Merry Christmas !

I would have loved to wrap up the year with a big update — something bold, something with real punch. Unfortunately, I’m still missing a bit of time before I can share news about the major projects. Things have clearly slowed down lately, but at least I’ve found a good balance in my life, and that’s what really matters for the long-term sustainability of these projects.

In the meantime, I’d like to share a small project that may not look like much, but on my rig it genuinely changed my experience. It’s quick to make, inexpensive, and very simple: two plastic plates clamping a USB touchpad, four screws to assemble the plates, and one or two M8 bolts to mount it to the chassis!

It’s free for Pro and Elite contributors (next post), and it should help you wait until the release of the Competition Control Box firmware v1.7 🙂

Happy holidays to everyone! 🎄

SRT Gearbox : eclutch update

The automatic eClutch calibration caused more problems than it solved, so I’ve added a manual calibration procedure directly integrated into the main firmware!
No more flashing a different code, no need to open the Serial Monitor or type any commands.

Here’s how it works (once the new firmware is flashed):

  • Engage 3rd gear, press the lever into reverse, and plug in the gearbox → you are now in calibration mode!

  • Return to neutral, then shift to 3rd or 4th gear to decrease or increase the locked position.

  • Press the reverse switch to test the locked position.

  • Engage 1st gear to save the calibration and return to normal mode.

The firmware has been tested with PCB v1.3 (and newer) — this is Firmware RC5.
For PCB v1.2, I’ve updated the firmware (version RC2b) but haven’t been able to test it yet.

For reference, the automatic calibration still exists: engage 4th gear, press the reverse switch, and plug in the gearbox to activate it — but I haven’t reworked that feature yet.

That’s it! I hope this makes your life easier — and there are more improvements on the way.

As usual, the firmwares are available here:

SRT Gearbox : August Update and news

This month, it’s a minor update, which doesn’t really reflect the mountain of work completed over the summer.
The update boils down to:

  • No Turn fix: the upper bearing lip (highlighted in blue on the image) had been missing since the last update. If your gearbox is already printed, you can replace this lip with an M5 washer.

  • Seq holder RHD: a small piece of plastic was sticking out.

  • Body2 get rid of a feature that was canceled below the carriage

  • Major cleanup work on my side to remove duplicate functions, fix errors, and completely reorganize the source files in order to… archive this project.

Yes, indeed, we’re reaching the end of the road for the V10. The 3D part is finalized. There are still a few improvements to make on the firmware, but the project has finally reached maturity. That doesn’t really show in this update, but cleaning up all the files takes a huge amount of time—and it’s a necessity for the future.

I can already hear some saying that the end of V10 means the beginning of V11. Not really. There are too many ongoing projects right now to start developing a V11, and I don’t yet have enough ideas to justify one. Well… I might have a lead… but that’s something we’ll have to discuss together.

Meanwhile, I’ve mainly made progress on two projects:

  • Competition Control Box: added support for the 6th actuator, and a complete code overhaul to allow configuring the control box directly through the Arduino IDE serial monitor. Basically, we’ll be able to communicate with the box just like with the driver:

    • Send P to display the parameters menu (set max travel, margins, connected motors)

    • Send F to display the functions menu (calibrate, test, etc.)

    • Send D to display all saved parameters

It might sound a bit abstract, but the code is structured so that at every step, the user is guided with clear instructions on what each command does.

  • GT Tensioner: I’m continuing the first driver tests. At first glance, the P1 will still remain more refined (more responsive/accurate/silent). I hope the GT V4 will be ready by December.

As usual, the 3D files are available here for PRO contributors:

SRT Gearbox : March update!

Basically, I thought it would be a small update...

...

Not at all...

Come on, let's stick to it with a nice clean log that no one will say boooouuuuu it's not clear

The main subject of this update is the sequential. We keep the idea of the previous update: a single switch, and a longer stroke. On the other hand, we change the switch, we need these roller switches which are bigger (and are therefore more tolerant to printing deviations):

https://amzn.to/4hfz1eg

(if you place an order on the store, I can slip you one... )

I'll see next week to modify the shopping list on the Industry&CNC side.

So, new Body2, new Seq Holder. By the way, I cleared a little space for the tracks on the carriage... just in case... But it's not necessary to modify it. And new Slider and Slider cover. The tracks remain the same. I also added stops on the slider to prevent us from going too far in sequential mod. I do not guarantee that it is perfect but as it is I find that the sequential has never progressed so much!

By the way, on Body2, there is a very small correction: visibly on my gearbox, the M5x50 of Turn was touching a little...

Then on the Eclutch side: I corrected the shopping list: the din7991 M3x10 is useless... and I added a diagram with where which screw goes.

And I took the opportunity to initiate what must be initiated: several behaviors for the eclutch. Well for the moment it is basic:

C1: we press the clutch to unlock the box.

