So let's test out the new Fat Man AI. Some combat testing in the middle of Lexington, involving Gunners, Raiders, Synths, Super Mutants, and Deathclaws. And Frank, the Super Mutant who just wanted adventure.. and maybe someone to love him for who he was.

As I mentioned in my previous preview post, I've been working on missiles this week. We also have a bunch of new optimizations (including a completely refactored main combat target scanner), some fixes for sleeping NPCs and BOS, and some changes to how PANPC suppression works. So let's get into it.
As usual, you can get 2.02 on the GreslinGames Discord, in the PANPC #releases-latest chan...

Thought y'all might like to see what I'm working on this week in PANPC.
Optimizations continue, long overdue housecleaning. Four years of old code stacked up in heavy layers of nonsense, waiting for me to finally come in with a shovel and drag it out to the curb. Well, that curb is now and that shovel smells like missile exhaust.
Missile tactics in PANPC have been a long time coming, but they're finally here. I still have a few fixes to make (as shown in ...

So a couple of days ago, I shipped the new PANPC 2.0.1 release on the GreslinGames Discord. GreslinGames members with Citizen role access can get it now on the incremental PANPC release channel (#releases-latest).
This is mainly an optimization release, part of an ongoing effort to clean house, strip out old legacy code, and free up script resources. Thi...

As I mentioned in yesterday's newsletter, sometime in the next week or two I plan to decommission the GreslinGames support forums. They were always intended as a temporary post-Nexus measure for hosting content, and it's time to move on to better things.
I am now developing more comprehensive documentation for all of my mods, available in Google Docs documents. While these documents are still under development, and so are probably incomplete and even slightly inaccurate in p...

Over the course of the last half year or so, I've continually returned to thoughts about creative gatekeeping online: where it works, where it doesn't, and at what point it just becomes annoying and counterproductive.
This is probably true in every creative community. You always have the established, entrenched names who have territories to defend against the upstarts and new voices.
Systems get put into place. Allies get recruited. Walled communities go up. Artificial metrics are...

Hey, all. Since releasing PANPC 2.0 in late December, GreslinGames has been growing at pretty decent clip and it's been fun to watch. There's stuff happening, and I thought you'd like to know about it.
New Documentation!
The GreslinGames Forums will likely be discontinued at some point this month. It was a temporary measure following my departure from Nexus in July, not something that I planned to keep long term. I'm n...

A new version (v1.5) of my Fallout 4 mod, Companion Heal Thyself, is now available on the GreslinGames Discord. You can find it in the CHT #releases channel, along with a link to the new Companion Heal Thyself user's manual.
If you're using PACE, you don't need to download CHT. PACE already includes everything in Companion Heal Thyself. CHT is available...

I'm happy to report that version 2.0 of my Fallout 4 mod PANPC is finally done and out, and is publicly available on my Discord server. This version supersedes 1.991, which was my final Nexus release. You can get the full changelog for 2.0 in the PANPC #releases channel.
2.0 is a substantial upgrade from 1.991. Some of the major changes include:
More PACE upgrades. Most of the PANPC syst...

If there's one thing I really like, it's a good fan-made PANPC/PACE video. To tell the truth, I probably wouldn't still be developing these mods after all this time if not for the great gameplay vids that I get to see.
Thanks to Greslin Games member neznamka, we have a wonderful combat test video of the new PACE 1.04 and its custom companion support features. Watch Heather, Darlene, Charlotte, Nate, Madison, and pretty much all your favorite customs go to war with PACE!

PACE 1.042 has been released and is available on the Greslin Games Discord.
Dogmeat had an outdated version of the new activation code in 1.04, which in turn screwed up some other things. Everything has been updated and should be working well now.
Also, the new West Tek goggle feature was bugged and should now be fixed.
(Note: v1.041 just had the Dogmeat fix and has been taken down, in favor of v...

Ever since I released the first version of PANPC, back in early 2018, one of the most commonly requested features I've received has been enhanced AI support for custom companions. And my answer has always been some version of "someday, maybe, but I wouldn't hold your breath for it". It was tricky, to say the very least.
Well, if you have been holding your breath, you can enjoy fresh air again.
As of the upcoming version 1.04 of PACE (Pack Attack Companion Edi...

Wow, we've had an August so far in GreslinGames.
In recent days, I've been working hard just to keep up. The population of the GG Discord has more than doubled as it has become the primary hosting home of PANPC, PACE, and all my other mods. We've added new sections, taken up new topics, gotten new collaborative projects underway, and just are just generally welcoming all the newcomers.

