Hahahah this might have been one of the messiest resin pours we've done yet! (p.s. this image is a gif, hopefully it works for y'all). Definitely have some worries about how things will look once we remove them from the mold because... of course lots went wrong during the pour :P - Evan

We didn't really look at the sizes of the molds for our next video (resin gingerbread houses). I chose one (red), Katelyn chose the other (clear). Hers was a bit smaller than we thought hahaha. Hey, it's just more efficient right? - Evan

The Rainbow Bench!

Hey guys! Wanted to share final shots from Friday's video. When you google "rainbow bench" they all have a very kids-furniture vibe and we wanted something that was a little more subtle, where it looked like rainbow light was spilling over a wood bench. I think we did it!

Rainbow Bench tests + KoolAid is SOUR

So we already kinda spilled the beans to you guys, but before we filmed the alcohol ink project we actually filmed a rainbow bench! This one is going up this Friday. We'll share the finished shots soon, but one interesting part (really, like half the video) is doing various tests to see how different dyes worked to color wood. We tried a couple meant for wood (Unicorn Spit, a gel stain, and FolkArt Ultra Dye, an acrylic stain) and those both worked pretty well. Runner ups were alcohol ink and...

Out of order

Hi!! 😊👋 Hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving!! Wanted to give y'all a little behind the scenes update on things.

We had to film our projects out of order recently because of a 10 day sponsor review request so we now have a fully finished secret project 🤣. We'll probably keep the Patreon posts after this more in line with our video schedule (so the IKEA hacks, then this bench) but you all will know the secret truth 🤫

3 things from IKEA we're dousing in Alcohol (Ink)

And then setting on fire (maybe) hahaha. But for real, setting alcohol ink on fire (when on a fire safe material like glass) is an interesting technique. 

So we're heading to IKEA right now and are going to be on the lookout for 3 things we can improve with a little color via alcohol ink. Thinking maybe candles, a glass frame, and one other thing that will hopefully catch our eye. Do you guys have any hopes/ideas for what we should get?

Black Hole Table Aftershow

Black Hole Infinity Table

So this week isn't actually a buffer week - whoops! Good thing the edit for the black hole table is done! So in this project, we used the same subtly colored white pigments we did on the treadmill desk (the "interference white" pearlex powders) but they were WAY more visible against a black background! Heh heh heh whoops. We worked it out in the end though I think.

Treadmill Gaming Desk Aftershow (update)

Gaming Treadmills are done!

It's hard to capture them in a photo with all the moving lights and such, but they turned out super cool. And the resin top that we poured over the clear acrylic worked out so good.

Evan's setting things on fire again

So we used some really thick 3/4 inch acrylic for this week's project because we want the top to be clear (we're gonna have LEDs inside and we want the light to show through (the entire top of this piece is acrylic, we just still had the protective cover on it)

So to finish the edges and make them clear, we flame polished them.

I realized that I didn't really share much context with my post yesterday lol. We are making art for our next project! But it's going to get messy because we're going to be slinging paint around on a pendulum lol. Hence the fancy suits and why we had to plastic wrap our whole garage :P -Evan

But I swear we're not laying down on the job! We are still in crunch mode this week and next because our sponsors (Vistaprint and Arris) need reviews 2 weeks before launch so it's GO GO GO over here  😋

Dang y'all, we've learned A LOT on this project :D It's great to push ourselves to "recreate" something but it's also giving us so many ideas for how we could use techniques like this to make our own designs!!