C2: release the accel to unlock the box

C3: the box is only blocked in neutral and we act on the clutch to release it.

If some want to work on more advanced behaviors, they can share them in comments on the site!

On the Body1 side, I raised the reverse gear screw a little so as not to have to twist the screw... too much. There are many differences from one assembly to another... I will see in the future if it is necessary to raise it even more.

For information, the solution to resolve the latency problem will be presented soon.

SRT Gearbox : January update!

Here we are in 2025 and the 4th monthly update of the SRT V10 is online!

As you probably know if you follow me on Facebook or Insta, the second tiny driver has arrived in the family. I would like to tell you that it is getting harder and harder to work. It's true.... at the same time it's been like that for so long... The almost good news is that I am starting to have a functional workshop. I say almost because the work in the basement is no longer progressing and the workshop is in the office that I should have shared with my wife... Well she is on maternity leave, I have a reprieve!

Many of you are complaining about the quality of the current assembly video... Sorry but for the moment I have neither the conditions nor the time to do something better. The schedule seems to be clearing up for the next few weeks... I think that at the end of February at the latest I will shoot a new video. In the meantime, of course, I answer all the questions in the Patreon help room on Discord.

Okay, let's get to it:

This month I'm offering you an update that might mark a turning point! Maybe. In fact, I'm leaving the previous version online for the moment.

This is an update of the sequential mode to make the race longer.

How? By using Hall sensors to capture the gear change. So we only use a single mechanical switch that is there to detect whether or not to switch to h mode.

On paper, it only has advantages.

Oh, and for the moment there is only one seq track. If that satisfies everyone, we'll offer variants.

Concretely, we need to change body2, slider, slider cover, seq holder, seq track.

The other good news is that you can basically test the update by changing only slider, slider cover and seq track.

To perform the full update or just test with these three parts, I invite you to read the article that details the procedure:

https://lebois-racing.com/how-to-apply-the-january-update-for-srt-v10/

I also fixed the RHD slider where there was a missing hole for the december update. You just have to re-download the previous update.

SRT Gearbox : Décember update!

Here’s a new batch of fixes and optimizations for the final month of 2024!

Another very busy month... maybe too busy... As you know, we had to temporarily pause the store to reorganize. So, Max and I are both handling separate projects at the same time—Max is preparing his new workshop for processing orders, and I’m setting up a showroom and a space to test prototypes.

Still, that hasn’t stopped us from refining our beloved V10. Let’s get into it!

Updates:

  • No Turn update: The No Turn had a minor weakness with the fastening of the upper bearing screw. I made some room on body2 to add more material.

The new body2 is mandatory for the updated No Turn. This new body2 also fixes the misalignment of the SRT logo with the servo mount, which also needs to be reprinted.

  • Seq Locker: The Seq Locker is now identical in RHD and standard versions.

  • Radial Joint Locker design: The design has been updated to enable CNC machining, but unfortunately, I haven’t had time to order the aluminum parts yet. Body1 remains unchanged.

  • Slider update: The slider now includes a screw to make contact with the switches in sequential mode. Some users had to slightly bend the switches or use tape to ensure proper contact. The screw eliminates these DIY fixes and allows for precise adjustment of the contact point, making the sequential mode more or less responsive.

The screw is an M3x8 ISO7380, which can be taken from the PCB for now until I update the BOM with Industry&CNC.

  • Updated STEP files: The STEP files for the complete gearbox have also been updated.

That’s it for this year! Other changes are still in development, and I’m also working on resolving the latency issues reported by some users.

SRT Gearbox: November update!

That's it, I moved! Well for the moment it's the construction site... I thought the workshop would be operational quickly, I realize that it's quite the opposite! So in the meantime I received permission from my wife to spread out a little everywhere in the house, developments are resuming. What a pleasure to bring together again under the same roof the simulator, the machines and the CAD workstation!!!

However, I "lost" a lot of time, and I propose for this November update half of what I had planned...

1) Crank Fix

I noticed that the crank was slightly oversized compared to the SHF12 that we mount on it. Result: by forcing a little, the crank could come to touch the body. This is corrected.

I took the opportunity to optimize the 3D and reduce the number of supports needed.

Front crank, Rear Crank and Preload are therefore modified and remain compatible with the rest

2) Modifications of the 3Ds to come

A large part of the work that I did not have time to finalize impacts the body. In addition to minor fixes, I am working with the aim of simplifying the 3Ds, or at least making them achievable in CNC to prepare the future PRO version.

Indeed, I realized that the gap between the DIY version and a version that can be produced in CNC aluminum is far too big (even by mixing CNC and 3D printing). So rather than starting from scratch for the PRO and spending a fortune on prototyping, I will try to offer CNC versions of some parts currently printed in order to evolve smoothly towards the PRO.

