Here is a big collection of texture photos which I took in the early 2000s for use in the All Tomorrows project. To use them, all you have to do is play around with the "layer blend mode" settings in Photoshop. Converting them to black-and-white aIso works. Here is a secret portfolio of surreal art based on evolutionary principles - for your eyes only!
I painted a set of male and female "hexapod" creatures in different iterations, changing only subtle details each time.
The result was a neat spectrum of hexapod "species" - and an important lesson: painting or drawing the same thing over and over is a good method for deriving speculative critters.
