Mustang pt.1

Hey guys.

First video is up, not very exciting as it doesn't involve any rendering or material creations, only modification of the Mustang model I bought. Yet it's still important for the end result and I want to leave nothing out.

The first modeling parts are mostly real time and narrated, but then it's just more of the same so I sped it up. I'm pretty rusty when it comes to modelling, my first 5+ years of 3D was only modelling and mainly cars, but I haven't done that in a...

Update

Thank you for your suggestions. I did actually look for a decent model of an old Volvo 244, but the only ones I could find sucked. Then one of you sent me a link to a beautiful Mustang, and since it's one of my all-time favorite cars, I decided to go with it. However I don't like the original fastback version, so I'm rebuilding it to a Shelby version.

I've built a new front lip, intercooler, hood, side cover, tail, exhaust pipes, and the original Shelby Cobra rims.

All is reco...

Finally!

Hi there,

If you're following me on social media i assume you have seen these images already. The creation of these images was not recorded since it was basically just a test. However the plan i had was similar.

I'll start recording this video series asap, that will cover:

* Making a car paint shader from scratch

* Materializing a whole car (I kind of skipped that in my previous series)

* Setting up a realistic all-CGI exterior scene using models, sca...

Fuck!

Hey guys.

As you've hopefully noticed, I unpaused Patreon for May. I've had a plan of what to upload this month and I've been pretty excited about it as it would be a video series that is a little different from what has been here previously, with specific focus on exterior rendering.

However I've faced some problems I never anticipated. I've been scanning assets for this scene, 3d models and outdoor textures that I wanted to use, but for the most important texture I've been fac...

Experimental - Pavement Tiles

Another experimental scan I might as well share. A bit better quality than the previous share, no blurry patches and a fully usable texture. Seamless in all directions thanks to Martin @Texture.Supply.

Experimental scan - Stone wall

This is an experimental scan I did the other day. The quality is decent but not more. For example, it contains blurry patches in the albedo. But it is indeed useful, so I thought it'd be a good share here on Patreon. It is seamless (in X axis only), at least.

Also note that the displacement as 16-bit TIF/PNG looks like shit (at least in fstorm). Normally I can use 16 bit displacements with no problem but for some reason in this case I only got it look properly using 32bit EXR. So,...

An update

Hey fellas.

Hope you're all doing well and I want to thank you dearly for your patience.

So I've kept my Patreon paused for a few months. Not because I've been sick or anything, but because I had to dedicate my time to StageGlass. It all got a bit overwhelming. Now I'm however not working with StageGlass anymore and I can happily dedicate my time to my own projects again. Not going to get into details but the short version is that as a tech start-up, it's natural that the c...

Covid-19

At last it's my turn to face my destiny. I got Covid. There are still two weeks left of this month but I just wanted to let you know that if I haven't been able to produce more worthy content to justify this month, I'll pause the patreon pledges as usual.

Stay safe people!

Control things with sliders

So I've wanted to figure this shit out for a long time. Never really did however, and the built in sliders in 3Ds Max are just worthless.

Enough was enough and I set out to finally crack this nut and as it turns out, it's really damn easy. To save you some time, here's the most straight forward and condensed tutorial I've ever done. Took me way beyond an hour to figure out, and I'm teaching it to you in 3,5 minutes.

Cheers, people, you're all wonderful!

The Christmas Elf + Timelapse

So, here's some background story to this small clip.

Just days before Christmas my son started to lose faith in Santa and the Christmas magic. We've had an elf visiting us every December since he was a baby and every night he will find mischief around our house.

My son was on to us and started suspecting me for arranging everything each night when he's asleep.

So in a desperate attempt to have him hold on to his belief in the magic of Christmas for at least...

Part one of two videos showing what I did to make this guy. Only thing missing at this stage is rigging, then I can get into the actual film making. Haven't solved that issue yet.

Scene files

I get a bunch of requests of re-upploading scene files. I want to remind every new member to read the tier description, it clearly says that scene files won't be available forever, meaning they are somewhat exclusive for "current" Patrons at that time, and not grab-and-run content.

With that being said, yes all expired scene files will be re-uploaded this month.

Santas Helper - Model and animation

Hey hey! So as mentioned in the previous video I modeled this little christmas elf/pixie/whatever. We have this little helper (a doll) visting us in December each year and every night he's being naughty and horseplay's random things.

He's 9 years old and might be the last year he believes in santa, so to keep his belief up and keep the magic going as long as possible for him I thought I'd give him some "real proof" of that it's all real. So I'll set up a "hidden camera" in our living ...

A brief introduction to rigging, mocap and Motion Builder

Motion Capture: Rokoko Vs XSens

My take on the Rokoko VS XSens Motion capture suit discussion.   TL;DR:   Both suits are great for different reasons. It's like in most other cases: You get what you pay for.  Rokoko won't ruin your economy but will also not give you a trouble free solution. XSens will wreak havoc on your bank account, but you'll shed a tear of joy when you see the results.

StageGlass And Patreon

Sorry for the bad sound quality. Didn't pay attention to the mic level, again.

Here's some news about Stageglass, my current adventure, and how that affects Patreon.

TL;DR: The content on this Patreon channel will change a bit, but I've been saying that for ages so no real news under the sun there. I'm also thinking about how I can redesign the teirs on Patreon as I don't like how it's currently set up.

Would love your thoughts on this.

Substance Smart Material - Old Bronze

A first timer here on Patreon: Substance Materials. Why? Because I rarely use Substance. But that will hopefully change now, as I'm really seeing the true benefits of Substance Painter for my future projects.

And I'll just assume that you know what movie this bull comes from. Modeled in 3Ds Max for some cinematic testing, will share!

Making of a Texture Supply Promo video

Honestly, the outcome of this was a bit of a failure. Even though the render itself looks cool, the camera movement didn't really work for this purpose and it also made it hard to see the movement of the shadow. I'll have to rethink this one, but that doesn't mean that the recorded video is any worse.

Hope it's useful for someone.

PS #1: Don't forget to keep an eye on Martin's page "Texture Supply" as he's coming out with some new stuff going forward!

I concider this scan a faliure as it doesn't reach my preferred quality level but I also think it's a waste of a decent model since it arguably looks pretty good at a distance.