Besides, I am regularly asked if it is possible to produce the current box in CNC. Answer: no. And it's not just a question of budget: in 3D printing, we use an additive manufacturing process that allows very complex shapes, or at least that are not achievable in subtractive... it's like asking a fish to walk. Not possible.

Therefore for the PRO version, the challenge is to keep the DIY features while bringing CNC where it is necessary...

3) Modification of the calibration code

The eclutch calibration code has been enriched. In addition to the first semi-automatic part, there is now a second manual part: we use the sequential switches to increase or decrease the blocking value, and the reverse switch to move from the blocked to unlocked position.

Therefore we refine the calibration in a few seconds, and this should solve the automatic calibrations that are not satisfactory.

Now see you in December for the next update, with perhaps the first CNC parts!!!

SRT Gearbox : October Update !

The first gearboxes are assembled, and the first feedback is very positive. However, you have reported some problems that this update fixes.

1. New slider

The biggest problem encountered concerns the tracks: they ultimately do not stay in place in the slider… the tolerances being too variable from one printer to another, the current solution cannot be retained.

Many of you have requested the return of a retaining screw. This solution does not really delight me for several reasons:

  • it requires modifying the shopping list and therefore the screw kit offered by Industry&CNC

  • it involves the use of a tool to change the tracks

  • it is not necessarily durable: the thread in the slider can tire

  • it makes the tracks more delicate to print.

So I opted for another solution: the end of the slider (called slider cover) comes to secure the tracks, and it is then the nut at the end of the main axis which comes to block everything. No tool, no wear.

At the same time I still added small grooves on the tracks and the slider in order to keep them in place at least for the time of the change. These grooves can be sanded if necessary if it does not fit.

It is therefore necessary to reprint the slider and the tracks.

2. Modified Seq Locker

You also found that Seq Locker could come into contact with Body1. Indeed it is flush and I can imagine that with some printers it touches frankly. Material was removed to be sure that it does not touch.

The rest of the parts do not need to be reprinted.

3. Seq Holder: orientation issue

I have been informed of broken stops on Seq Holder. It is absolutely necessary to print this part in the correct orientation to avoid breakage. The orientation in the first uploads was not correct. This is now corrected.

The goal for next month is to rework the eclutch calibration code. You have brought back incorrect rotation directions. For my part, I have rechecked and the direction is correct. In any case, I will add the possibility to modify the rotation direction easily. I will also add a clearer debug.

There were many uploads in the first few days to correct obvious omissions and documentation errors. From now on, updates will be clearly documented.

The updated files are available for download on the usual page : https://lebois-racing.com/exclusive-files-for-pro-and-elite-patreons/

The V10: when?

Bad news: I'm off on vacation soon... yes, how awful... Well, we'll console ourselves by remembering that the V9 was designed while I was on vacation, proof that it's not a sandy beach that's likely to put the brakes on developments.

Here's where we stand:

1) All the principles have been validated for some time. The gearbox is reliable, and adjustments are made at the margins to optimize assembly and printing.

2) I've already started shooting the assembly videos. Compared to the V9, the V10 is so easy to assemble that it shows in the videos: they're much shorter and easier to shoot. I've already shot over 50% of the videos.

3) The Industry&CNC kit arrives next week, so my colleague Max will receive it and check it. It contains the critical elements (axes, pcb...) but also a good part of the screws and bolts. Then I'll place another order for an even more complete kit.

4) Documentation: most of the documentation is already in place. Once again, since everything is simpler on this box, it's quicker too.

5) Video presentation: this is the biggest missing element...

So when? I'll be back from vacation around August 20. So launch soon after.
I really wanted to launch this project before I left, but on reflection, I'm convinced I need to take this time to get off on the right foot!
And once again, I'm planning to get on with a lot of projects during this “vacation”!

NB: The shop remains open throughout this period, with Max at the helm once again! There are regularly new items to discover: https://www.etsy.com/fr/shop/LeboisRacing

HSS mod canceled

Further to the previous survey, I hereby announce the cancellation of the HSS mod. The documentation will soon disappear from the site.

Please contact me on Etsy to request a refund for the V1 HSS PCB.

I'm taking this opportunity to destock the new PCBs that will no longer be used:

https://www.etsy.com/fr/listing/1737587527/pcb-boite-de-vitesse-srt

7€ instead of 15€.

They include a dedicated socket for the eClutch, see photo.

In parallel, I've just uploaded RC14 code that fixes a bug in button plate feature 4 (invert).

Still available at the same place: https://lebois-racing.com/exclusive-firmwares-for-pro-and-elite-patreons/

Finally, later this week I'll be posting a fix for the Joystick mod's 3D files, as well as two new PCB covers!

