in the 1980s, we know she survives? - I'm also enjoying how great Becky's art f...

New reward - PDF copies of SuperButch!

We've added a new reward for patrons supporting at the $5 or above level - pdf copies of all the issues of SuperButch!

There are 4 pdf files currently available - the short prelude story "First Glance," plus the first three issues of SuperButch. We'll add each new issue as they come out.

Of course we'd love it if you increased your support level to $5 for the long haul. But we know not everyone can afford that!

If you'd prefer to bump up your reward level to $5 for a s...

Barry here. I was definitely the hold-up this week - my computer broke, and I put off lettering until I got the computer back from the shop late this afternoon.

Thanks so much for your support! It helps Becky financially, and it helps both me and Becky to know that folks are out there reading SuperButch.

This is absolutely the most violent scene Becky's ever drawn, by the way. That's what she gets for becoming a superhero artist. :-)

Be well, and we'll see you soon with page...

Hey patrons! Becky here. Other than SuperButch, I mostly draw autobio comics, so this was my first time researching things like "what does a kick to the stomach look like." It yields unpleasant Google results.

This week's page was brought to you by the You're Wrong About podcast, which unpacks big events you remember from the 90s but probably don't know the whole story of (especially if you were ten), and...

Yay, it's a page without complicated backgrounds or extreme angles! Also, if you Google "businessman running," you can find lots of reference photos to choose from, to capture those sweet sweet fabric folds!

As we're coming up on Becky's First Action Sequence, we'd like to thank you again for supporting SuperButch! It means a lot to Barry and me.

See you next week!

Hi, folks! Barry here. I'm posting this at 3am on Wednesday, which I think counts as Tuesday, right? Of course right.

Some panels come easy.  Panel 3 of this page was NOT one of the easy ones. I was at Becky's house on Thursday as she was trying to pencil this panel out and nothing, nothing, NOTHING was coming easily. And although she was kind enough not to curse her writer for asking for such an unreasonable angle - not with me sitting right there, anyway - I suspect the thought c...

Becky here! Welcome to The Rabbit Hole. I was surprised when Barry's script called for "a closed door with a crude drawing of Tenniel’s version of the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland." But The Rabbit Hole is based on a real location in New York City...

Becky here. FUNNY STORY, I was getting ready to upload this page for you on Monday night, when Barry and I realized that we'd completely forgotten to do the lettering and word balloons. Then, earlier this morning, I got a text from Barry that said "please don't kill me but I just noticed a mistake in the art." I'd forgotten to leave the phone booth door open in panel three! Somehow this had escaped our attention for the whole week that this page was in progress. (But hey, at least I'm getting...

Time-traveling back to Book 1, page 76

Becky here! This page belongs back in Issue Three, right after Lillian leaves Babe and Ruth's house party to warn about the mugging. When Issue Three was printed on paper, the moment where Lillian sees the corpse fell on the right-hand side of the book, so it didn't have the satisfaction of being a "big reveal" after ...

Hi patrons! Becky here. I just confirmed a table at the Denver Independent Comics & Art Expo (also known as DiNK)! It was a really fun convention last year, so I'm looking forward to going back this spring with Issue Three. And I have all of you to thank, because your pledges this month covered the cost of the convention table! Thank you for helping Barry and me to keep making SuperButch and then getting it out into the world...

Barry here! I hope everyone's having a lovely holiday season.

This page was actually completed back on the 24th, but Becky and I agreed that posting a new page on December 24th might cause some readers to miss the update altogether. So we agreed that I'd post it on the 26th.

But then I spent the 26th flying back to Oregon from visiting my mom (hi Mom!) in Florida, plus there was a super-gross infected finger issue - which I did take photos of - but out of my enormous reserve...

It's here: the Japan/Thailand Sketchbook!

Hi Patrons,

You may remember that I spent 2.5 weeks in September traveling around Japan, with a few days in Bangkok. I've finally scanned, cleaned up, and organized my sketchbook from that trip! I'm making this PDF available to patrons at all levels, because I appreciate your patience with late updates and rewards lately. And heck, I really appreciate everyone who decides to spend even a dollar a month supporting my work!

I'm spending the holidays with my family in Pittsburgh, so ...

Hi! Barry here. From Becky and I, thank you so much for supporting SuperButch. It means a lot.

This is a page where Becky and I both changed the other's work. :-)

In the top tier, the layout with each of them sticking a hand into the other's panel to do the cigarette choreography was a change I suggested to Becky's rough layout.

In the bottom tier, the script originally called for one panel, rather than two panels, and it was pretty boring. Becky though of livening up ...

This ink-wash was brought to you by the Into It Podcast, where the host Elle Collins brings in various experts to talk about why that movie/comic/TV show you love is so effin great! It is the perfect thing to listen to when you're tired and on a deadline, and they have a 2-hour episode about Casablanca.

Barry here again! (Boy, seems like I was just posting here yesterday....)

I want everyone to know that the hair on the back of Erwin's hand in panel 3 was totally my idea.  :-)

Panel 3 on this page - the boys in the foreground condescendingly talking about Lillian, and Lillian in the background glowering - is really one of my favorite panels in the comic. (Admittedly, I have a LOT of favorite panels). This is a "Barry panel," by which I mean that I suggested the layout for this pane...

SuperButch at Geek Girl Con!

Hi, folks! Barry here. I just wanted to share a couple of photos from Geek Girl Con with you. Above you can see me and Becky at our table, with the three (3!) issues of SuperButch. (this is the first time we've had issue three on sale).

It's so amazing to be seated at a table and to have SuperButch readers come up to us to let us know how much they've enjoyed the comic. Or readers who picked up issue one from us at Geek Girl Con last year, and are excited to learn that there are two new issues...

Issue 3 is here!

It's always exciting to hold a printed issue for the first time, even if it's just a "test copy" for finding typos and layout issues. :)

Issue 3 will debut this weekend at GeekGirlCon--Please stop by table 630 and say hi!
