High Society (TLO Painting, Full-res)

Soon after their creation, owning thralls became a status symbol among the Savic aristocracy. Ever since, high society portraits have often depicted mages with their favourite thralls, among other luxury possessions.

During the revolution many of these paintings were destroyed (along with their owners homes).

Hair and Fur Brushes (2)

A pack of more useful brushes for hair and fur. I've seen some great hair brushes for Procreate etc, especially curly hair, and wanted something similar on photoshop. I tried to include a few types of curls, PS's system is a bit less friendly for this type of thing but I think it's still an improvement on painting them 100% by hand.

Monster Base

Happy Holidays everyone! This year I give you the gift of monsters.

This is a PSD base so can be used in Photoshop or imported to other programs that support PSD. If you use Procreate you might have issues opening it since I think there's a layer limit in that program. As a work-around you can open it in other software, choose the layers you want, delete all the others and save.

There's very few restrictions on this, basically just don't remove the signature and don't redistribute...

The Lake -- TLO Painting

I'm thinking about doing more of these quick paintings, they're just really good for being in a flow state and still adding to the Loyal Ones world.

There are some mildly mutated trees in the background here. During the Poison War most of the South Front was tainted to varying degrees by mutagenic aurum-based weapons. I'm planning to do another painting in more heavily influenced areas, but for this I wanted the focus to be on atmosphere and the thrall character.

I might still work on this one, I'm thinking about it. His little pet is actually highly intelligent, and engineered for some light sneaking around and spying. Like a bird it has very exact phonetic memory and can play back conversations it has overheard.

As far as anyone knows it's just a little puppy guy, though.

Finally finished this puppy! I haven't actually counted all the features in this base yet but there's Several.

Natural Media Brushes

Heavily textured natural feeling brushes, as requested by Potato ^^ There's not much to say about how to use these, except just kind of let them do their thing at first. You can always clean up later but laying down lots of texture at the start can be really nice.

Water Brushes

Painting water is hard! Suffer slightly less with these.

Like all such brushes you'll still need to do some actual work. I recommend starting with dark base, then using the wave brushes on a separate layer above. Lock the opacity of the waves and paint a gradient on them that's lighter at the top. The reason this looks correct has to do with the Fresnel effect, I'm pretty sure (see diagram).

After that maybe do some little details and extra highlights using the other included brus...

New Sketch Brushes

Back to practical basics this time, I've been coming up with more sketch brushes recently and thought I'd share the various pencil-type brushes I've been making. Emphasis was on functional, with some fun texture but not so much that it's hard to control. Then I drew some eyes because at heart I'm 13.

Clothing Detail Brushes

Anyone else sick of all these damn clothes on all these characters? Well, I am.

This is a collection of a lot of things I get annoyed by, such as stitching and buckles. Also includes a few utility circles of different band thickness (can be used for rings, eyelets, fasteners, etc) and some fabric textures.

Hair n Fur Brushes (Booster Pack!)

Just a bit of fluff for this month's brushes... hahhhh.

Hope you guys enjoy! The best way to use most of these is:

1. Brush your shape in using a dark/shadow colour

2. Lock the opacity of the shape

3. Gradually brush in lighter and more saturated versions of your hair/fur colour on top, 

4. At the end, add some bright flyaway strands on a separate layer, like they're catching the light on top of the bulk of the hair.

Forest Detail Brushes

I love ferns and stuff but not painting them - too many leaflets, too much pain. Instead of torturing myself I made some more detailed brushes for dense foliage. Make it feel like deep forest without 10 hours of painting individual leaves.

I recommend using these by 

1. Doing a first pass using the colour in the leaf shadows.

2. Lock the opacity of your leaves

3. Brush over them again with the same brush, this time with a brighter colour.

4. Get a more norma...

Detail painting brushes

This minipack has some new brushes I've been using for fine details, including one that's great for whiskers and stray hairs catching the light. 

Easiest way to use the stray hair brush:

1. on a new layer make long sweeping strokes

2. make a layer mask

3. using a soft eraser, fade parts of the hairs out of visibility.

Cloud and Fog brush set

Brushes designed to build up banks of cloud, good for getting a quick start on backgrounds. Most of us have a couple of these type of brushes hanging around already, but they're usually extracted from photos and look out of place in our paintings. Industrial Junk Brush Minipack

I like junk in the background! But painting all those little scaffold greebles is a pain , and I was getting tired of the few good brushes I'd found for this. So here's a little booster pack for you.

Best used for far-distance details, since they don't really hold up to close scrutiny. But they will give a bit of verisimilitude to city and industrial skylines.
