Modern Responses to Traditional Pitfalls in Gender Affirming Behavioral Voice Modification [article!]

Hi everyone! Here is a special URL to give y'all access to my journal article recently published in the Clinics of Otolaryngology / Sciencedirect / Pubmed.

There are 3-4 significant typos // proof errors on this draft. They were noticed shortly after the article went live and are being addressed by the journal editors but they haven't fixed it yet. So if you see any embarrassing typos -- they embarrass me too! lol.

Rather than just waiting around for them to update the article,...

Confused by Voice Terminology? Let's Fix That!

Learning voice can be confusing because of the terminology, scary jargon, and multi-dimensionality but terms really do matter. This video discusses how to simplify terms and avoid common pitfalls of misunderstanding. I think this is possibly the most important video on my channel for reasons aforementioned but it also allows outdated videos on my channel to still exist sensibly amongst more recent works!

Vocal Fullness - Is Your Voice Too Buzzy or Too Hollow?

Vocal Fullness is a pedagogical concept developed by Clover and I to describe the relationship between resonance and weight. It's a perceived sense of "saturation" or "fullness". Understanding how to listen for Fullness is extremely useful. It allows you to determine if your general issue is resonance or sound production.

Fullness is the perceptual description of how vocal weight and size interact with each other. As weight and size change, the texture and density of the voice changes i...

Office Hours Excerpt #5: Developing Lower Pitched Feminine Voices with Amy

Hi everyone! This was a really instructional moment from my previous office hours session. In this clip, Amy expressed concern about how her voice "falls apart" at lower pitches. This problem is very common and typically happens due to a few different reasons. One very useful technical approach is to practice a dichotomy of lower feminine voices -- one being brassier and heavier while the other is lighter and breathier. These "modes" can act like extremes to then be blended more later on. Dev...

Office Hours Excerpt #4: Helping Bunny Find the Next Direction

This is an excerpt from helping a patron during our recent office hours event. In this clip, Bunny talks about her experience so far with voice feminization. She reports practicing resonance a lot but lacking direction now. We find she hasn't really tried to modify her pitch and weight all that much which opens up a new direction for her. When trying to elevate her pitch and alter sound production, we find some typical strain patterns which occur and we talk about where to go from there.

Office Hours Excerpt #3: How Weight, Pitch, and Loudness Interact and Myths About Twang with Jana

This is an excerpt from helping a patron during our recent office hours event. In this clip, Jana asks for help with "weight floors" -- which leads us into a discussion about how weight, pitch, and loudness interact. Further, we busted open some myths about what Twang and how tongue root position influences sound -- or doesnt!

Everyone from the recent office hours gave me consent to share these recordings so be on the lookout for more throughout this month!

Archive and Spreadsheet of Voice Resources

Hi everyone! One of my complaints for awhile has been how hard it is to sift through the resources on Patreon and Youtube. Luckily, a few members of the community -- Jodie and Zbar -- put together a simple and clear archive of different resources.

You can search by topics, by date, by YouTube vs Patreon, or by resource type! Everything has a description to allow you to parse the resources more quickly to find what you're seeking!! <3