I believe that when you put anything creative out into the world - art, code, music, writing, no matter what it is - you are not really engaging the present. The popularity, the trends, the various metrics of success or failure.. those are all kind of irrelevant in the bigger picture. All that will soon be gone, consigned to dust and vanity and flattery and random data bits on aging hard drives. Old news.
Creating something new means talking to the future, reaching to someone out there ...

I know that things have been quiet here on Patreon for the last few weeks, but a lot has been happening in the world of PANPC and PACE.
PACE launched on Nexus on 5/21, and I was pleasantly surprised at the reception: we hit Hot Mods almost right away and ended spending several days at #1. Then we hit Mod of the Month and took the #4 slot for May 2021.
I had hopes for PACE, but you never really know until you get it out there. I've been modding since 2009, in Fallout 3,...

Sorry for not getting any new videos out lately. Between the demands of real life, coding time, coding fatigue, general distractions and the like, I mostly haven't had the time to do a proper shoot/review/edit/rewatch/upload session. It's not you, it's me.
Progress is being made, however. PACE 1.0 -dev10 is available on the GreslinGames Discord, and I'd say that we're currently at around 90-95% of Nexus...

My fourth attempt at a -dev9 video, and it seems to have worked this time. Some discussion about the progress towards a Nexus 1.0 release, as well as a look at where shotgun AI is at the moment and what I still hope to do with it.
I still have to do an edit pass on the long version of this video, but should have it up for Patreon supporters in the next day or two.

No video this week. PACE -dev9 (code available to Patreon supporters on my Discord, will release to open channel next week) is going to be a significant AI update and it's not quite ready for public review yet. It's mostly working well and represents a significant upgrade to PACE - especially for shotguns - but it's not fully baked and frosted yet.
At this point I doubt I'll be adding any new features to PACE before a Nexus 1.0 release. Now it's just testing, testing, ...

The video for -dev8 is going to be a bit late this week. My plan right now is to record and edit it on Thursday and put it up on Friday morning.
My plan - yes, God laughs while man plans - my plan was to work on AI finetuning this week. Instead, I ended doing major surgery to the movement control infrastructure, adding a radial distance positioning feature that I can use now to direct an NPC to any position, in any direction, at a specific angle relative to the direction the...

This week I got a lot done towards filling out PACE for a (hopefully soon) Nexus 1.0 release. All vanilla base game companions are now supported, including Codworth and Curie (in a new "bot mode"), and a new "Get The Hell Over Here" hotkey allows you to directly summon companions to your position if you've lost track of them.
Moving forward, I plan for these videos to be less "feature showcase" and more "let's do real testing and talk about where we're at". So expect ...

This week, I've been filling out the general functionality of PACE, with an eye towards what still needs to be done before a Nexus 1.0 release. As of -dev7, all base game (non-DLC) companions are now supported, as well as basic multiple companion functionality. There is also now a "Get The Hell Over Here" hotkey, some very basic bot support (Codsworth and Curie), and better PANPC integration.
Starting with this video, I want to shift away from "feature showcase"-style gamep...

Sorry for being a bit late to post this publicly - it's been a week. Anyway, this update is a Special After School Episode: the introduction and adventures of Dogmeat, everyone's favorite Fallout 4 canine companion.
This update adds Dogmeat to PACE, and in this video I take a close look at Dogmeat's vanilla FO4 behavior and show how PACE is going to change it.

Hour-long -dev6 test update and gameplay footage. With -dev6, we introduce multiple companion compatibility, as well as an often-requested upgrade for the Commonwealth's favorite canine, Dogmeat.
(Please forgive the framerate jankiness of this week's video. It came out that way from OBS, I discovered it after editing, and didn't have the time to reshoot the whole thing.)

So over the last week, PACE has undergone a number of surgical interventions. Bugfixes mostly, as well as a number of subsystem rewrites to deal with issues that only appear with longer NPC lifespans (most PANPC enemies are dead long before these items become issues, but companions are a different story).
PACE -dev6 adds basic combat AI support for Dogmeat, based on AI systems used by dog packs in PANPC. Still pretty alpha, but PACE Dogmeat is a lot more evasive, much...

A new update on the progress of PACE. The AI clearly still needs work, but we're getting much closer to a fully playable companion, and you can start to see how this mod will play when I'm done.