View Post

Should the HSS mod be cancelled?

As you're probably aware, the HSS mod was quickly found to have a fault when it was released over two months ago: the gears don't shift fast enough, if at all.

So for over two months now, I've been multiplying prototypes to remedy the problem. As my tests have progressed, I've gained a better understanding of the problem, and I've come to the following conclusions:

1) the magnet's detection zone is very large, even with a small magnet.

2) although the detection zone is large, the magnet still has to pass in front of the sensor for it to be detected.

As a result, the sensors have to be moved a long way from the neutral position, and the lever travel becomes very long.

I don't have an exact measurement to give, but having compared it today with the version with switch, I much prefer the latter, which remains efficient. The version with the hall sensor requires a lot of travel, and to be able to shift gears in succession, you have to return to the middle position, making downshifts really slow.

So that's where I'm at with development. You've all been very patient up to now, and I must say a big thank you to the incredible community you form. Out of respect for the community, we must now decide:
Do we scrap this mod for good?

If yes, of course I'll refund everyone who bought V1, and we'll talk no more about it.

If not, I can offer the current version, which requires a long run. It still has the merit of bringing a white Led inside the box, and everyone loves Leds.

MOD HSS: news from the front line

Time passes at a frightening speed. One day, you launch a mod and a piece of shit appears. We tell ourselves it's just a question of adjustment.

And two months later, it's still not fixed. I received the latest version of the PCB two weeks ago. I must have tested a dozen sliders with various magnet configurations.

It's better, but still not perfect.

So here it is, for those who are wondering: I'm going to order a new PCB with hall sensors a bit further away, hoping it'll be good this time...

RC 13 firmware for the SRT gearbox: the code of maturity

Maturity! A big word indeed!

The V9.1 gearbox is getting old. The community has grown, and so have I. I've been able to observe which mods were used, which were usable, which were unusable.

When I recently reworked the code to make it lighter, I became aware of a few things:

1) Some mods are too complex to be used, like the pedal mod with ADS1105...

2) Some parts of the code are no longer of interest, like the SmartSequential mod I developed for PCars2.

3) The arduino we're using is too slow to handle many mods (especially pedals, where speed becomes important).

4) The arduino has too little memory to handle many mods.

5) The arduino is too inaccurate to use certain mods. For example, 10-bit precision on the pedals is just about right...

So here's the RC13, stripped of bits of code and useless features. Gone are the SmartSequential and the ADS1105 pedals. The code is lighter and faster. Gone too are the functions for increasing or decreasing volume, which are not compatible with the pedals (I hope to be able to correct this).

So I think this code meets users' needs much better, and sorts out what's useful and what's not. With hindsight, I realize that many features were too ambitious for this "small" processor.

As usual, the code is available on the download page:

V2 ? Let's calm down right away: it's mainly additional files:

End of HSS V1.0

Ok, so I've worked hard those last days trying to fix the issue mentioned earlier. At this point, it seems clear to me that the magnet should be as close as possible to the sensor, and as small as possible.

I took it as an opportunity to work again on the sequential behavior that deserves a better treatment, and those tests helped me to understand what we need to do to make it great.

It meant to upgrade the design of the carriage, the slider, and the sequential track. So please try them together.

Recent tests with a 4x2mm magnets with the pcb close to the slider gave good results. I have attached the files required if you want to test this solution. The body2 is still the same, but there is a big spacer now, and you will need a longer m3 bolt, something like m3x16.

So now, this is the end of the V1.0. I am working on the v2.0 of the pcb with a layout adjustment : the screw and the header will be moved a bit a part so we can have the magnet as close as possible to the sensor. Body2 will also be updated to get rid of that ugly spacer.

It will take about one month (so better count on two) to get the pcb ready to ship. Everyone who ordered the V1.0 will received the V2.0 pcb for free once it's ready.
In the meantime, I will work on making that sequential mod feel great !

I also plan on designing a main pcb with an added 5V pin for the HSS and a dedicated header for the eclutch.

Mod HSS

I did many tests with 8mm and 6mm magnets but it wasn't conclusive.

I'll get 4mm magnets this week-end, I hope that it will fix things.

Houston we have a problem

It seems that I've sunned by overconfidence. As highlighted by FredyP on Discord (whom I thank), when shifting gears quickly, the HSS mod doesn't respond fast enough.

I've been looking into the problem since Saturday and hope to come up with a solution as quickly as possible. By modifying the code to gain speed, and adjusting the position of the magnet in relation to the PCB, we should be able to fix the problem.

I'll post a message here when the problem is solved. If the problem has to be solved by changing the PCB, I will of course exchange it free of charge.

I'm really sorry that the mod isn't perfectly fine. It's far from the level of quality I'm aiming for, and I'm doing my utmost to find a solution as soon as possible.

See you soon!
